Thank you Mark Smith. Of all the travel videos on youtube I really like your series, yours are the best of all. Because you don't have any running commentary or music but just natural passage sounds, so your videos makes me feel as though I have been to this place. I can never afford these travels so I would say "god bless you" for giving me this wonderful virtual experience.
The airport experience has become such a pain nowadays. Even though it takes longer, Imuch prefer to travel by land and sea between the UK and Ireland.
Good video. Many people disagree that Voyager trains are 'civilised', but train travel is the way to go!!
This brings back memories. I used to make that journey from Dublin almost every year as a kid. Hearing the young child excitedly say 'there's the castle' at Conway was exactly what I used to say to my mum at his age each time we passed it! Was always an exciting trip to make back in the day.
Done this route a couple of times. Space to relax and great views as you go through Wales. I always enjoyed the castle view in particular too and very convenient if you travel with extra luggage or with a bike as I did.
Great video! That train journey along the Welsh coast is amazing, especially when the weather is sunny as it was in your video.
I had the same trip 3 years ago. It was an amazing experience. Crossing England and Whales by traing, its absolutely amazing.
As for Ireland, well, you fall in love with her when she appears on the horizon. Amazing country, amazing people. Hope to get back there soon!
You spelt the country Wales wrong its Wales not Whales haha
@@zitzong I though i told you to get off in Crewe
terry O sullivan don’t tell me where to get off I would not listen to you anyway- idiot!
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation! I can not fly because of the health issues and this is the life saver!
Nice that you chose the Gresham Hotel in O'Connell STreet.
I did this in August too. Lovely way to travel, lot's of people swear by the plane, too much hassle especially for one hour, where you have to first get to the airport, check in, wait, get tied into your seats while cabin crew fire snacks at you and tell toilet users to sit down as snacks are being served, then there is the waiting for the bags, and getting from the airport back to Dublin.... Phew
This is good for anyone with a phobia of planes
SwampertGamer14 but its cheaper to fly (Is Swampert your favourite Pokémon?)
@@caralhoguy Actually if you don't live near an Airport this can work out a lot cheaper
but what if you have a phobia of the sea?
Brilliant Garuda is it cheaper when you add in the cost of airport transfers on both ends? It’s pretty expensive to get to London city center from Heathrow and Gatwick for example.
Jerome O'Mara shut up you idiot!
I love tour videos. I went from Dublin to Holyhead, Liverpool and later to London by train. Yes, I also love trains. Wales is amazing and Welsh words need more than a dictionary/translator. Impossible to a Brazilian like me, trying to read anything.
I went to Dublin that route in 1998, before the days of Pendolinos and Voyagers I think. For some reason the direct train to Holyhead was cancelled and I had to change at Crewe on to this old Regional Railways train and I had to stand all the way to Holyhead. But the ferry was great; I took a fast ferry and it was nice and quick and the sea was calm.
Thank you! For someone that is nervous to travel, this helps so much!
Absolutely useful video! Thanks for sharing all the information
Posh hotel, taxis and first class lounge. And all in fine weather and no overcrowding. T'aint always so.
It is when I do it...
Very interesting perspective of the trip, for anyone not in the know!
Thanks!
Great series Mr Smith. Each journey really works up an appetite.
Excellent journey London to Dublin, systematic arrangement. Beautiful scenary. I know that Dublin is famous for polytechnic and technical education in Europe. Thanks.
Fabulous video -- informative and really enjoyable. Thank you!
Very helpful, thanks folks
I love that way of travel. Lately I bring the car on the ferry because I bring my family for Christmas from Dublin and drive across to Colchester and Harwich. I used to often go boat and train to London, a very good way. I love trains and the large car ferries travel well even in bad storms.
I would love to do a trip like that ! I like flying, but airports have become such a pain in the ass.
Many thanks for this well filmed and informative video.
Lovely trip. Thanks!
Very informative, helpful, educational, interesting, entertsuning, useful, and fascinating.Thank you.
At last a video that shows just what i wanted, thank you.
Awesome! I am going do the civilised one! Thank you.
Loved the video. It is a nice trip when the weather is good and you get a cabin to yourself and then have entry to the diamond club. That will cost you a lot more than 49.00
Thank you for the video and tips. What a view.
Great video, I travel to Ireland via the Fishguard - Rosslare route via SailRail ticketing and absolutely love it, been doing it since I was a child as my Dad heralds from Ireland and we always went back to visit about twice a year on average. Now he's retired back to Ireland and now I go over to visit with my little family - keeping the tradition going :).
