- Today let's look at the Sonic The Hedgehog Character that spawned countless creepypastas and scared children for decades. We're looking at the Tails Doll and his supposed "Tails Doll Curse".

They should turn the Tails Doll into a little robot lab assistant for Tails. He’d look perfect stumbling around silently doing stuff for Tails.

That honestly sounds like a great way to take the character if you ever wanted him to not be a villain. Just imagining him walking around and his only expression being shown with his little antenna would be cool

When I found out about the Tails Doll Curse, I was less scared and more bizarrely curious. Never got to doing it since my family was almost never asleep by 11 p.m. (the version of the Creepypasta I knew of had that as a requirement) and I was too hesitant the two chances I did get. I think I'll try it for kicks sometime soon. Not like it works anyway.

Tails Doll design is quite clever; with Sonic and Knuckles Eggman thinks of them as perfect blueprints for his machines as seen with Metal Sonic and Metal Knuckles, but Tails? Eggman just slapped the basic machine on a doll he uses at shooting range and called it a day. (Although it's strange that the doll is capable of raising its arms when victorious)

I saw a fan theory that it was an attempt at replicating Tails' "fluffiness" in a robot.
I definitely feel like Tails Doll could be sentient due to a slip up from Eggman, and the gem on its head could be what gives it demonic powers.

Considering the part of its bio:
"As a last resort, Eggman manufactured this to catch Sonic unprepared. This, except for the power plant embedded in its head, is a mere stuffed animal."
I think the Tails Doll itself is meant to be a funny joke or reference to Tails as a character.
During the Genesis era, Tails's gameplay was sort of an afterthought compared to Sonic and Knuckles. In the original Sonic 2, despite him even being introduced and shown to fly when you play as Sonic & Tails, you cannot fly as Tails when you're playing as him solo. In Sonic & Knuckles, Tails is completely omitted from the game in place of Knuckles. And fully in S3&K, Knuckles has his own level routes to go through, whereas Tails sort of just apes Sonic's levels but doesn't even get to end the game with Doomsday. And let's not forget that he needed the Super Emeralds -just- to go Super unlike Sonic or Knuckles. Even in Sonic R, Knuckles got a Metal copy like Sonic.
Tails Doll's bio is a joke that Tails is such an afterthought, that even his replica is an afterthought. But it also symbolizes that compared to Sonic and Knuckles, he's still a little kid who will grow into a strong person like those two that Eggman will be forced to acknowledge. (Such character growth that we would later see in the Adventure games, but uhhh... he's sort of regressed, huh?)
Exactly. The thing is essentially just a Drone that Robotnik was forced to use against Sonic because Metal Sonic, Mecha Knuckles, and Egg-Robo all failed to stop him. Looking again at the picture of the doll posing under the spotlight, on retrospect you figure this was meant to show just how underwhelming and pathetic it is. "Robotnik put a drone in the head of a sockmonkey, _Ta-daaaa~~"_

Like tails is such an afterthought that the most egg man would do is just make something that looks like tails to atleast lure Sonic into a trap. It’s perfect considering how in the adventure games eggman is always playing mind games with tails and undermining his intelligence. Like eggman is so arrogant and full of himself he just cannot stand the fact that Tails thinks he can even go head to head with him lol

I don't know about all the releases but I do know that the later iOS/Android version gives Tails the ability to fly when you play as him solo. But if you start the game as Tails alone in the original Genesis version, he has no ability to fly.
Also, Tails's campaign in Sonic 2 is the same as Sonic's, the only thing setting them aside was his inability to go Super. Later in Sonic 3(&K) they fix the issue with playing as Tails solo and let you fly, but he still has the same levels as Sonic's other than his lack of Doomsday Zone. Kinda hard to say his levels are an "easy mode version" when they're the same levels -1.
And if you really think about it, you could argue in Sonic 2's case that Sonic has the easier mode since he can go Super and become invincible in his campaign, while Tails can't, but I guess you can argue that Sonic 3 Tails has the easier mode since he can just fly over a lot of obstacles and levels.
The age old Tails doll creepy pasta stuff was def creepy. And my friend "pretending" to be possessed because of that, was most likely one of my most memorable times.

I had Sonic R on Saturn. Teddy Tails, as he was called, was the first unlockable character. The others were all robots so I just assumed Teddy Tails was a robot. Also, he was not the worst character. Although he had low top-speed, he could glide across water with no reduction in speed. Better than Amy and Robotnik

Interestingly, the official Sonic Twitter shows to acknowledge the Tails Doll’s existence as if you go on to their twitter page, you’ll get a made-up book cover of a story featuring the Tails Doll with text on top of the image saying “Spoiler: Tails dies at the end.” So it’s likely that not even Sega has forgotten about the Tails Doll.

The people complaining of the characters of Sonic saying that there are "too many" don't say a word of how many characters Mario, Pac-Man or even Crash have.
I‘m a Mario fan and I agree. Any validity this complaint might have had died the moment Dorkly included it in their „If Sonic was bought by Nintendo“ video and the example they listed, I shit you not, was Fang the Sniper. You know, this one pretty obscure character that had not been used in any game for like two decades at this point?
And yes, I did take the time to list any and all obscure Mario characters that appeared in more than one game. Surprise, surprise, it was a very long list, way longer than it would have been if you did the same thing with Sonic. The total number of characters isn’t the problem, the way SEGA tosses older characters to the side whenever someone hip and new shows up is.

