I don’t recall Ed ever playing anything like this. Is this a posthumous design come to life or just a random guitar being released by Fender under the EVH banner? I kind of feel the brand should be about Ed’s designs if so.

It's Wolfgang Van Halen's design who has been touring with it for a while now. Body shape is essentially a Wolfgang that is larger and hollow.

I don't understand why the EVH brand HAS to be Ed's style. Ed changed guitars several times over the years. Who's to say the brand has to stick with the same design? The important thing is that whatever they release it should have some Van Halen DNA in it. And this one does have some of that DNA. It is also important to remember that Ed's son has a lot of claim to this brand and future designs. It is very refreshing to finally see something else.

Well that was my point. If it’s Wolfgang’s thing then fine. If it’s just Fender… well they have multiple other brands to play with.. Charvel, Jackson and of course Fender.

Eddie's boy loved Eddie's 335 semihollow, but broke it. Made this with the guy Eddie made the others with, toured 3 years with prototypes. Now it's in production.

I would buy this guitar in a heart beat, once I have the money but without the pickups and electronics. I would rather put my choice of pickups set and electronics
