Are handhelds back, I don't know? Do you owe me a pizza though is the real question?
ya can we all agree that we should take the EA launcher out back behind the tool shed and old yeller that thing lol
I am don’t usually impulsively buy things based off of UA-cam video sponsorships, but after doing separate research on the companies, I have become a fan of both Vessi and Bombas, and used your codes to get discounts. Vessis are my go to shoes now, and Bombas socks and slippers are my gaming footwear of choice. Now deciding on whether I deserve “retail therapy” to get a nice new floating pen. I play through games so slowly I don’t buy games very often, so I can siphon off a bit from my gaming budget. Right?
I need a play station handheld ASAP , so many ps games I'm not playing
Don't forget, Bethesda got rid of thier launcher and gave everyone free codes for their games on steam SEVERAL years ago. It was awesome.
The PSP was a success. It sold a ton of units, it had a lot of third-party support, a lot of straight up PS2 ports which was insane at the time. It just wasn't nearly as successful as the DS was.
Indeed. And I don't think the DS had any right to eclipse the PSP.
Sony misunderstood the market. What people wanted and got from the DS was family friendly games that were designed to be good on the go, make use of duel screens and make something unique and interesting with their list of top quality IPs.
Sony made something that ran old console games well enough on a tiny screen.
If I got home playing a PSP god of war, in an ideal world I'd want to dock it like a switch and play it on my TV. If you're playing professor Layton, brain training, Pokémon, Mario or Zelda games you wanted them on that hardware, with the touchscreen available.
TLDR, I think it's crazy to say that the DS had no right to eclipse the PSP. Sales figures and legacy don't lie. It was fun and revolutionary and knew it's audience.
I miss my PSP... some a-hole stole it. Had thousands of hours on homebrews and emulators lost. 😢
To be fair Nintendo dropped the DS, an updated DS, DS Lite, DS XL, 2DS, 2DS XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, and an updated 3DS XL as well as countless collectors editions just from the Zelda franchise. Easily one of my favorite handhelds ever, but literally every iteration I just listed counted as a DS sale, and they almost all had different prices. It’s like Nintendo saying the Switch sold 143 million units when in reality the Switch Lite is selling really well too, and it’s a completely different piece of hardware (although the performance is the same, you know what I mean)
@@paranoidandroid___1248 ds and 3ds are different consoles in different generations and their sales are reported separately. The DS and 3DS both separately blow the PSP and the Vita out the water.
This was at the same time Sony released a PS3, PS3 slim and PS3 even slimmerer on the market, different colour options, different bundles, Spider-Man editions, etc.
It's just a gaming thing. Maybe Nintendo do it way more than the other companies you're right but it's not some secret dodgy method to inflate numbers
Man...the PSP carried me through working out of town for years...movies and games, it was my everything when only having hotel TV to entertain me!!!
Well I could sure use more distractions while yano... waiting for a pizza that someone keeps promising me 👀
The PS Vita was a lovely bit of tech.
All the modern "handhelds" are way too big, bulky and heavy to make much sense as a true on the go portable device. They're more for playing in bed or on the couch or going on a trip.
The size is what allows them to be so powerful.
My first complaint about the switch was the size. It's too big to be a "portable" device. The lite is ok, but I much prefer the size of the vita. It fits in a pocket.
But I love my Rog Ally. It's not meant to be portable, it's like you said for the couch or in bed... or even docked with a mouse and keyboard.
I think of these handheld PCs as a different form of laptop, not a portable device like the vita or psp.
The market is split between portability and parents who want to watch Netflix or play their own games and not have their kids hog the main TV.
The best thing about the PSP and Vita was the fact developpers had to be creative to compensate for hardware limitations. Lot of those handheld games were tons of fun and had a different flavour because they were exploring original ideas. Would love to see that again!
The PSP was how I discovered god of war as a kid, my dad got me a red PSP that had kratos’ face on the back and it came with the first 2 games and the psp only one, I was much to young to be playing them but now God of War is my favorite game franchise ever
Honestly man, having a portable option to play any game from my PlayStation library is enough of a selling point for me.
