The PSP was a success. It sold a ton of units, it had a lot of third-party support, a lot of straight up PS2 ports which was insane at the time. It just wasn't nearly as successful as the DS was.
Sony misunderstood the market. What people wanted and got from the DS was family friendly games that were designed to be good on the go, make use of duel screens and make something unique and interesting with their list of top quality IPs. Sony made something that ran old console games well enough on a tiny screen. If I got home playing a PSP god of war, in an ideal world I'd want to dock it like a switch and play it on my TV. If you're playing professor Layton, brain training, Pokémon, Mario or Zelda games you wanted them on that hardware, with the touchscreen available. TLDR, I think it's crazy to say that the DS had no right to eclipse the PSP. Sales figures and legacy don't lie. It was fun and revolutionary and knew it's audience.
The Vita was a blast. I still have mine. I like the portal, but I hate how all these companies use cheap analog joysticks. I wish that the Portal connectivity was better. I constantly drop connection. I would love to have PS release a Steam Deck like handheld.
The Vita had some great games honestly. I thought Killzone Mercenary was excellent and it was my favorite way to play Need for Speed Most Wanted. Mad jealous you still have one. I had two and they both broke down
The PSP was how I discovered god of war as a kid, my dad got me a red PSP that had kratos’ face on the back and it came with the first 2 games and the psp only one, I was much to young to be playing them but now God of War is my favorite game franchise ever
I JUST got a Steam Deck because my PS5 bit the dust and I didn’t wanna pay the fee to have it replaced by Sony right now. I gotta say. I love it. Also. If anyone sees this who came and supported my channel yesterday, I appreciate you. ❤.
My PS5 died too, but because it wasn’t our fault and because we bought it from Amazon, they actually replaced it for free. So worth trying to get it replaced if you got it from Amazon or some place like that. I know the Sony replacement fee is really big
I would LOVE another PlayStation handheld. Before details of the Portal were announced I was hoping that thing was gonna be a PS4 game-targeting local play device, so something that can play PS5 stuff, granted at probably 1080p but that’s dandy sounds super good.
The PS Vita was a lovely bit of tech. All the modern "handhelds" are way too big, bulky and heavy to make much sense as a true on the go portable device. They're more for playing in bed or on the couch or going on a trip.
@carlossalazar3325 nah i don't care about that, if I wanna play AAA games I got a ps5, I play games on my Gameboy Advanced they're crappy but they have their own personality, make a AAA game specificly for a handheld device
@@ocoom8328 yea kind of but also games and all that on top of it, Nintendo switch is something I would get for the handheld if I was in the market for one, do wanna see more extradinary games that are handheld specific tho, not just something I could play on my ps5
Nobody cares steam deck. Without switch steam deck would not even exist. The reason why valve is not releasing steam deck 2, they are waiting for Switch 2 so they can steal their ideas again.
That little extra thing that you want, Sony could add to the portable PS5, is being fully backward compatible with PS Vita. Of course, that would mean adding a touch pad in the back of the system, a Vita game slot, and a Vita memory card slot. There's no way they would ever add a UMD drive for the PSP games, even the Vita is pushing quite a bit, but if they would do that, I would pay some serious cash for the device,
i was always a playstation gamer never a big pc gamer but bruh i wanted to play all games not just playstation and screw the price of ps5 so i bought myself a z1 extreme and docked up its soooo amazing
4k 120hz HDR TV's and what does gaming pitch us? Handhelds. So now I can fully enjoy GTA VI with phone screen sized pixels while debating if the person beside me on the train just farted.
With my PlayStation library being 99 percent physical games. I doubt I'll get a new PS handheld (I loved the PSP and Vita). I would rather buy a Steam Deck 2 instead of a new PS handheld. PS games come to PC anyway and I already have my steam library that I can play on the Steam Deck.
It's not the same for Sony these days. Virtually all games come to Steam now, including all MS games and most of PlayStation games. So the Steam Deck would be a better value for the content you can play on it. Not only that, Valve is rumored to be working on Half-Life universe games. Those would be only playable on the Steam Deck, or other PC handhelds.
Dope watch as always! Really hoping they go all in on the handheld. Coz the Portal is a cool device but it seemed like such a halfway solution for portable gaming. So makes so much sense for them to just release a full on standalone device again that people can take on the go with them like the PS Vita and PSP era. So they need not necessarily make specific game cartridges for them but at least give people native downloads to their digital libraries so you can go and play on the go without having to constantly be on a strong internet connection
