Join Fy Nyth on social media - mewe.com/i/fynyth ! If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/arielcelestepho... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

I tried this for the first time last year and it worked great. It got us through the great dearth of eggs during those short days of winter. I noticed the only real change over time was the whites getting a little runny, but no problem for baking, scrambling, frying. I'm delighted to have a non-electric method to preserve my eggs. The lime is calcium hydroxide, which in addition to sealing the pores in the shells is actually antimicrobial.

The whites were runny because the muscles were broken down, by time, and less goodness.

My daughter in love enjoys doing this with the eggs my gals provide for them. The grandkids are very discerning and know the difference between store eggs and "Nonna Eggs" 😋 This was a great informative video Ariel...thnx so much!

We hard boil eggs when our water glassing is done and mash them with a potato masher, shells and all and feed back to the chickens. You only want to do approximately 2 eggs per bird and only once every other week. This is so they don't get an impacted crop for to much soft food. We also give peeled hard-boiled eggs to the barn cats cut or mashed with some tuna, for added protein in the Spring, they need the extra protein due to shedding their winter coats.

Wonderful! I am going to try this since we are increasing our flock this spring by putting chicks from the feed store under broody hens at night. We seem to be beating the odds and out of 9 chicks there's only one rooster chick!

In the Netherlands we call it waterglas. It's a very ancient methode to preserve eggs and there are many recipes with all sorts of herbs, with or without vinigar etc.

Thank you! So informative! Would love to try this… It was a little hard to see you and the eggs because of the back lighting from the window. Is it possible to film your demonstrations on your island countertop from a different angle?

With the pasture raised brands I buy at the stores (like Vital Farms), I have noticed the eggs do have some bloom on them so I think they're unwashed.

It takes me a few weeks to get a full jar to water glass like you do. So would I be able to put eggs in daily in premade lime water until the jar is full rather than storing up eggs on the counter for 2-3 weeks till I have enough to fill a jar, the eggs wouldn’t be as fresh then compared to if I could add eggs in each day as they lay until jar is full and can be stored?

You & Clay really need to buy a freeze dryer for pressuring food. You put up so much food it would be worth the investment. I don’t have space to store water glass eggs.

They use so much electricity! Liming eggs uses none.
For those who choose to use less power, or who have none, there are better methods of preserving.

I know there are lots of water glass egg preserving but I read FDA don't approve it as safe. Freezing with separating the yolk or mix well and place flat in freezer bags with much air out, also Freeze drying, and dehydrating, hard boil pickled eggs are best.
