The Mammoth WVH leader and Eddie Van Halen's go-to luthier Chip Ellis detail his signature SA-126 semi-hollowbody signature guitar for EVH.
The basis for Mammoth WVH’s core guitar tone was formed around a Gibson ES-335. Wolf tracked with that guitar the most and it helped him find his own sound, separate from his father’s. But wanting to keep things in the family, he and longtime Fender/EVH master builder Chip Ellis aimed to put the 335 heartbeat into a Wolfgang package.
Some notable Easter eggs in the guitar’s design are fret inlays that appear as M (looking down the neck) but also work as W-or E- depending on your eye angle. The SA-126 model name honors Eddie’s birthday (1/26/55). The f-hole is actually a subtle e-hole, and these guitars feature eye-hook strap buttons. (The first prototype had standard strap buttons and a side-mounted input jack, but has since been changed.)
Each one of the guitars you’ll see have different neck profiles, pickup voicings with varying heat levels (although all are humbuckers), tonewoods, and finishes. It’s worth noting that the pickups Wolf and Chip are enjoying the most are not the hottest. They said in the video that dialing back the output allowed the instrument to have a fuller, wider sound. Additional known specs (which could change at any minute) include quilted maple tops (but standard maple on this one), ebony fretboards, brass harmonica-style bridges, and 24.75" scale lengths, and for this run all the prototypes took EVH Premium Strings (.009 -.042). (D’Addario manufactures all EVH-brand guitar strings.)
This guitar is the third prototype and was special for Wolf and Chip to put together. Eddie’s main live axe during Van Halen’s last tour was a white relic’d Wolfgang model, so they wanted to do something honoring his legacy. “It was emotional, and it felt great to build this guitar,” declares Ellis. “It was a full-circle kind of moment for me.”

The most exciting new model electric guitar in a long time.
Can’t wait to play these guitars!
Wolf seems like such a great kid
Gotta have one!!! Love Mammoth…Eddie was the King! Wolf is carrying the torch and his band rocks and love the look of this guitar and the idea of a 335 like guitar with an 80s speed shredding neck!!!
I think a baritone version of these would be a great option.
YES !!!!!!!!! Chip is wearing a Kyuss T-shirt 👕
Not the guitar I would expect a Van Halen to play-but I really like the white one.
Easily the best thing evh has made yet.
man i want that kyuss shirt 👌🏼
When When When #ThankyouSanta
Why do I look so much like Wolfie…. Also I want one of these.
Didn't I see this like 8 months or so ago?
They’ve been teasing this thing since the 50s.
That headstock tho....
Who can take anything this guy does seriously...
IMO, it would have been cool to round out the uniqueness of these by having a 25.5" scale length, so it still has the EVH feel. Most semi-hollows are already 24.75".
I personally prefer 24.75”. They’re just so much easier to play overall and make them very versatile for most players.
@@MashaT22 Easier and more versatile for most players? LOL. If that were true then why are all the other EVH models and Fenders 25.5"? As I said, most semi-hollows are already 24.75.
I want the blonde one. Make that one, so I can get it.
Playing fast on a 335? May wanna watch some Freddie King!
Nah. He’s right. Playing my 335 in contrast to my Tele is night and day. I’ve found the 335 are suited for slower songs with a nice groove. The slimmer neck are a welcome with faster grooves or shredding
@@csharp57 yeah I can shred on any guitar but it's easier with flatter radius, taller frets and thinner neck profile. I tried out some 50s Les Pauls standards against the 60s standard and it was much easier to shred on the 60s neck profile. Also on the 61 SG compared to the standard SG
@@garycastronova7939 HOw tall is WOlfgang , coz he may have small hands and i think it depends n your hand size. eg a Jem neck is not thin as long as its not gloss finish i think a thicker neck can still be fast if the action is low
@@CourtWatchAu definitely . I have played those EVH guitars and the necks are made for smaller hands than mine. I like wider and thinner necks myself as my hands are bigger
@@garycastronova7939 you make good points, I like your brother(Dean)'s Drumming too :)
Take MY MONEY 🫱💰💰💰
I think larry carlton would probably differ with you on the fact that you can't play fast on a three thirty five
I dont think larry would care
auto like
$2000 is a little much.
What was Fender thinking.
It is way to much
Get the Indonesian made one in a couple years for $600
Really? There are artist epiphone that cost more than that. Any Gibson price starts above that. And this is an original shape and design guitar. Not another strat shape with a new finish.
@@Jarrodpimental BS. Think of what you get in a $1000 guitar compared to a $2000. It’s not $1000 better in terms of playability and looks. The additional $1000 is just for the brand name.
Wolf have the knowldegment of his dad ( R.I.P) but i don't like his style Wolf is more a singer with a lot of techniques like his father but is not like hear Paul Gilbert.
Wolfie ate Ed.
Way overpriced as expected
Over priced and ugly
