Love to see you enjoying both of these books that I have on my tbr and on my shelf already to try! Tchaikovsky’s Shadows of the Apt series is one of my all-time favs, and I’m curious to see what Butcher is like outside of Dresden!
I havent gotten to City of Last Chances yet, I'm currently reading the first arc of Shadows of the Apt but Tchaikovsky is awesome. Profilic but a lot of variety. Aeronaut's Windless ill get to sooner than later, im trying to get to more current ongoing series
I need to read more Tchaikovsky. Ive read Guns of the Dawn, Children of Time and Ogres. And I'm actually reading Children of Ruin right now. They are all as different as can be, and I loved them all. I definitely have City of Last Chances on my list. Butcher is releasing the next book in Cinder spires very soon and I'm really excited about it.
I’m glad you enjoyed City of Last Chances! That’s on my list for sure. Tchaikovsky is really creative - none of his books are really the same. It’s one thing I love about him - each book of his is a bit different in terms of subject, style, and tone!
So happy that you've been won over by Jim Butcher with Aeronaut's Windlass. You've got me bumping it up higher on my tbr because even though he became my favorite author with the later Dresden books, I still haven't read it yet. I just keep rereading Dresden because I love it so much. But I'm definitely catching up with AW before before book 2 comes out! No way am I missing out on a brand new release from my favorite writer.
I read The Aeronaut's Windlass in... 2016? I think. It's the only Jim Butcher book I've really liked (I've also read the first Codex Alera + the beginning of the second, and the first two Dresden + the beginning of the third). I honestly hardly remember a single thing about it, at this point. I know I loved the cats, and I thought the weird setting was cool. But I remember loving it, so I won't mind rereading before the second book comes out.
@@RedFuryBooks I read it shortly before the pandemic started. You remember more than me. 😅😅😅 I have a feeling that, like you, I’ll remember it for many years to come.
Hi Josh! I've read a fair few of Tchaikovsky's works over the last couple of years, and while they haven't all been 5 star reads, none have been duds either, City of Last Chances is getting rowdier on the outskirts of my TBR 😉 You're the second person in the last week who's mentioned The Aeronaut's Windlass, and there being an excellent animal companion in there, your opinion bumps it well up the TBR list! Not least because I'm in book 10 of my 2nd re-read of Dresden and loving every minute.
I hope you enjoy them both, Derri! Tchaikovsky's style of storytelling is very unique in this one, but I liked it a lot. Still waiting for Dresden to hook me, but no doubt I'll get there eventually!
Yay! I’m so glad you loved Aeronaut’s Windlass! Eventually I’ll start reading Adrian Tchaikovsky.
Thanks again for the great recommendation!

Tchaikovsky definitely has me intrigued because of the variety!

I had heard Allen mention the same thing about Tchaikovsky. I love that some authors have those skills.
@@RedFuryBooks agreed!
Great reviews! Im excited for both of these; two of my favorite authors. I think the next Tchaikovsky you should check out is the novella Ogres!
Thanks! I'll have to look into Ogres. A novella sounds like a great one to have ready to put in here or there.

I hope to get to AW after I'm current with Age of Ash and Empire of the Vampire.
I definitely see the appeal, as I couldn't put this one down! I definitely look forward to when the Dresden books really ramp up.
@thatsci-firogue Love the duality of reading an Allen book and an anti-Allen book. 🤣
Great reviews Josh. That ‘City of Last Chances’ is a handsome hardback 😮
Thanks and yes it is!

I haven't heard much about Codex Alera, but most people seem to say Dresden gets very good eventually. We both just have to get there I guess!
Thanks for the video.
I really enjoyed Les Miserables and I agree with you certain parts should have been cut.
I will give Aeronauts a chance!
I hope you like it! And glad someone knew what I was talking about with Les Miserables haha
@@RedFuryBooks It’s been a few years since I’ve read it, I’m surprised I remembered. How long has it been since you’ve read it?
@@jorgemedina8083 15 years maybe? It's one that just stuck with me. (the musical likely helped too)
