California under the radar city of Alturas

- The city was initially known as Dorris Bridge or Dorris' Bridge, named after Pressley and James Dorris, who built a bridge across the Pit River at this location. The Dorris Bridge post office opened in 1871. The town was renamed Dorrisville in 1874 and Alturas in 1876, the latter meaning "heights" in Spanish.
Our Adventure is the farthest we've done Northern California our first airbnb since Covid 19 started, We are so excited to show you our travel journey
Grew up in Alturas. Four blocks from your Airbnb, actually! Haven't lived there in ten years, now living in New Zealand and it feels nice seeing it again, thanks y'all!
Very cool vlog and video. I was recently in Alturas and it’s a nice chill little city. Thanks for showing us around and providing this good content!
The Stars gazing up here in ALturas is great not to many lights to mess with the view
Agreed. So beautiful.
Wew thankyou i been looking for videos of this city
Mee too! Just bought property that I still haven't seen. This video helped get a idea of the general area.
Thank you for sharing this trip!!!
You guys made an amazing video and definitely made this town look so much nicer than it is
I just moved to Alturas, I'm building my homestead here
How has it been going since you posted this?
@@rockymountainsmom4590 Hi 👋 I’m in the planning and preparation phase for the land still. I’m growing a greenhouse in San Jose California atm. The trees I have planted have not sprouted yet, but some things have. I have many trees growing that are cold tolerant like pomegranates, and Goji berries that are doing fine. I have 1 apple tree I started in 2022 that’s doing well, and a peach tree I transplanted. This land is going to be turned into a greenhouse campsite by this year Im hoping.
@Masteradamant
I got to see your homestead and pick your brain. I will interview for a job next week in Alturas and I hope to get my own land and build a tiny cob house on it. Do you know if there is housing development occuring near the Modoc wildlife area?
@@fairedepeche You need to buy an off grid property there to do that. I do not own an off grid property , so I am actually creating a farm business out there on land that is suitable for building a house and commercial.
I'm surprised you guys drove so far to see Alturas! I've lived in Northern California my whole life, and finally took a trip there a few years back. I just drove up there this weekend again to check out the area. I went because there's cheap land up there, but there's a lot more around that area to explore! If you guys are ever up that way again, you should head east over Cedar Pass, and down to the small town of Cedarville! Then come back to town, and head west from Alturas to Canby, Aiden, and on to Burney Falls, or even up to Mt Shasta. Then on the way back, head down through Lassen Volcanic State Park! There's so much Beauty in the very northern part of the state, that I never realized until recently! Great video!
Northern California is really something else. We love it up there. We definitely plan to go up there again and check out every city up there at some point. But thank you so much for all of these suggestions. We will def write them down to make sure we don't forget. Thank you 🤗🤗🤗
It's a shit hole and we don't want new comers.....please stay gone
@@danab.1947 what makes it a sh*t hole? Also,,,what if I wanted to live there? Why am I not welcome?
@@farfromhome7823 it's full of drug addict losers, bums, and crime is high unfortunately such a nice area. Read the census
@@farfromhome7823 Usually if someone says it's a sh*t hole it's because they made it that way!
❤❤
Beautiful trip
I enjoyed
Keep it up
Thank you 🤗
That was actually quite entertaining! Hope to meet you someday 👍
🤗🤗🤗
Good music in this one
Fern was hot!
I know!
How was your cell phone reception and what carrier do you have? How was your internet speed?
No issues with our reception. We have Verizon. Internet speed was fine as well!
I have been looking in Alturas, CA and the crime rate on websites seems pretty high. What was your overall opinion when it comes to that? Thank you for your videos.
We were there for about 3 days and did not experience anything bad at all. If anything the people there were mostly to themselves but when asked a question they were more than happy to answer and help. We also didn't feel like it was an unsafe area.
@@cassiedragonfly9256 Thanks! Very helpful, one more question: "If you could, would you buy a cabin there and go there often to relax?"
@@LuisInPalmdale No I wouldn't.
@@cassiedragonfly9256 why?
@@falfa5496 We prefer by the ocean or deep in a forest for relaxation.
Skip if you are looking for information about the city.
I was thinking of living there, houses are dirt cheap
And it snows😁 awesome sauce! Bought property in alturas with last year's stimulus 🤷🏾♂️ nice quiet place seemingly can't wait to visit my property. Coming from Hawaii. Like the opposite of a snow bird🙃
I lived there 40 years ago. Initially in California Pines and then in Alturas. I was in school there first and second grade.
Are the locals welcoming to people of color?
Left Alturas in 77. Our house was at rye grass swail. Got on and off the school bus at the old red school house.
@anitakristensen4679 Wow... we moved there in '77 and built a dome house there. We used the little red shelter too!! The creek was our playground in the summer and the Lodge was often (probably terrorized) by us, as well. We played pool and played on the big boulders by the water (they look so much smaller now). We lived in Wild Rye Ln.
@@jwhit804 I remember the dome house. Me and the 3 Montgomery boys would catch cat fish at the culverts on the road separating the lake. My playground was rye grass swail. Our house was the 3rd one built there. I remember when the diamond c ranch had their own heard of Buffalo. So many memories.
in the great words of the beach boys I wish they all could be California girls !!!! Y'all are impressive and devoted to what you do 4:00 am start! Y'all need to come to Florida and do a kayak video Sanibel Captiva fort Myers beach area.
We love kayaking! So much fun and Im sure we will eventually make a trip out to Florida one day. 🤪
You all should come back when it is nearly 30 below zero! 50 is springtime! 😀
😂😂😂😅
Ha haa!🤣
A true Californian!
7:42 "its pretty cold out there, its gonna be in the 50s!"
😂😂😂😂
I’m from alturas for anyone reading this it is NOT a good town, I literally left on my 18th birthday! I’m 43 now with my own family but my husband and I still go back to visit our families and this town is scarier than living in Palmdale and San Diego combined!
just wondering what makes this town so scary?
@@heartw.341 she doesn’t know what she is talking about Alturas is a small beautiful town with no crime at all I use to go visit my grandma who bought a house out there I loved going to her house she had tons of lands to ride quads We would ride our bikes and treasure hunt for things on the train tracks it’s a very funny small town where every one knew every one I lived in sf and loved leaving the big city to go to the lil quiet alturas the people were so nice out there neighbors always talk to each other tight community
I live here now what's so scary
No crime at all? Definitely do more research. As a person from here. We’ve had murders, drugs are crazy here, all you have to do is Google alturas
Uno en español prima saludos
Ok primo. Vamos hacer uno muy pronto.
Yeah Alturas is not the place.