Same
Hey Jake, thanks for doing more than your part to make the internet, and especially the gaming space, a bit lighter, exciting, and positive. Grateful that you take the time to share your content with the world!
I'm a Gen x gamer and I just bought a OneXplayer X1 AMD edition 11"handheld. I'm so pumped to get this handheld and start enjoying it. I have a pretty good gaming rig but I get a feeling I'm going to be using the handhelds a lot more often. Plus the big screen and helps with my 54-year-old eyes.
PC + handheld is the ultimate combo
nothing better
Pc and a ps5 in a handheld would be the ultimate device.
Main reason i love my steam deck so much
Nah. Pc is good for excel. Terrible for gaming. Pc gaming is ruining gaming.
@@hododod246 They can't make a single pc port that works smooth on ps5..
I listen to all this as a podcast while watering the plants. Thanks for those words. 🙌
I would LOVE another PlayStation handheld. Before details of the Portal were announced I was hoping that thing was gonna be a PS4 game-targeting local play device, so something that can play PS5 stuff, granted at probably 1080p but that’s dandy sounds super good.
I've been saying this for a while. The steam deck is the greatest thing to happen to video gaming in a long time. I had so glad I made the choice between that and a PS5 and I haven't gone back. I just hope the rest of gaming takes a look and realizes that this is the angle we should have been going the whole time
As far as another Sony handheld is concerned, I'm actually not that interested in it because I already have a steam deck. There aren't really any PlayStation exclusives that I care about and at this point they're known for Fidelity. That's what it seems like they've gone all into. Like I feel like if I get a Sony console I want it to be on the the big screen I'd rather them just keep doing what they've been doing and releasing their games on steam
You made the right choice between a Steam Deck and a PS5. I had a PS5 that I played a bit, and got a Steam Deck after the fact. Since buying a Deck, I've barely touched the PS5
1:47 psp is even better for its time
Handhelds are a win win win for everyone. Console and PC gamers can play on the go. Mobile gamers can enjoy actual games (lol). Devs gain access to the young generation. And lastly, it forces devs to optimize their games for slower hardware if they want access to that market. I, for one, welcome this change wholeheartedly.
Nonsense.
Killzone: Mercenary for PlayStation Vita blew my mind!!!
The PSP didn't fail. It sold 80 million units.
A pc and a beefy playstation handheld would be a heaven scenario
Just ordered my white Steamdeck 😏
Aren't they sold out?
@@Cujo5still available in North America for now.
I so love the look of that thing but I always thought that white gaming devices distracted from what's going on on the screen when it's darker. Having only the screen in front of me visible when I play at night is so cool and immersive.
Nintendo is so smart in so many ways.
Popolocrois on the PSP when I was a kid was a life-defining event for sure
Smart move would be to have an add on to the portal
I do miss the DS handheld days, but handheld devices today are just so crazy expensive
Expensive and can’t run many new AAA
@carlossalazar3325 nah i don't care about that, if I wanna play AAA games I got a ps5, I play games on my Gameboy Advanced they're crappy but they have their own personality, make a AAA game specificly for a handheld device
Steam Deck LCD and Switch are all reasonable honestly, especially when accounting the cost of a DS with inflation
@@ocoom8328 yea kind of but also games and all that on top of it, Nintendo switch is something I would get for the handheld if I was in the market for one, do wanna see more extradinary games that are handheld specific tho, not just something I could play on my ps5
Really not, if you account for inflation the Nintendo game boy advance in today's money would be like 220$, and the Gameboy was one of the cheapest handheld consoles of its time, so they've barely got more expensive
New psp . Xbox handheld . New deck . Asus , msi , lenovo an all the other chinese brands handhelds . switch 2 . Android phones getting powerful enough to run console games natively or emulate windows games .....
