      Thank you. For products like this, I do occasionally get random comments from people saying the 20+ minute video should be three minutes, but you just can't explain things thoroughly in that timescale.
      With regards to the GoXLR. I had that a few years ago and did some videos on it. I can see why it has many fans due to the effects etc, but I was a little disappointed by the software.
      Some people may still prefer the GoXLR, but I think the Bridge cast is a superior device (which is to be expected in some ways as it was released years later).
      As always, it depends what you're looking for as everyone uses mixers and interfaces in different ways.

    Hi Kevin, I've been enjoying the Roland Bridge Cast device. One question I cannot find an answer for is what does the Bus Selection Indicator do / mean? This is covered on page 26 of the user guide, but the explanation is not very clear. Any ideas?

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  Рік тому

      I believe it refers to the personal mix bus and and stream mix bus.
      That is, whether you are controlling the signal that goes out to your viewers or your personal signal.

    • @mynusten
      @mynusten Рік тому

      Thanks, Kevin...still not entirely clear as I find either bus I use for channel 1 gives the same results. I'll send an email to Roland and see if I can learn more. Will post here if I do.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  Рік тому +1

      You're welcome.
      One thing to remember is that the stream mix and personal mix can be identical. You'll only heard a difference f you customise them.
      For example, once you have set everything up correctly, you could change your personal mix so you can hear the microphone more or less. Or you could completely mute an input.
      In most situations, you'll probably want them to sound similar, but dual bus controls are very helpful when doing a live stream.

      Hi Jonathan.
      I believe you can feed your guitar signal in using a 6.35mm to 3.5mm aux cable. I'm not sure of the cable needs to have any specific specs (attenuation or whatever). Perhaps an adapter would be needed in between though. For example, guitar to a mixer and then line out from the mixer to the Bridge Cast.
      In Skype and apps like teams and discord, you just have to set the speaker to be the chat channel. Then you can adjust its volume, apply cleanup to the signal etc.

    Great video. Im trying to find out how to wire this for a dual pc stream setup purpose. Normally on the go xlr i would have the usb plugged into the gaming PC. Then line out goxlr to line in on stream pc. And line in on goxlr to line out on stream pc. But roland only has a line out. Would i be able to use a usb c splitter from the bridgecast to usb c connections into both pcs and then use the line out for the streaming PC?

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  11 місяців тому +1

      I would always attach the main audio interface to the recording/streaming PC. Then you can feed the game video and audio into the PC.
      With modern consoles, you'd generally need to use an HDMI audio splitter so that you can record video footage and capture the audio separately to feed it into the audio interface.

    Do you have any advice for setting up the shure sv7+? I discovered that I got a better audio using the USB C control directing into the computer and removing the bridgecast then using obs. Using XLR It was quiet and there was a swooshing sound. I then tried a fet head and it gated everything out including my voice.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  2 місяці тому

      Hi Sedwards.
      I've never used the SV7+, but I did own a few mics ten years ago which were dual XLR and USB. With those types of mics, the USB connection sometimes gave you the best quality out of the box.
      The XLR had the best quality connection by far, but you had to make sure you set your gain levels right.
      The Shure SV7+ looks like a fantastic mic so my first guess would be that the settings were not 100% correct. Low noise would suggest the gain levels was too high. Perhaps some other settings on the bridge cast need adjusted too.
      It's difficult to say without knowing exactly how everything was setup.

    I read a review for the Hercules Stream XLR 200 and they are complaining about not having the option to send either the audience or personal mix to your connected screen with speakers or other speakers. Is this something that is not a problem on the Bridgecast?
    I have a tv which I use as a speaker while not being live and when I'm doing basic stuff. I do need the option to get the output of the Bridgecast digitally to my speakers, not by using the aux out in the back of the device!
    I'm also still doubting if the four channels are enough for me. Are you able to control the other channels (besides the four on the knobs) via software?
    Sorry about all the questions, but thank you so much for taking the time!

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  6 місяців тому

      No need to apologise for asking questions. I'll do my best to answer.
      If you check the bridge cast manual, you'll see that the line out port can be set to your mic, your stream mix or your headphone output. I believe the headphone output will be your own personal mix.
      The aux port is an audio input, not output.
      Be sure to check out the Rolane Bridge Cast X. I've not tested it myself, but I know it's a more feature rich version with more inputs and options.

    I love the in depth review of the bridge cast! Just a quick question. Is there no way to add different mod affects other than the ones allotted in the frame of the bridge cast software? For Example like add a radio voice or other type of modulations w/o a third party software.

      You're welcome. Glad you liked the video.
      I don't believe there is a way to add additional effects directly using the Bridge Cast. Though if you're running a clean mic signal from the bridge cast to software such as OBS to record, you could add effects there.

    I can't capture the individual channels to stream with OBS. When I use the STREAM channel that allows me to control the levels with the knobs, but it captures everything as one source so I can't remove my music audio from the VOD. If I place individual sources for each point of input (Mic, system, chat, music) the knobs on the bridge cast then do nothing and defeat the purpose of the device.
    Is it possible to use the separate channels, as well as control them physically?

