As a female I wish I had a active father especially one like Furious I never understood how good of a father he was to Tre until the older I got and rewatching the movie it just blew me away how he was with Tre very brutal and honest but also teaches his son what happens if you fuck around in the hood and that a real man stands up which is why Furious is one of my favourite things about this movie

My dad wasn't as book smart as Furious, but he taught me and my brothers the same things.
Sadly, his views on black men in the military was a little different, as my grandfather served.
Which led to my older brother enlisting, and eventually his death.
Make no mistake, Furious is right. We have NO PLACE in the white man's army.

When I had “the talk” with my son, I remembered this scene and started it exactly like Furious did. In my opinion, his character is what all young men need. There is no “toxic masculinity” just pure love in raising a boy into a man. I’m still learning as I go with mine, but like Furious said, “I’m not getting older, I’m getting better!”

Over 70% of black children are born out of wedlock, over 50% for Hispanics... We need more fathers like this, teaching their kids about whats right and wrong and teaching them how to thrive in this world, not how to complain, but to brush off others trying to hold them down and to move up for themselves and their family... Luckily I had a very strong strict mother and some very good mentors...

    • @s.c.1151

    • @5hadœwbånnedbyyou

Marriage today is a Greco-Roman concept of business agreements.
Black people don't necessarily have to be married based on white laws.
So the whole out of wedlock shit is getting old and outdated as a statistical factor to show supposed inadequacies within communities.

Furious Styles. I always looked up to that man. Boyz in the hood helped me grow up. It hurts to know when you're a young brown male and your dad is alive but he don't give a fuck about you. Chasing the worldy desires. I grew up without him. I despise him cause all i wanted was a father that believed in his son.
It's heartfelt. I've been in the streets for years. Sinned like a devils son. Out of anger.
Untill i broke down and cried to God. I lost my friends to death. Im a loner now but I'm breathing.
If God ever grants me a child I'll be the best father i could ever be.

I was the same way. Grew up as a ghetto hispanic kid in east Los Angeles with a 'dad' who would rather go fuck his mistress than spend time with his family and his son. It fucking sucks in a way you don't really understand if you haven't been through it, and it takes a toll on you that you don't comprehend until you become a man. Stay strong brother. The cycle ends with us.

In England, a lot of Kids grow up without their Fathers and they rebel like nobody's business. It's so heartbreaking. As for Vietnam, I think he went maybe so he could provide for his Family. He represented the Last of the Young Men who went. Also I know deep in my heart both Ricky & Doughboy would have given anything to have Furious for a Father. He was strict but fair, Doughboy became a devastating statistic as a Ex Con/Drug Dealer and Ricky became a Teen Father. I bet she trapped him because she knew he was going to have a promising future.

She seemed like she was genuinely in love with him but one of those goofy good looking female airhead stereotypes. If Rick had, had a father like Furious in his life while growing up he’d probably still have his same girlfriend but with the wisdom to not knock her up until at least after he fully establishes himself either as a well paid NFL star or in some alternative high paying career.

By looking at some major cities, they have a 80% absent father rate. A ongoing cycle with on end in sight.

I lived this and it was one days when friend jacory got shot over a pair of shoes and 20$ I went home to my dad
Confused, hurt, angry, wanting revenge because I knew who did it
My foster dad walked in sat on my bed and said”I won’t tell you what to do tonight, that’s your decision. But what I will say once you take a life you’ll never be able to turn back.” and hugged me with the tightest hug ever, and he didn’t have to tell me the rest, what I felt in that hug was,”I love you you’re my child and I’m begging you not to throw your life away.”
Two days later the dude who shot my best friend was found dead in an alleyway the shoes he stole was gone and all he died with was a forty and a pack of Marlboro reds

This is what masculinity is about and not that Andrew Tate Bullshit. Wearing bling and having 15 baby mommas is not masculine. Being responsible and taking care of your family is. Masculinity is also about restraint. Learning to keep it in your pants and controlling your urges. Masculinity also is about having what it takes to lead. Indeed these are the things fathers should be teaching their sons. But sadly, if anything this movie shows the reality that many men out there do not have good father figures to teach them how to be a man. So they grow up all messed up and that is how guys like Andrew Tate makes money.

The part where he tells his son to never go in the Army because a black man has no place in the Army. I disagree with that. There are many blacks who have broken barriers and made great accomplishments in the military. It’s what you make of it. I’ve heard it from some who said it that were in but it came mostly from the ones who didn’t do anything or were kicked out. I made the Army a career and retired as at Lieutenant Colonel with 22 years of distinguished service. I gained a lot of knowledge, was able to travel and live in different places around the US and the world, learned different cultures.

Its the personal experiences that do the talking for the person.
If it turned out Furious would have a not-so-pleasant time in the Army, of course he'll give out something important to say about the whole thing. Last time I checked, he was a soldier when the Vietnam War broke out. The same war that was disapproved of by the public. So the soldiers that did survive, had to go home and put up with the bullshyt/protests. Some of those vets became homeless as well.
If it turned out that people are catching Ls in certain situations, it is better off in the end if new guys who see all of that happening, do not participate.

A minor continuity I noticed. Furious said he went into Vietnam because he wanted his son to have someone to look up to.
So In 1984, Tre was 10, meaning he was born in 1974, and Furious was 17 when he had Tre was 27 in 1984. Enlistment stopped for Vietnam in 1974, plus he would have been too young to serve.
    Great film overall.