We are truly entering handhelds era
Best gaming machine I've owned is the steam deck and I go back to the zx spectrum (in the 80s 🇬🇧)
hell yeah. that's awesome
That little extra thing that you want, Sony could add to the portable PS5, is being fully backward compatible with PS Vita. Of course, that would mean adding a touch pad in the back of the system, a Vita game slot, and a Vita memory card slot. There's no way they would ever add a UMD drive for the PSP games, even the Vita is pushing quite a bit, but if they would do that, I would pay some serious cash for the device,
I don't even care if it's more powerful than a switch, only that it is smaller!
I have nothing but fond memories of the PSP. The vibes were immaculate, and you could watch movies on it.
The Vita was a blast. I still have mine. I like the portal, but I hate how all these companies use cheap analog joysticks. I wish that the Portal connectivity was better. I constantly drop connection. I would love to have PS release a Steam Deck like handheld.
The Vita had some great games honestly. I thought Killzone Mercenary was excellent and it was my favorite way to play Need for Speed Most Wanted. Mad jealous you still have one. I had two and they both broke down
As a detroiter, I always love when that show gets some love. Lol
The PSP was my first ever gaming device. Honestly, I would love a comeback.
I'm all for handhelds. Always have been :)
Sony will do fine if it runs console games… Sony fans will buy it. I don’t buy Sony myself but if Xbox made a handheld I’d be all over it.
The psp was revelatory for me - same as you, the web at my fingertips as a kid!! I had the Vita as well but was unimpressed with the game catalogue and sold it. The device itself was second to none and is still moded today for retro emulation. Now I play more on my Ally than my much more powerful desktop - handheld is the future and the future is now!
I want a "end of days" device. One where that doesn't need to be online, that if I bought the game I own it forever and can play it anytime
I think it makes a lot of sense that everyone is now jumping onboard the portable gaming trend. Handhelds are no longer inferior to home consoles. You can play full-fledged, triple-A level experiences on a handheld device, rather than having to rely on developers creating separate experiences built around the limitations of hardware, as was the case in the days of older Nintendo handhelds like the DS and Gameboy series.
I feel that the Steam Deck and other PC handhelds played a big role in this shift. The Nintendo Switch kickstarted the initial appeal of being able to play console games on-the-go, and companies like Valve raised the bar by injecting their systems with hardware that could be competitive with a PS5 or Series X.
And I think it’s just a very smart business idea to have this kind of alternative. A handheld variant is cheaper, for both the manufacturer and the customer buying it, and provides an experience that cannot otherwise be achieved with a home console.
I firmly believe that handhelds are gonna become an essential product for the gaming industry in the near future. Not just for a select few companies that do them, but for every company looking to sell hardware or software.
This is a delusional take. The switch was responsible for it all. You guys think we forgot when everyone was banging on the switch and said handheld gaming was dead and no one wanted it. Nah the switch birthed the SD and everything after it all, SD did nothing to penetrate the market with 4m sales and did nothing revolutionary than the Switch. I realize people never want to give Nintendo their flowers for anything.
Man, I just want to lay down on my couch and play games. Handhelds and consoles do this for me. The Switch has been the best.
Idk why I thought the thumbnail said “ ARE HANDJOBS BACK??” Like dude I was unaware that they ever left
ZJs are the next big thing.
@ ZJ’s?
@@mannybananny2259 If you have to ask, you can't afford it.
@@bargaintuesday812 that’s very interesting coming from someone with the name bargain lol
Still playing my Vita. Love it. Such a beautiful bit of kit. ❤
I literally bought a jailbroken PSP today for the nostalgic vibes. Handhelds are definitely back baby
I wonder how it work with those who use disks.
I'm primarily a PC gamer but just received my first (white) Steam deck a couple of days ago and I love it so far!
Great video, Jake. Feels like another good hang out chat. Also - have to admit those Novium pens are pretty damn cool.
Jake Mentioning the paid online passes for second hand games hit me hard. That was a long time ago man.