Very different from the service forty years ago:- the Irish mail train from Euston used to be hauled by an electric engine (type 86) to Crewe where the engine was changed to a diesel (type 37). The rolling stock was notoriously poor quality. At Holyhead the "Mail boat", Hibernia or Cambria was moored right beside the platforms. These were each about one tenth the size of Ulysses and sailed to Dun Laoghaire (south side of Dublin Bay) for a direct rail link. A few cars could be lifted by crane into the hold, the bar did a roaring trade (some things dont change!) and the ships were notorious for rolling in the slightest swell hence the sickening smell of diesel, spilled stout, sea and sick....
Yes i remember that well, the cambria and Hibernia beautiful ships but they rolled alot,i was often 'off balance' for the rest of the day on arrival in Dun-Laoghaire,we mostly got the 03:15 sailing from Holyhead,
You need to be on the left-hand side of the train to see the ramparts of Beeston Castle high above you between Crewe and Chester, then RHS for Conwy. A great trip and excellent value for money. REAL travelling compared to the flight.
Thank you for sharing.
Well made video, clear & panoramic views!
Wonderful trip! Thanks for sharing 😀👍🙏✌🌞🎶
Hey I just wanted to say I enjoy that you lay your focus on trains in your videos. You really display taking the train as an alternative to flying and I enjoy that considering climate change etc. keep it up!
Looks like a splendid trip!
Seeing those canapés in the Club Lounge reminded me of Alton Brown's "Airport Shrimp Cocktail" tune...
I wondered how long it would be before someone noticed! Not an error, a bit of dramatic licence. I needed a coastal shot with the text about Crewe and Chester, to imply distance, before simply wading in with the D of L, and that was the shot I used.
Beautiful Landscapes
très beau voyage merci
love your videos , will take this trip
Thank you. Very nice.
looks like a fun and relaxing trip!! thanks
I find this oddly relaxing. 😊
Lost count of the number of times I did it the even more 'civilised' way - 7 hour bus ride from Euston to Holyhead and then boat to Dun Laoghaire - and vice versa!
buen trabajo!! me guiaré de su pasos, gracias!!
Great reports!
Thanks for sharing. A very nice viedo.
I've travelled by ferry for the last number of years, the cabins are totally worth it. Going from Dublin a good 2-hour sleep and an incredibly powerful shower in the cabin, just the thing for a train or a long drive.
Great video of a great & Civilized way to travel. I travel long distance by Amtrak trains and also between San Diego, Los Angeles & Oxnard,CA I ride Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliners. Train travel is very restful, comfortable & relaxing and I like smooth seas that I sailed on when I was in the U.S.Navy aboard my second ship in the Navy. Train travel is a great way to travel, see the countryside and don’t have to deal with highway traffic at all.
As you say, very civilised.
Very civilised if you ask me
Good to know - I'm actually going the reverse way - starting Dublin and getting to London. I'll sit on Left side to try and see castle. Was thinking of doing first class but price is over twice the amount.
It’s a shame there’s no luas link to the port terminal building
I remember this ship......We had taveled from Dublin to Liverpool last year
very well done!
Thats really amazing trip
Looks great.
Thanx for infomation dear
Superb!
Great as always
I wish I had known about this in July 1st of 2019. My husband and I were in Dungarvan Ireland and we needed to get to London. We tried to get a flight out of Dublin and the airfare was ridiculous, it was closer for us to fly out of Cohn but the price was still about $800.00 Canadian each , it was the holiday Monday that we needed to get there and they ( the airlines ) know that they have got you by the short and curlies
Another great video Mark. Welcome to Ireland.
Thanks a lot for your video and lot of great info. To travel , looking to do London , Dublin, Edinburgh , London , your website is a great way to search for tickets and routes
We did this almost exactly, except when we arrived in Holyhead, the Irish Ferry you took wasn’t running (mechanical issues, it was stuck in Dublin Port) and we had to switch to a Stena (at no charge, just change our tickets). Of course the seas were not so calm that day, and my wife did not enjoy that part of our trip (She took Dramamine.. didn’t help.)
Looks like a fun trip to do
There's also the overnight P&O ferry from Liverpool - albeit that goes from Gladstone Dock up in Bootle, so it's a bit of a way from Lime Street!
How long does it take to sail from Bootle to wherever it goes in Ireland?
nice vid mark
Nice one!
The modern descendant of the original Irish Mail, one of the first named express trains in the UK.
I must say, you were fortunate though to get a DMU trainset that had a buffet car included. Back in 2014 when I was in the UK for a month I thought for certain that the buffet car had gone extinct as not a single train I rode, including this very service from Chester to Holyhead, had one.
EXELENTES TUS VIDEOS,,,MUY BUENOS SALUDOS
Just a headsup from my experience,
I went to Liverpool from Dublin on the am ferry and enjoyed the journey over taking bus ferry train, we all had a good heading to a stags.
