    It is criminal that the Dunlop Trailmax Mission isn't on this list. Best tire iv ever used by far. Good 50/50 performance for light to medium off-road. Amazing High speed performance, iv tested to 110mph. Incredible grip in corners, I now regularly drag peg through corners on my DR650. They also last a crazy long time, I rode from Virginia to Colorado to Texas then back to Virginia and I still had 60% or more of my tread left on my rear. Currently they are sitting at 7200 miles on them, front looks to be at roughly 65% and the rear is at roughly 40%. I fully expect to get 10,000 miles out of this rear tire and probably 17,000 out of this front. Absolutely incredible, I usually burn through 50/50 tires in 3k miles. Or less.

      Love the Michelin powers. I ran two sets of the power 3 on my zx6r years ago doing street and track. 7k miles and 6+ track days on the second set, including some rain riding. For people who actually do hard and fast riding, the power 5s are amazing. I always run that on the front and swap between the power 5s and road 5s for the rear; the power 5 just sticks to everything perfectly, while the road 5 slides a bit when you're really pushing the limits.
      I can get about 10k miles from a power 5 rear and 15k from a road 5 rear. Both on a GSXS750 I flog daily.

    I always recommend people spend as much as they can afford on tires. Yeah it's annoying, but unless you're burning through a set every couple weeks: it's WAY cheaper than replacing your bike, when you inevitably lowside because you bought cheap tires.

    • @LTVoyager
      @LTVoyager 2 роки тому +4

      Which cheap tires would those be? Maybe some really cheap Chinese brands, but I’ve never found a tire that would not hold traction up until the hard parts hit on a good road surface. Most tires are WAY more capable than most riders. Spending $300 for a tire that exceeds your capability by a factor of 2 is simply poor economics.

    • @wizardmoto
      @wizardmoto 2 роки тому +5

      @@LTVoyager Disagree. That perspective exists solely from fairweather seasonal riders, which I am not.
      Take a set of Shinkos past 20° lean in the rain, if you don't lay it down you should definitely enlist in MotoGP because that's impressive as hell; whereas my RoadTec 01s can comfortably be at 40° lean in rain without getting super squirrelly and I'm far from a pro-level rider.
      That's TWICE the performance, or %50 less likely to wreck; absolutely worth an extra hundred bucks every couple months to have that peace of mind in my opinion, unless you only ride in straight lines on sunny days.

    • @LTVoyager
      @LTVoyager 2 роки тому

      @@wizardmoto I’ve never run Shinko tires. I run Bridgestone and Metzeler on my LT and have run Michelin and Dunlop on past bikes. I am not sure what %20 and %40 lean is as most measure lean in degrees.

    • @wizardmoto
      @wizardmoto 2 роки тому

      @@LTVoyager Then you aren't worried about cheap brands, I also run Metzler RoadTec 01s and I wouldn't define them as cheap by any definition. I'm talking about Shinkos or LingLongs, cheap brittle rubber that barely passes DOT spec.
      My phone corrected degrees to percentage for some reason, thanks for pointing it out I'll edit them.

    • @LTVoyager
      @LTVoyager 2 роки тому +3

      @@wizardmoto You said “spend as much as they can afford” on tires. I think that is crazy. I can afford any tire I want, but putting a sticky sport tire on my touring bike is wasted money. My bike can’t hit lean angles that need the sticky compound and such tires last less than 5,000 miles on a heavy touring bike. I know, I had to buy one years ago for my Voyager XII and I could almost watch it wear each day. Harder compound touring tires often cost the same or less and last twice as long and have more than enough capability for the lean angles of my bike. Very few people need to “spend as much as they can afford” on tires. That just makes no sense.

    I just put the Michelin Road 6 on my ZX6R, so far I am impressed. The ride is great, they have handled very well on curvy canyon type roads. They are also comfortable on country type back roads. I don't ride on the track, so I had my suspension softened to handle the more bumpy surface of country roads. People were like why didn't you get a cruiser, well I don't care for them. I enjoy hitting the curves and riding hard, and I just love the feel of the ZX6R. This has been my dream bike for years, and was finally able to afford one. I'm 51 and still young at heart, so to be able to pay off the house and raise a family was also a dream realized. Now my wife and I both ride, she has a CanAm Ryker Rally Edition, so it's really great that we both get to enjoy riding together. All being said, I am looking forward to the tread life that you have mentioned from the Road 5 series, hopefully the 6 is an improvement.

    I can't speak on the Road 5s, but my last RoadSmart 3s (15K miles) outlasted my part Pilot Road 4s. Ergo, I'm willing to give the RS4s a shot before accepting the latest Michelin the universal answer to street and freeway for the 17 inch set.

    I finished a pair of Road 5’s on my R 1200 GSA. I got 15k+ miles on them, but I took it way too far and they are squared off, so I started slipping in the corners. I took it to this condition only because I had to finish my 4k miles ride from Mexico City to New York.
    Half of the time on those tires I was riding with my wife and really heavy packed. I wanted to but the same Road 5’s, but was not able to find the rear tire. Seems like a lot of tires are not available right now.