I think it makes a lot of sense that everyone is now jumping onboard the portable gaming trend. Handhelds are no longer inferior to home consoles. You can play full-fledged, triple-A level experiences on a handheld device, rather than having to rely on developers creating separate experiences built around the limitations of hardware, as was the case in the days of older Nintendo handhelds like the DS and Gameboy series. I feel that the Steam Deck and other PC handhelds played a big role in this shift. The Nintendo Switch kickstarted the initial appeal of being able to play console games on-the-go, and companies like Valve raised the bar by injecting their systems with hardware that could be competitive with a PS5 or Series X. And I think it’s just a very smart business idea to have this kind of alternative. A handheld variant is cheaper, for both the manufacturer and the customer buying it, and provides an experience that cannot otherwise be achieved with a home console. I firmly believe that handhelds are gonna become an essential product for the gaming industry in the near future. Not just for a select few companies that do them, but for every company looking to sell hardware or software.
Ive been using my steamdeck so much lately. I love it. PlayStation Portal is on my xmas list and i cant wait for it. Now that it plays off of wifi rather than Bluetooth, i can play it at work on my lunch breaks haha. I wonder what a new handheld from them would look like? I bet theyre going an all digital route. Like the Steamdeck.
See while i did enjoy my PSP and PSVita, there was way too much focus on 3rd party games and independent companies. While yes, giving them spotlight is incredibly commendable, it's that wise as far as keeping up with entertainment demands. So if they do make another, they need to come out with bangers.
lol, I just watched all of detroiters with my GF, we loved it so much. I was actually suprised that she got into it as much as I did. I am with you on being excited about the handhelds, my girl and I played MANY games coop on the vita. the crazy part is that we could play without having 2 accounts, both systems were mine, and when you played coop they just used bluetooth, like old school nintendo system link (with no cables)
If this thing is able to have access to the psn and play current gen games it’ll be a hit. It would be a handheld that can play every game in Sonys library.
I still play with my Vita here and there and I love its oled screen. I’m prob gonna buy the new Xbox and PlayStation handhelds. I can’t wait to see how each company goes about it
Speaking of PSP - there's a new game coming from the makers of Patapon - Ratatan! I loved my PSP so much. Does anyone remember Pursuit Force? Play the crap out of Syphon Filter, Killzone, GoW, Socom Fireteam Bravo and so many more... Freaking Patapon and LocoRoco were so much fun
If they can take the Portal architecture and beef it up to play direct digital downloads with a battery life of at least 6 hours I will probably end up buying at least two. Gamer household.
Hey Jake! What is your opinion on the new update and the beta cloud streaming service for the PlayStation Portal? I have seen a lot of positive reactions and I was curious about your point of view.
I am one of the few who bought a ps vita and love it. I still play the vita sometimes and have a switch and a handheld pc. Sony is known not to support there handhelds. If they make another portable i hope it is just a portable that plays ps5 games natively portably. that would be the only way they would actually support it.
I would love to be able to just download a game from it's source and just have that game's icon that I launch the game from. That should have been the norm.
I almost exclusively play on handhelds, and tbh I’d love to explore playstation’s wealth of exclusives. I hope this device will let me use actual PS5 discs… but that might be a stretch lmao
I would probably buy a new Sony handheld but the thing is I feel like they would just get rid of the disc drive and only allow you to play your digital games, which would be really disappointing.
Hey Jake, thanks for doing more than your part to make the internet, and especially the gaming space, a bit lighter, exciting, and positive. Grateful that you take the time to share your content with the world!
Idk I wouldn’t mind a Sony handheld but after getting the steam deck I think I just prefer that a lot more because of how simple but customizable it is with the plug ins like decky and emudeck but I’m very curious about the Sony and Xbox handhelds
Just one thing, if the this next portable Playstation doesn't have exclusives is not gonna fly. If you want to play PS5 games you already have Steam deck
Question… I’m a console player myself. But I love “older” games. Are you able to get like umm.. say splinter cell (first) , blast corps, stuff like that.. can you get those on a steam deck or just a steam account in general on pc?
Rather than a portable ps5 (which would be expensive), just make a portable ps4. It'll be able to play all 1300 ps4 games and could be priced at $399 or $299.
i was just looking for a handheld, thinking Lenovo legion go 1TB. i also hear they're in the works for the Go 2. i have a trip to the Philippines this Christmas. so like a 16+ hour flight.

ya can we all agree that we should take the EA launcher out back behind the tool shed and old yeller that thing lol

Sony has a incentive to make a digital only handheld, it gets people to buy games on the PS store and it keeps people in the PS ecosystem.

They can barely support 1 console with games. Adding a portable to their lineup would be sending it to die since that is Nintendo’s domain.
