  • He did it!!!!!! Now what does thus mean for his future cause he was almost about to call it quits. What happened to all the Livescopers? Is this what we will come to expect. Are we allowed to talk about it?

So a story. Some years ago standing in the parking lot after a tourney in Palatka I asked a question. So who is this Prince guy? At the time I thought I knew who all the sticks were but musta didn't. The answers I got were fascinating. Oh he is one of the best people you will ever meet in your life. Honest quiet respectful humble and would give the shirt off his back if you needed it whether he knew you or not. That surprised me as most of the sticks in those days had all sorts of attitudes except Manuel Spencer who I thought the world of. Cliff has more than surpassed the praise of his fellow friends and opponents of that day. I have never been around him where he wasn't the best he could be and people just couldn't help saying what a nice guy. Can't say that about many if any. I am just a passing acquaintance with Cliff but I am sharing his victory as if I had a part in it. Perhaps because he is the proof that good people do exist and do prosper.

“Absurd”. THANK YOU. Finally someone said it out loud. Take it literal I think they truly believe these guys can’t fish without it. I don’t love LiveScope but I do understand our current Elite AOY leader is a stud for 19 and can catch em with or without the scope.

The commentary by the studio guys was very informative that with the warmer weather, the fish were transitioning from the shallow flats toward deeper water by the river channel. If the tournament had been a day or two later, it could have been a total flip of anglers in the top ten.

I will say a few things. 1) SUPER happy to see Cliff win that event, saw him in person at Palatka for a Bfl Super at the weigh in, seemed like a super cool dude and happy a FL guy pulled off the win.
    2) luck did play a small part in finding those fish, as he saw fish schooling middle of the day on that spot, BUT, it takes a certain type of angle to notice that AND take the time to sample it. A lot of guys today would’ve just scoped the area or scanned it.
    3) his Chatterbait Rod was WAY too stiff. Yeah he won the event but that spot being so damn stacked gave him lots of room for error. Looked like he was throwing an X-Fast tip Mag Mh on a Chatterbait and a lot of fish pulled off or jumped off on him that I really think a softer Mod-fast rod would’ve landed. But that’s all Monday morning QB stuff.
Great for Cliff and I hope he gets a few softer rods! 🤣

Lots of people are saying “if you took their FFS away (insert name here) couldn’t catch fish”. Which is stupid if you take the saying at face value. Anyone can catch fish. A better translation is “If you took their FFS away they couldn’t be competitive”. And there are guys that I feel that way about. And there are guys that I know can catch them either way.

You take those graphs off the front of everyone’s boat for 5 tournaments and we’ll find out who the real fishermen are. Of course we’d have to put in a special order for tissues and tampons after it was over. There’s so many people fishin right now that couldn’t win a damn dime without it, so the outcome would be an eye opener.

Was happy for Cliff. Even though this is his 1st win and he is having a rough year or so I have known of him for years. always seemed like a great guy. Unlike Derek who I had to look and see who he was. As far as Live scope not really being a factor, well it is a tool that is used to catch fish. Now if Trey McKinney would of used those waypoints that his old fishing partner found on Wheeler, he could have won. (just kidding, just had to throw that in there after it was brought up on Twitter last week) Love the shop can't wait to see it finished.

He landed on the juice hole. That tournament would have been completely different if there was grass. I commented several times that they killed the grass and rumor has it that they missed about a football field worth of grass and the fish congregate there. I should have shared my honey hole shell bed. It appears no one found it on live. One day when they showed the map it looked like Hunter Shyrock was really close but I’m not sure he found it. It would produce 12-15 lbs a day. I’m very familiar with that lake, do not get caught up on the grass. Find a shell bed off a point and focus there, they replenish every single day.
Hansleman found the money hole that’s always great, it’s a shell bed on the flats. It’s similar to my hole but shallower. It will reload every single day. That lake has big fish but they are so spread out it’s very hard to find them. BTW Todd, we rent out our giant camp in Airbnb. It’s 8 rooms and will sleep at least 20-25. It’s in Athens on Motter drive.

If this is true, it was desperately needed, and supports the entire point of what professional bass fishing is about. The tour existed for decades without FFS. Now, all of a sudden it’s technology that they absolutely REFUSE to go without (all while claiming they don’t need it)??? Until the tour competes without it,and PROVES it’s not needed, then it’s always going to be looked at as a major crutch for co-dependent so-called professionals. But, I digress…. Guys claim that you just drop the troller in and hunt for the fish. You cant do that anywhere in the lake. you got to know where to start. Where do you go to get those best 5 fish? Thats where experience comes in, livescope just enhances their abilities.

I understand what you are trying to convey, but I have a few thoughts to add to your commentary to stir the pot a little as well.
I will break the numbers down in the next comment but for the time being, let’s look at your comment about how the top 10 looked when it’s NOT a scoping event. I think you will find that it really didn’t look drastically different ( other than the winner ) than the other top 10’s so far this year. Just like you we can leave names out and go strictly on years of experience at this level. I’m guessing the numbers will be very interesting.
Also, it needs to be asked, why were some of the strongest and most outspoken anglers against scoping, that have the longest careers with the most experience in exactly this type of derby still at the bottom ? A tournament that set up exactly the way they would want to utilize all those years of knowledge yet they still did not compete or at best slipped out a consolation check that may have covered their food and gas for the week. Why did anglers that were seen on podcasts showing of their outrageously over the top electronic setups and saying they “hated it” but had to have it now to compete, not even getting one of those checks ?
I’m neither for or against new technology, I am however against the downplaying of any angler that reaches the elite levels ability to find and catch fish competitively.

  • @HawgWyldFishing
    @HawgWyldFishing 17 днів тому +4

Why aren’t livescopers more dominant when other bites are strong? Ummm. Shit, I don’t know. It could have something to do with the fact that livescope is not as much like spotlighting and not quite so video game, point and shoot like all these people cry about it being. Maybe it’s just another effective way to fish, of which, there are many. It’s the same way it has always been. Different bites are going to be better than others, at every single lake/river, at different times throughout the year. Sometimes it’s gonna be a punching through grass deal. Sometimes it’s gonna be a deep diving crankbait and 12” ledge worm deal. Sometimes livescope might be the best way to target them. It just isn’t the case that you can take one of those styles of fishing and compete with any consistency, at the highest levels of the game. It won’t happen. The ones who can adapt to every situation are the best anglers. The same way it has always been. Livescope didn’t change a damn thing in that regard. Lakemaster mapping had a greater impact on fishing. And it’s not even close.