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  Рік тому

      Hi Indie.
      I'm not sure I fully understand how things are set up at your end.
      It's worth noting that the stream is the output, and not a channel or input in its own right. It's the audio that goes to OBS, whereas the personal mix is what you hear.
      The stream mix output is composed of all channels and you can adjust each on accordingly. For example, if I had my phone connected to play music, I just need to ensure stream mix is selected and the mute that channel when needed (line out or whatever).
      There's seven potential channels and four controls and you can assign those controls to any of the channels 👍

    • @indielocke
      @indielocke Рік тому

      @Kevin Muldoon thanks for the super fast reply!
      So what I'm trying to do is have the different audio sources run through different tracks so that the VOD doesn't pick up Spotify. I'm able to add those different audio channels from the Bridge Cast into OBS, such as having Spotify running through the MUSIC channel, then having Discord running through the CHAT channel. After that, I can select which tracks those are on to remove the MUSIC channel from the VOD entirely.
      The issue, though, is that once I do that, the Bridge Cast doesn't control the levels for those sources in OBS anymore. The only source that allows adjustment of volume is STREAM, which I then can not separate from the MUSIC channel because it's all mixed together there.
      I hope I've explained this better this time. If not, I can record some footage of the OBS panels to show the volume mixer in action. Thanks again for the quick response!

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  Рік тому

      Oh ok.
      Reading between the lines, I think you want the music from Spotify to be saved in a separate audio file so that you can letter delete or mute the audio, if necessary.
      There's a discussion about saving audio tracks in OBS at obsproject.com/forum/threads/anyway-to-save-recordings-w-separate-audio-and-video-tracks.134758/
      In the Bridge Cast, the stream and personal outputs are mixes of all other channels. So whilst you can adjust each channel and each mix, it's OBS that defines how the audio files are saved.

    • @indielocke
      @indielocke Рік тому

      @@KevinMuldoon Correct, but my problem is the Bridge Cast doesn't adjust volume on those sources individually, only as a the full mix. It seems like an oversight to not allow us to capture each source individually as well as adjust those levels.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  Рік тому

      You can adjust the gain level of each source. Just ensure stream mix is selected and then reduce the level of the channel (or mute it) .

    The Elgato Capture Cards (and most others) have an AUX-port with they captured audio on it. You can use that port to get all the other consoles it's audio to the aux channel!

      That functionality might be available in capture cards from other companies, but it's generally better to capture the audio and video together via HDMI. It should provide better audio than a standard 3.5mm audio cable.

    Hello! Great video by the way!
    I'm having an issue with the Bridgecast and utilizing Discord's 'Share Screen' function. Whenever I share my screen or an application, my audio both in my headphones and through the stream start chopping out, almost like a noise gate turning off and on rapidly. I can even see my mixer lights reflecting the choppy audio as well. I've tried just about everything and I am about to give up and try a different mixer, but was wondering if you have any insight?

      I recommend downloading the Roland Bridge Cast manual at www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/bridge_cast/owners_manuals/ to learn more about connections.
      I'm not sure of the exact setup you are using. It sounds like the main connection is to your MacBook and you want to capture audio from your phone?
      The best way to do that is to connect your iPhone to the aux in port.
      As per the manual:
      "Connect this to your tablet, smartphone or similar device. This jack is compatible with four-conductor (TRRS) 3.5 mm mini plugs.
      When you use a four-conductor mini plug cable, you can input the audio from your smartphone and output the mic audio (mono mix) to your smartphone.
      With a three-conductor mini plug, only audio input is available."
      So you need get a cable that goes from your phone to the bridge cast using a TRRS connection into aux in.

      @jaylunn4119 Aux in is an input only, so that wouldn't work.
      The bridge cast does allow you to use an android phone, iPhone or iPad as the primary device. That is, instead of connecting to your MacBook.
      That does mean, of course, that everything is running through your phone now.

      That is possible, but I wouldn't ever rely on any cable from a controller for a live streaming setup. Doing that would also introduce more audio latency compared to an HDMI audio splitter.

    I own one. The "Mic Cleanup" tab needs work. We need to be able to adjust attack/release and attenuation on the noise gate like the GoXLR. I've found that side-by-side the Roland just can't reproduce the same level of noise suppression capable on the GoXLR (Or the mini) when using the SM7B, as that software is much more robust.
    There's a long release time that's audible, and if you have a loud PC/fan running, you'll hear the noise of it trail off for roughly a half second after you finish speaking. The de-esser also seems to just add mud to the mic instead of removing the specific frequency (usually 6-8K) that s sounds typically reside in. To my ears, the compressor also sounds noticeably worse than the GoXLR's implementation, even when using identical settings. Again, I get that it's 200 (USD) cheaper, but I would've expected better from a company like Roland in terms of mic processing.
    However, it's early days, and they've got plenty of time to update the software. Hell, the Roland BGM feature isn't even available yet despite having its own tab in the software, so we know they're working on updates. If they're able to iron out these issues, this will be an excellent product.
    Thanks for the review!

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  Рік тому +1

      Great comment Stampede. Appreciate your insights.
      My experience with the GoXLR was not as positive, but I had it nearer the start when the software was incredibly buggy.
      The mic cleanup tool on the Bridge Cast is a feature I spent a lot of time with. Admittedly, the Shure SM7B doesn't really need much cleanup as it's dynamic and removes most background noise by default.
      I thought the gate cleanup noise suppression worked well. In my tests for the tutorial, I left adaptive on for one part of the video and it was too aggressive, cutting out my voice in parts.
      The real challenge was my shotgun microphone as that's a condenser. The adaptive settings worked well, but I need to revisit the gain levels and other settings as the final output wasn't as good as I'd hoped.
      Like you said, this is something that can be addressed in software. Hardware can't be upgraded.
      I'm keen to see how they develop the app.
      Thanks.
      Kevin

    Two things that need to be said about using a PS5/Xbox console via aux port and audio extractor. First using your recommended method you will not have Sony 3D surround audio support. Second You need to be sure to buy a HDMI 2.1 compatible Audio extractor. Otherwise you will not get 4k120/HDR.
