Wow, really? The audio on this video makes much of the speaking indiscernible. The other videos have been pretty good, but the host's (first presenter) delivery on this one is fast and sporadic, to the point I can't understand half of what he was saying. Added to that is weak audio recording/post (the recording needed some serious EQ) And... well, I've been an audio producer for network productions for 37 years, so I'm not just blowing smoke. It was just so funny to see this comment on the episode with the weakest audio of them all. :) Otherwise, they are generally well done, for sure.

Looking at that Maybach... All too often, we reduce the engine to a mere abstraction of horsepower, reliability and fuel consumption, and little else. But seeing it first hand, its components, the workmanship involved, how much effort and precision it took to manufacture... it is really something.

    • @deepbludreams

the Maybach engines where over complicated to a large degree, it's why they where plagued with all their long term durability problems.

In what aspects where overcomplicated to a large degree?

    • @deepbludreams
      @deepbludreams 5 років тому +1

@@VRichardsn Perhaps i said that wrong, It's more so that every vehicle the 230 ever was in had serious problem due to over stressing said engine, the many oil pumps is a weird complication that would be solved by just using a bigger primary one and little oddball stuff like that.
The problems the Maybach had where from being over stressed, overheating, excessive wear due to long high RPM sessions, plus fixing it is not as simple as you'd think, German tanks are not entirely interchangeable in the parts department, minor fitting was common on these.
To be fair, germany did not have the time to develop a really good tank engine like the USSR and USA did, the GAA and V-2 respectively, both dead simple and powerful for their size and weight.

There was a time, way back before the internet and before UA-cam was dreamed of where I thought my love of AFVs was a bit strange and unique, now I see that there are so many folks all over the world who not only share my interest but have been bitten by the bug far worse than me. As an older fella I'm just very grateful that I live in a time where I can visit the Tank Museum from the comfort of my home in little old New Zealand at the bottom of the world and get these amazing tours of the workshops etc hosted by these wonderful guys explaining what they are doing and why, it's just such an enjoyable treat especially as I've got less mobile with age. I believe the Lynx was a Canadian recon vehicle, also used by the Dutch, not by the Americans, even though it was made in the USA

Correct. Made in USA by FMC Corporation manufacturers of the M-113 and other U.S. military vehicles.

USA never adopted it, not sure why he said that, the US was a huge manufacture of armored vehicles back in the day.

I can't get over the fact your "Enemy Tank" has "Dissident" written on it. That's some top class humour right there.

Another excellent episode thanks! Interesting to see the Churchill has a "fly by fluid" throttle control! Great to see another Maybach engine coming together, I've always been surprised at how much power this engine made, considering that it wasn't supercharged, and had a low compression to allow it to run on very low octane fuel.
I had a question about the range wrecks, were any of them shot at with DU rounds? Is this something that you have to watch for? Looking forward to the next episode.

Saladin. The best looking AFV ever made? I think so - but others will have their own favourites. Thank you for another fascinating video. Wonderful.

If you are wondering about the HL230 it will be for one of the KTs or for Jagdtiger. Jundging from the parts lying around.

Would love to work on these tanks. Much more interesting than fixing modern diesel truck's.

Love the Q&A. could you do a stand alone Q&A, say a bit with the workshop guys, a bit with the Museum and Conservation guys. Maybe even a video about the archives and the technical documents (blueprints, manuals etc)maybe even the cultural collections (the original Armoured corp herald, trench art, etc). Love all of the videos produced by the team. Special event stuff (100 years of Cambrai) are just as interesting as the workshop and restoration videos. Sorry I'm unlikely to be able to get there soon, I'm Australian, so these are as good as being there.

You guys should get two guys to cut the bolts on either side of the churchill’s suspension simultaneously or maybe get some army guys with small explosives and just let that spring launch the suspension wheel out across a field
Cool video btw, fun to be kept up to date
