hello anderson friends: the video is better than the paper instructions. Putting the weatherstrip back on is not "press in" rather its "snap-on". I figured this out when it became apparent that "pressing in with your thumb" was impossible... lol

Great video! When the printed directions got me confused, I found this video and followed the steps, and had it done quicker than if I stuck with the other directions. Thank you so much for posting this!

    1. The door in the video is a demo unit so everything comes out and in a lot easier that your door will.
    2. Do the replacement 1 hour before happy hour because you will want to celebrate only a few gouges and still being married.
    3. You will need two people.
    4. Those side straps are almost embedded in the screen door , goodvthing replacement straps come with the new screen.
    5. Believe it when they say the spring is spring loaded.
    6. The New side pieces need a bit more than a push of the thumb to I stall.

I agree with the comment below about the weatherstrip/side channels not easily being pressed in. More importantly the holes in the new screen pull were too small for the screws that were with the pull being replaced, even though there was an expectation that the old screws would be usable with the new hardware. Very frustrating!

I got my replacement kit but I can’t remove the old screen track retainers. I’m pulling directly away from the frame with pliers but neither side will budge.

Highly tightened spring is right! Where does it hook to to keep it down? We didn't get that white handle thing you pull it down with. It just has notches that you put your fingers in to pull it down but nothing to HOLD it down. It sprang back up and scared me. Then the screen went back up crooked,it was hard to pull down, then the screen started coming apart from the metal part. I called to get a replacement part and am getting one but still don't know how the screen stays down on the series 300 storm door, any ideas??

Original screen was ruined because the weather stripping wrapped itself around the screen roller after about 7 retractions. Andersen sent a new screen and side slots with weatherstripping (6 weeks, because I have a special order 35" door). No instructions, but I watched the video, and followed it. The video did not address the weather stripping sliding out of its track, but I finally got the side slots into the door with the weatherstripping in them (still loose--didn't know any better then). On the first actuation of the mechanism, the weather stripping wrapped itself around the screen roller, this time on both sides! The screen was damaged. I pulled out the weather stripping, and used it that way until I received yet another replacement. By this time, I'd realized those weather stripping strips were supposed to be trapped in their slots, not free to slide in and out. The new replacement, like the previous replacement, came with the weatherstripping loose in the slots! (I examined the original, and those slots had been heat-deformed to retain the weather stripping, only one end was not adequately melted, and that was the end that the original strip slid out of and wrapped around the roller.) So for two replacements in a row, the weatherstripping was completely loose in the slots, and impossible to assemble without ending up with an assembly that would immediately fail. Andersen badly needs to train their workers--this stuff should never leave the factory with those weatherstrips loose. In my latest (apparently successful) assembly, I went back to the original side slots, slid in new weather stripping on the one that had not been originally secured, and both melted and glues the end of the slot to prevent the weatherstripping from sliding out. It seems to be working fine. The video, however, makes no mention of any of this (as it really shouldn't have to, if the parts had been properly assembled (AND INSPECTED) before leaving the factory.

After replacing screen because it tore out 2 months in, the tension on the replacement screen was so high that it pulled the clip and screws right out multiple times. I ended up drilling thru the outside of the door to attach the clip. I use a 1.25 inch #6 machine screw and stainless washer and came in from the outside, use a lock washer on the inside of the door/ clip-it looks fine-just 2 stainless screw heads at top of door when window is up-worked great...so far!

I was able to install the door with no problems. However after having it up for 3 weeks the metal rim around the top of the vent window came unattached from the screen and crashed to the floor. They sent me a new window and screen. It took 4 or 5 weeks for the window to arrive and when it did, the window had been dropped on the corner and again, it was broken. So I called and they sent another window, so down the road it did arrive. With my wife's help we got it installed, however it was not easy and there was no video available for the installation of the vent window, which would have helped tremendously. Hopefully it will hold together for a long time. If it does not, I will be back posting further information on this.

@@gurutimes2 , I figured that out after research and calling their tech line. It was a brand new door. I left the screen down and it pulled off. All it is, is a roller on a spring much like a window shade. The screen is held in place by double sided tape. I do open the replacement screen they sent me but only half way and never leave it overnight.
The screen is very open at the sides and anyone can reach in and unlock it. Spiders also like to get inside between the glass panes and make webs. This is overpriced junk that had I known how bad it was, would never have bought it.

Purchased our storms and had professionally installed 9/2019. First nice day 4/2020, lowered the screen and it pulled out. Yes, called and Jesse verified the purchase of the storm doors. sent replacement, but because they were special order would take over 30 days to arrive, and instructions would be with the screen assembly. Arrived at the 35th day, no instructions. Found this, watched and proceeded to change out the screen. Though the new screen appeared to be slightly shorter, less than 1/16 in., put it in, reattached, closed the screen, pulled it down and the entire bottom corner ripped away. I don't believe Anderson has any quality control what so ever. This is not all of my complaints about these storm doors, the quality of the product or the customer service rep (s) that I have had to deal with. And so this saga will continue.......

They will send you one if you have all the paperwork and serial number. If you buy regular double sided tape, attach the screen to it and roll it up, you can fix it yourself. It's a very poor design that's prone to fail.

@2:55, I would recommend do not remove those screws because there is particle board between the exterior metals. I tried to tie it down but it would not tie after I just removed one screw.

The screen to spring roller "tape" has failed again. The initial failure occurred the first time the outside temperature reached 75º. Seems to be the structural limit to the transparent tape used to attach screen to roller. Initial failure repair the tape was upgraded to Gorilla™ brand 2 inch, clear, heavy duty, packaging tape. Disappointing choice of materials to attach screen to roller.

Just had the same thing happen, where the liner wraps itself around the roller as the screen goes up, first time used!!! Pissed off at Home Depot and Andersen. Andersen says 3 weeks to get replacement part (the phone bank in India is very frustrating, purposely so I think), and I get the privilege of repairing a brand new door all by myself. As a DIY-er, I'm sure I can get it done, but why do I have to Home Depot is complicit; they deny returns after 90 days (had a con-man, con-tractor, who screwed everything up, and until I could get it all fixed, I couldn't install the door). HD said if I had used their card, or their installer, I could return it: why the Hell does it matter what card I used? A-holes. I'm tempted to take it down, and call them up to arrange installation, then when they see the broken screen liner, return it. Why shouldn't I? They play games with their customers even after 10's of thousands of dollars of business, over a $400 door. Lowes will be the only place I will buy things, including anytime I use a contractor. The flooring I bought at Home Depot? Going back. I'm done with them. They suck.

Don't let Anderson tell you this is easy! By not means is it and they refuse, when contacted, to admit that replacement is 'all you need'!! The doors are horrible to replace with parts. Our door is under warranty and they just keep sending replacement parts. The sliding screen, windows and frame have been replaced and the door still does not operate properly. The parts do not work and YOU have to do the replacement work! Horrible customer service when asking for a complete new door. This whole experience has been a nightmare with this company!

This is a very badly designed door/screen. It looks ungly like an early 70s style glass door with two panes. If you have a very nice front door, this will ruin the effect of having it look nice.
The screen is held on with cheap, double sided tape that is prone to fail. Buy something other than anderson or renewal. They suck.