I hope you talk to your Goblin mask like I do
It’s great to have for air travel! I had the PSP and the PSP Go and the Vita.. all great for the time for airplane and or road trips when you don’t have to drive! The portal is nice for home use if you can’t have the TV because your wife or kids are using it, it’s a nice option but you can’t use it without proper internet connection.. I have a switch just for air travel, at home I hardly play it, home is PS5 pro time 🙂 stellar blade at the moment 💯🎣
2:35 psp wasn’t a fail, not even in the slightest. 10 years of support is better then many full-on consoles
1:53 😍 Psvita still My favorite handheld, thank you for showing it 😊
Game Console R36S really revolutioned the handheld scenary
if they make it they literally have to have every psp , vita , ps2 games sony we neeeed it
Looking into getting a steam deck now that i am working evenings... hoping itll let me play with friends
I would love to be able to just download a game from it's source and just have that game's icon that I launch the game from. That should have been the norm.
Hopefully Sony will release a PSP 2 soon because the Hybrid Handheld Gaming market is lacking a competitor to Nintendo. Even if the sales are not as good as the Nintendo Switch, it will put pressure on Nintendo to reduce the price of their Games or devices.
I love my Legion Go and don't know why it's never mentioned because it's a Swith on steroids and can pay basically anything that can be played on any handheld. It can play steam, xbox game pass, and emulate basically anything. The screen is bigger and the controllers are detachable and can be used as a console.
I must admit, I love my portal. With the browser fix a couple of months ago it feels like a pure handheld. With so many games requiring an Internet connection anyway I can't see them doing much more than the portal. Rumours in my opinion.
Speaking of PSP - there's a new game coming from the makers of Patapon - Ratatan! I loved my PSP so much. Does anyone remember Pursuit Force? Play the crap out of Syphon Filter, Killzone, GoW, Socom Fireteam Bravo and so many more... Freaking Patapon and LocoRoco were so much fun
I bought Patapon 1 & 2 a few days ago on my Vita
I still take my psp on plane rides with all the umd discs 😂😂
I think a Sony handheld that plays the existing library of games in the PlayStation ecosystem is a great! I have a sizeable library and a handheld to play those games would be great. I hope it’s simple and just works great. I’m not sure I want them to do anything “extra”, I’d prefer just a solid PlayStation handheld for my games library.
The Vita was probably the nicest handheld console I think has ever been made, with the Gameboy Advance SP in second place.
man, i almost stop gaming, then i tried the steam deck and boom, i bought the OLED and absolutely love it
Dope watch as always! Really hoping they go all in on the handheld. Coz the Portal is a cool device but it seemed like such a halfway solution for portable gaming. So makes so much sense for them to just release a full on standalone device again that people can take on the go with them like the PS Vita and PSP era. So they need not necessarily make specific game cartridges for them but at least give people native downloads to their digital libraries so you can go and play on the go without having to constantly be on a strong internet connection
Sony should use their IP's to make themed handheld at launch. Horizon-, Helldiver-, Astro-, anniversary-themed etc. we would empty our bank to get those instead just regular editions
Grabbed a Steam Deck OLED so I can have the best of playing games locally and Streaming my PS5 Pro/PC ✨
The Vita was so badass. Bummed it never got more releases.
Problem is will they charge for separate handheld versions of games you already own on PS5? The good thing with Steam deck is you don't have to buy the games you already own again
I want something like the vita and psp, a dedicated handheld with dedicated handheld games
I just got a steam deck and love it. Not only have games run soooo smooth. They are also graphicly insane! I wasn't expecting much difference from the switch OLED. However, the steam deck takes full advantage of its capabilities. My only complaint is that now the day I get my steam deck today.... vavle has everything on my wishlist on discount... like they knew.
We are so back
4:30 as far as I know, Sony will definitely add a little magic: proprietary charging connector or Sony memory cards 😔
Congratz to 400k subs!!
Really itching to get the portal even tho I have a steam deck! 30th anniversary collection is so nice looking 🔥
The Vita was really cool and while I personally have no need for a new handheld, I'd still be excited to see a new PlayStation one hit the market. I'd be extra excited if they throw in backwards compatibility with a bunch of Vita games or revive the Vita's PlayStore entirely, I think that would make it very interesting for a lot of players.
Ps vita is underrated it has capability but lack of support and exclusives killed it.
