In this video, I give you a "How do you handle stress" and pressure answer
This job interview question has many forms and variations:
How do you handle stress?
How well do you handle stress?
How do you handle stress and pressure?
How well do you handle stress and pressure?
How well do you handle conflict?
How do you handle conflict?
How do you handle pressure at work?
How well do you handle pressure at work?
It also relates to occupational stress, work related stress, managing stress, a stress management interview, a how do you handle stress interview question, and a how do you handle conflict interview question.
I discuss how this is a trick question / bad question, and that you shouldn’t say anything bad about yourself. The Alternative answer, “I do these things to manage stress” is problematic because now they’re picturing you getting stressed out often or excessively. When you answer this question, the more you talk about getting stressed, the more they will think you will get stressed in the job if they hire you.
In my experience, being on both sides of interviews, using this best answer to "How Do You Handle Stress? (with this example and sample) can avoid disasters and pitfalls during job interviews such as awkward silences. If they want an example of how you dealt with the stress, just say something like "I went for my evening workout and that took care of any stress". Period. No more dwelling on this question.
I put this question in the larger context and explain what recruiters are looking for.
- A good first impression.
- No concerns you will not be able to handle stress.
- No concerns you will be stressed out excessively.
- No concerns you get stressed out easily.
- You do not take up too much time on this questions so you can get back to making a case why they should select you.

Your videos are helpful, thank you so much. Could you please do a video on the question:
How would you handle a conflict at work?
Yes, very helpful. Especially when you explained regarding the time spent on negativity answers and behavioural answers should be different, (and that it's ok to spend longer on the latter version of the stress question).
@@PerfectTag That would be a good one
This is helpful.. thanks! My problem during interviews is to not know when to stop talking. I always feel like I need to fill the silence haha 😄
This is great advice. With most questions the candidate needs to elaborate a bit, but in this case - just stop talking ! Excellent, thanks
Interviewer: How do you handle stress?
Me: (PANICS)
Bill: "...And then stop talking." That's hilariously funny because it's true 😂
this is brilliant. all your videos are genuinely informative and useful.
Awesome content (as usual), thank you!
Really liking the gold tie as well... I might have to get one for myself
I just love Bill! meaningful, to the point, and funny!
Dear Bill - great video! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video. Glad I subscribed
LOL i thought about the answer 10 seconds before you said it. ive learned that if you work on your own business, stress becomes mostly a factor specially in the beginning. After a while you really start to handle it really well and theres really nothing much to say further👌😄
Great advice as always!
An issue that I encountered that I didn't know how to handle was: how do you sell yourself when the interviewer doesn't give you a chance to speak? The worst interview I ever had was when the interviewer basically talked the entire time. There were maybe 3 questions at the beginning and the rest of the time was them talking. I was rejected for "not having enough experience" despite working in the field for 10 years.
Haha! That's awesome
Yeah I don't appreciate when interviewers talk about their experience working in the same field as the job you applied for and they only asked you a few common behavioural questions and then there will be a time they ask you an odd question like where are you from and the type of outfit you are wearing which left me speechless.
@@gtone339 😅welcome to my world
It's so good to subscribe. I get to become the first person to watch and comment and get this big man's response. :)
You won the race!!!!!
Love it!
Brilliant!
Awesome guy!!!
Recently I was asked a question at a job interview. The interviewer said that everyone gets stressed now and again and everyone has limits. She asked, how do I know that you are stressed? How do you act when you are stressed? What is a good answer for this question?
You're 100% right that they want to know the dirt on you.
I have an Interview on Monday. So watching all your videos. Thank you for doing that :-)
Did u ever got the job?
Awsome!
Usually through dividing the force by the surface area.
Made me laugh…. What an excellent answer. I look forward to the following video.
I wonder if these advices work for all different cultures 🤔 bec they look like real GEMS 💎💎
Awesome!
Can you do videos on questions regarding time management and task management
Thanks for another great video!
Just joined your course & completed the 1st lecture... good stuff & looking forward to the rest.
Thanks, Aden! I'm glad you're getting some value. You are indeed awesome
Thanks for the tip ! I wonder why you didn't offer to use the same template as on the other negativity question (what are your weaknesses).
Excellent material. What if they ask “how would you handle a crisis?” How would it be different?
That’s not a negativity question anymore, that’s a problem solving techniques question, where you most likely tell a success story
That would be a leadership question, where you give an example of a success story of when you had to make a decision that was very difficult.
Just great ! And I will Stop talking 😂😂😂😉👍
Cool
AND THEN YOU STOP TALKING… haha 😂😂 I love it, great technique!
I love how funny you are
Can't you answer by pointing out a specific example (made up or not) when you had to deal with some kind of work emergency and how you managed to stay calm and help the team focus, hence showing problem solving, stress resistance and leading abilities ?
How do you handle a DIFFICULT situation at work? Please someone help me with the question. I need many examples
Is it OK to talk more if one feels one really responds well to stress - I am your man for a crisis? I value your advice, have certainly talked myself out of jobs, like this question more than some others and would rather focus on this strength than give them a chance to ask me about that time....
Hi , may be my question is not related to this video... but want to know how to handle warning letter ? Please advise..
Please guide how should we respond to " tell me a unique quality of yours".
I said to the interviewer that i count 1 to 10.
sir how about demotion? how to answer that?
Hey ur videos are good.can you please explain a topic" why do you have gap "
I really need this topic as well.

I'm awesome 😀
Hey Bill I have a question. I am currently interviewing with 2 companies for an internship position for the summer, lets call them company A and B. I really want the position at A and have B as basically a backup. My question is: if I get an offer from B first, do I just take it? or is it possible for me to ask for time to get all offers in?
Nice one, good luck
Definitely take the option B first since they already offered you the job instantly, unless you wouldn't mind waiting for response from position A within a week or so if that's your ideal job.
the background beats makes me palpitate
Oh my. A couple of years ago I answered that question saying: "Oh you know, I'm really used to stress [this is where I should have stopped]. I actually like the feeling when I'm done after a hard day and I'm just sitting there in silence, my heart still racing …"
And the interviewer took a note and said out loud: "Ok, so not really able to work under pressure." and I was baffled and stumbled something like: "What? How? Uhm? What? No. I said I like working hard!"
That idiot thought my heart starts racing as soon as things get a little stressfull.
In hindisght it was good that I didn't get that job though.