    I used to be a Michelin guy, only rode my bikes with PR5s or power 5s. Once my local garage were out of any of those they recommended the roadtec 01, man i never looked back, switched all the bikes to metzelers, all but the little TNT, which runs on sl60s for mild offroad.
    Bear in mind i ride all year round, winter to winter commuting to work. From bellow -4°c up to 35°c, from sunny days to thunderstorms. Never felt as safe with any other tire, heat up pretty fast even in very cold conditions and rain, and i use them on occasional track days. Can't recommend them enough.

      Had the roadtec 01 as well. Fantastic tire for cold and wet conditions, very confidence inspiring. The handling isn't that great though, probably due to the squared off rear.

      Yeah, that's the only complaint I had with my last set, about 7k kms in, and the rear tire really squares off and the handling goes downhill. I see it as a trade off for safety, as mileage isn't my priority. For mileage i'd opt for the PR5s

    I have the Power5's (the sportier softer version of the Road5's) and I couldn't be happier. They are super predictable on their grip, they heta up fairly quickly, and they offer a lot of confidence on the side of the tire. They are not super great on the wet, and by 8.000km I need to start thinking about changing the rear... Gotta say, that these tires have really talked to me as a sportier rider with the occasional squid coming up when it's safe to do so 😂😂

    What about the Motoz Rallz or ADV ! or the GoldenTyre GT723 ( Both better than a Old tech TCK80 ) I will admit they are a true 50/50 tyre , BUT I definitely believe the GoldenTyre GT723 also is - it even performs well on wet asphalt. Paired with a front “ old faithful M21 Rallycross- also good 👍 on wet Asphalt ( the front will give you 6-7 miles of 50/50 riding and the rear around 5000miles . And they are excellent off road as well.

    I’ve only had one complaint with the Road 5s. The tread pattern just happens to line up with a certain lean angle, giving squishy feedback at times. Looks like the 6s solve that. Once I burn through three Power 5s by the end of this year I’ll be picking up the 6s

    • @kaimelis
      @kaimelis 2 роки тому +2

      damn, i thought that was something else. just a few hours ago i experimented acceleration at certain, not that much of a lean angle and always felt a little jiggle, nothing alarming but weird. this just might be it. i too will wait to get the 6s

    • @YSPDJapan
      @YSPDJapan 2 роки тому +1

      Yep. If you're really hard on the throttle you'll get some wiggle out of the rear. But the rear also slides slightly when you're pushing it in cold conditions or at it's limit.
      Luckily the sliding is controlled and smooth, but it's obvious that tire is made for safe touring riding as a priority.

    I don't understand the choice of the TKC80 for dual sport.
    I tried a set of TKC80's on my DR-Z400. They were fine on the street and fine in the dirt. They were done after about 4000 miles.
    I tried a set of MotoZ Tractionator Desert H/T tires. They were fine on the street, great in the dirt, and lasted over 5000 miles.
    I followed the Desert H/T's with a set of Tractionator Adventure tires. Good on the street, very good in the dirt, and lasted about 6000 miles.
    I now have an Africa Twin with a set of Tractionator Rallz tires. Still good on the street and very good in the dirt. The rear tire has about 10,000 miles on it and appears to have about 4000 to 6000 left. The front tire was retired with about 7000 miles on it, so two front tires for every rear. The other Tractionator tires had about the same wear front and rear.
    Of course, your results may vary. I live in Western Washington, and I spend a lot of time riding on wet roads. I expect that extends the range of the tires. I've had no problem with any of these tires in the rain, largely because I don't drag foot pegs on wet roads. Hell, I don't drag foot pegs on dry roads.
    Unless you can get a really good price on a set of TKC80's, and you don't mind mounting them more often, I can see no reason to choose them over any MotoZ tire.

    For the past 4 years I've used Diablo Rosso III's and I love them. Between my stock tires and 2 sets of Rosso III's, they've averaged about 6,000 miles. I don't know if that's normal, but I've been reading the Michelin Road 6's are reaching 7-8k+. I'm anxious to get into the Rosso IV or Corsa's, but I also like the idea of the Michelin's because they're so durable and ya don't sacrifice performance.
    Anyway, I'm guessing the Corsa's weren't on the market when you made this video. I'm curious what you guys have to say about those. From what FortNine says, they're one of the best on the market, but for longevity's sake, he recommends Michelin. A set of those is going to cost me near 500 bucks.
    Doing my due diligence. Thanks for the insight.

    I'm between Continental TKC 70 and Dunlop trailmax Mission.
    I need it to be as perfect grip as it can be on the road but when i need to go down the dirt road to the beach (i love in Greece), i need it to not tear apart from the sharp rocks !

    But how about the life of them both?