Dude, I would lose my mind if Sony released a real handheld again. Please please please! I still use and love both my PSPs and Vitas. I even still watch and collect UMD movies. American Psycho on UMD makes me chirp like a bird.
When they ask you where you from, you say Detroit City baby, and we’re getting back on our feet ❤😊
It would be great if they launch a new playstation portable console with a catalog of all their first party games ready to be played with the ps plus subscription or the option to use our digital owned games, that could be great.
It’d be sick if those hover pens did a dark souls edition. Imagine a coil sword pen with its dock being a bonfire?! Then you’d have me on those things.
I think an issue they might run into is value. They have to price it just right in between a ps5 and a portal now.
I still have a PSP, Vita and Portal. None of them get a ton of use anymore though.
I remember my dad getting the PSP on launch day 😜
i had the steam deck oled but upgraded to the ally x and i LOVE this thing
If the Ubisoft launcher went away, I'd buy Prince of Persia the Lost Crown.
That’s why I’m saying. It’s objectively a good game and even though I hate Ubisoft I can’t fault them on the results, but equally I can’t buy a game that needs their crappy software to launch, especially when this is a company with a known precedence of removing games, save data and stealing information. I’d have to be insane to see all that and still spend so much on the game. Why they even thought that launcher thing was a good idea is beyond me smh.
@@brooklyn9291 I tried playing the demo on console to hopefully buy it there and they locked the demo with a Ubisoft login. You couldn't play the demo more than once on PS4. They lost my business at that point. Who locks a single player demo on console behind PC DRM?! How?! I wanted to give you money...Damn it...
Nice T-shirt! Instantly took me back 25 (!!!) years!
I can only imagine how expensive this could be, if it's playing, downloaded PS5 games & not streaming them. It definitely needs an OLED Screen.
Jake, I need a map of what's in your cabinet. That all looks like member berries. PLZ!
4:49 this is the correct portable game
Are we arriving to a time when we will have like 4-5 different handhelds in every household?)
Deck
Switch (2)
Atari
PS something
And something else we didn’t know we want
I’m cool with Sony doing a hand held so long as they start releasing some games. The PS5 hasn’t had a lot come out lately, the VR set definitely hasn’t had many new releases, so if you’re gonna do a portable you’re gonna have to release some games I’m interested in before I fork over the cash.
I loved my Vita! That Uncharted game was under rated! It had some duds but I loved being able to play MLB the Show everywhere😂
If this thing is able to have access to the psn and play current gen games it’ll be a hit. It would be a handheld that can play every game in Sonys library.
That's the most Metal Gear-ass shirt I've ever seen
I’m glad handhelds are coming back & I’m transitioning to handheld gaming 💯. Hell with the PC master race… I got me the white Steam Deck Oled, gonna get me the Nintendo Switch 2 & PlayStation’s next portable console.
ALL HAIL THE PORTABLE GAMING CONSOLE RACE!! (PC is not longer the master race in gaming genre)
I watched Detroiters when it came out. Thought even then it was underrated. Great show.
I still play with my Vita here and there and I love its oled screen. I’m prob gonna buy the new Xbox and PlayStation handhelds. I can’t wait to see how each company goes about it
honestly if sony made a new handheld it should run ps1, ps2 and ps3 games. that would sell like crazy. having all the sly cooper games or jak and dexter on the go would be insane
Ive been using my steamdeck so much lately. I love it. PlayStation Portal is on my xmas list and i cant wait for it. Now that it plays off of wifi rather than Bluetooth, i can play it at work on my lunch breaks haha. I wonder what a new handheld from them would look like? I bet theyre going an all digital route. Like the Steamdeck.
I love my Vita. Wish games still came out on it
I know its a thing now but I’ll never get used to hearing people reporting gaming news from bloomberg
Detroiters is an all time favorite of mine. Really wish we could have gotten just 1 or 2 more seasons
Hope its like a replacement for the smaller version consoles like if they do a ps6 home console n handheld console when they come out
They need one that can compete or outcompete the Rog x which is the bar right now in terms of performance