Coming back was different.
On the day the weather was bad so 3 boats were cancelled and all passengers ended up on 1 boat, the one we were booked for, I'm not joking when I say I couldn't even see a bit of carpet on the boat as there were bodies everywhere, it was horrible, I sat on the stairs for the rocky nasty sickly journey, and when I asked for any information none of the staff spoke english. Since then I have flown, your up your down then your there. simple.
It is Conwy Castle, not Conway.
awesome video.. puts my mind at ease. thanks a bunch.. approx how long is the journey train plus ferry?
Worlds largest ferry, we took from Ireland to the UK w/an RV on board. LOVED IT!
The Ulysses certainly was the largest, at 50,000. But Stena Line's pair of ships on Harwich-Hoek are now 63,000 tons Gross Tonnage, they're now the world's largest RoPax ferries.
Ahh the breath of the sea is so nice...
I've done this route and the another train to South Wales and boat to wexford
5:08 it was so civilised that even Prince William was on board
I'd like to take this trip again I took it in 1990
Had to cancel planned journey last week, good call under the circumstances but was very much looking forward to the Ulysses crossing. BTW at 5.12 to 5.14 glimpse the surfers wave caused by the ferry as it approaches the terminal. Hope to rebook and do this when Cov 19 has been sent packing. Keep well.
Красиво, Хорошо 👍👍👍🔆
I didn't know their where still direct London to Holyhead trains, I thought you had to get regular commuter trains and make loads of changes
Would love to take this trip one day. I wonder how easy it is to get to the Dublin airport from the city center? Very useful information. That is really cool that the ferry has a check in desk and a shuttle from the train station.
Nice video-enjoyed the train and ferry particularly. It would have been even better if the length of time on the train and ferry was provided in the video, rather than just offering a link to more info.
It was just as easy for me to get from Havant on the South Coast of England to Limerick in Ireland by Rail/Sail/Rail via London Euston, Holyhead and Dublin Kingsbridge than it is to get from Havant to Shanklin on the Isle of Wight!
+Simon Kemp
Hi Simon, welcome to 21st Century Ireland - there is no Kingsbridge Station in Dublin. You will be more helpful if you give the proper name CONNOLLY STATION
+Kieron Hooley
The official name is Heuston but many people know it as Kindsbridge.
+Adrian Wainer or the culchie portal... :p
Les Serff Ha, first time I visited Dublin, in 1982, I asked an old man the way to Heuston station, and got the reply “Sure now, do ye mean Amiens Street or Kingsbridge?”. It was only because I’d been at Connolly station earlier and noticed it was on Amiens Street, that I knew the answer was Kingsbridge! Also, that Pearse Station isn’t on Pearse Street, and pre-1966 was called Westland Row.
It’s civilised when Irish Ferries don’t cancel your ferry 😂😂
Y379HMY Productions would you prefer to sail on dangerous seas ?
Thanks for the video, quite instructive I may say. Now I need to know, how long it would take for the whole trip? I'll be coming from China and I probably won't want to get on another plane. Cheers :)
I'm going from Manchester for st Patrick's day 2022 .
The 15-deck MV Ulysses was the world’s largest car ferry when it was introduced. It may still be -not sure.
It isn’t - Stena Hollandica and Stena Brittanica on Harwich-Hoek van Holland are both 63,000 tons, beating the Ulysses 50,000.
Hi there Mark! I can't thank you enough for putting this up here! It has answered a great many of my question/concerns - though still don't know how I could avoid the Tube between Charing Cross and London Euston! Did you upgrade to club class, if so was everything you need there, or did you have to leave it for anything? Did you manage to stretch out or would it be better to book a cabin or something? I am sorry for all the questions ...
0:30: train
3:00: ferry
.... con't
I was going to message you but thought there might be questions here that would help others. I have to go to Dublin and don't want to fly really - though everyone says that I should as its quicker, better etc SO, a very big thank you again.
Ah yes. The civilized way. Up until Avanti that is!
Train ride is the best part of the trip
I'm going with my daughter in 3 weeks. How long is the total trip from London to Dublin? We only have 8 days but this looks amazing! A lot more fun than taking a plane for sure!
We did it! Only way to go from London to Dublin! It was amazing!!!
The trip takes around 7-8 hours.
Once again (This is getting boring to keep saying it) excellent work.🤔
Planning a trip to the UK and Ireland, what is the total time of this journey?
The first train you sent on was a virgin train class 221 or 220
£46 for the whole trip, steal!
anthony......you mean 52 euros
of course its more expensive to go London-Dublin than the other way lol
@@AlonsoRules ...............not with brexit.
