52 years old just purchased the Bbx never built and not too handy
Glad I found your site and hope following you I can get to the finish line
I read the Tamiya instructions are great but seems to me not as straight forward as enthusiasts with experience say it is.

Appreciate you messaging me. I think it will be a great car for you and a very capable R/C! It’s on the list to build relatively soon. I still have a few I’m building right now and then this one. I’m still deciding on a motor/ESC combo as I’m not sure whether I’ll go brushless or stay wish a brushed system. But as a whole I think the BBX will be more of an advanced build as most kits that don’t come with the motor are designed for true racers that want to customize everything.

Thanks Dirk!! Ah yes the tire sniff lol - yeah it’s interesting. Really been debating brushless or not and I’m leaning towards brushless but I’ve got time to figure that out. Thanks for the suggestion of the slipper clutch. I’ll take a look.

Bb-01 slipper clutch set. This way you can run it on and off road, plus will be great when you go brushless. Might want to get some on road tires as well. Soft compound will be destroyed quickly and haven't seen the prices for replacement of original tires. Have fun. Can't wait to get mine 😊

Great to know! Thank you. That’s 2 votes for the slipper clutch so I’m guessing that’s going to be the trend. I’ll look at road tires too. Thank you and thanks for watching!

I have the JX 4409mg low profile servo in a few of my kits, including this one. They're cheap (about 15 bucks on Amazon), metal gears, fast enough, and have worked just fine for me.
The slipper clutch is a must in my opinion. I ran it brushless with the stock spur, and it ran hard on the gears. It threw the pinion twice on me, which lead to it eventually chewing the spur. I had to thread lock the grub screw (not suggested because it could get stuck!) in order for it not to jar the screw loose. After the slipper, I didn't throw it, and it came with the same exact spur as stock.
Luckily, it comes with the metal t nut for the diff. This has the same ball diff as the TD4 and TD2, but they didn't come with the metal nut. It seems Tamiya listened to us about the plastic t nut (even though the BBX comes with the plastic, too! I assume they threw in the metal one last minute!).

Hey…thanks for this. All great info and I’ll definitely look for the servo you mentioned. 3 votes for the slipper clutch so I’ll be sourcing that out. Appreciate the detail of your comment. Thank you!