Headcanon: The Tails Doll is an unfinished Metal Tails. Dr Robotnik was not able to finish it in time for the plot of Sonic R, so he just stuffed the unfinished body into a doll.

The best thing is this; Exe tried to be scary- one could argue a little too hard, and people lampooned him, and his creator for the pretentious hack he is.

I once had a dream with this guy in it. I wasn't a typical nightmare, and I've gotten over this fear.
All I remember was that I was in a house in the middle of foggy nowhere when I look out my window and Tails Doll was there. We made eye contact, as he just floated there. The doll then tried to get in by throwing itself at the window. It was glass so he bounced off. And then he flew away over the hill and disappeared.
He acted like a bird. Hit your window, recovered, and flew away.

As someone who didn’t grow up with the creepypasta stuff, it was really weird seeing everyone scared of the tails doll. I just find him really dopey and pretty endearing.
For me it’s like being scared of the Yellowhead costume in the original Little Big Planet.
I'll never forget the Tails Doll stories, they were a big part of my late childhood in the late 2000s. I remember doing the curse with my GameCube and not being able to sleep that night. I remember Tails Doll story boards where you could submit your own stories to be seen by anyone that visited the site.

this video for me is _incredibly_ vindicating, because tails' nightmare is what introduced me to the doll when i was around 7 and i had the _exact_ same experience of seeing that ending without hearing the audio after they popped up behind tails and the screen went black and it lived in my nightmares
seeing it with audio a couple of years later was so _ridiculous_ and i have to wonder how much terror i would've been spared if i knew tails just gets annoyed and beats him up after it fades to black ! hearing someone in a video with this many views mention the exact same thing feels incredibly cathartic
Oh man, the nostalgia here hit me like a truck with this video... Sonic was probably the first video game series I ever got into and when I found the tails doll it SPOOKED me to the core yet I also kept playing and wanting to know more. I played tail's nightmare SO many times back in the day and on a first playthrough that jumpscare got me so bad... All the creepypasta gameplays alongside the ones of Pinkamina Diane Pie I was watching at the time kept me WAY up into the night and now as somebody who's grown up to LOVE horror looking back on this gives me a weird yet cozy feeling of how far I've come. Maybe it's cause I was in a dark place at the time I got into those things and as I grew up they stayed with me despite how drastically much my life changed over the year? I don't know... Either way, this is a great video and unlocked a lot of both nostalgic yet horrifying memories for me. I also got the original Archie comic where the tails doll first appeared in Sonic Universe almost immediately after finding out about him online playing bootleg Sonic games. At the time the coincidence terrified me but now it makes me laugh at how great the timing was. Hope anyone who actually reads this comic enjoys the story! (maybe I'll make a video about it one day...)

It would be kind of funny if we come to find out Tails Doll is just tails from some effed up eldritch horror version of Mobius and he's actually the hero there, and what we see as creepy is just the emotional damage he's suffered and quietly deals with and all he wants is just to find peace and be loved.

In this universe, Tails was captured by Eggman and was turned into a puppet used as a killing machine. He was forced to chase around his friends and kill them out of his will, including Sonic of course. When all of his friends were gone, he couldn't take it anymore, he snapped out of control and killed Eggman in revenge, but even that didn't help with all of the trauma he had to face. Tails Doll was alone with no one left, until he went to another universe where a similar thing is happening(?). Tails Doll tries to save the other Tails and his friends from suffering a similar fate that he went through, but they thought that he was an enemy made by eggman

I remember another version of the creepypasta being told to me by a friend (being more of a sonic fan than me at the time ) when i was a kid.
It was basically about a kid who spent a whole night trying to unlock the tails doll character, but by the next morning when his mom goes to his room, she founds him dead. Next week, His parents give away the console and games to his best friend and when he checks it out, he finds out that the kid had just unlocked the Tails Doll character.
So, definitely more credible than the original. This was the first time i hear about the original creepypasta.

Actually, around 2008-2009 I had discovered an online story about a man discovering the tails doll in a dumpster or something. Unfortunately most sonic websites I used to frequent are completely gone, so I can’t exactly figure out when/where the story was published. He sort of became an obscure icon of the fan base alongside other characters. The whole “scary tails doll” idea had been in the fandom far before anything like Sonic.exe kicked off

Tails Doll will always...and will remain my favorite Sonic Character, no matter what... i did over come his curse, cuz i grew quite fond of him when he saw him appearing in my own nightmares, even made a O.C. that looks like him, but slight changes and different intentions

I can appreciate the clear effort and love for the Tails Doll you put in this video. But the way you structured it is a bit misleading, no offense.
When mentioning creepypasta you start with Sonic.exe which implies that Sonic.exe (which came out around 2012) came before. The Tails Doll curse 100% began in the 2000's as evidenced by numerous deviantart drawings, it being featured in Sonic Shorts 2 in 2008, and the mid 2000's quacker and bowen site "Tails from the Crypt" which you used in your video.
I know in previous instances you mention youtube amvs, the 2008 Newgrounds flash game "Tails' Nightmare" and how this was apart of your childhood; but to younger viewers who didn't live through this stuff like we did, the references are not enough to explicitly state the timeframe.
I find this important to point out because Sonic.exe (for better or for worse) is a culmination of tropes from early creepypasta forerunners like Tails Doll. So to structure it in a way that somehow attributes Sonic.exe as somehow being a fresh take when creepypasta as a term had been already established in the mid to late 2000's is muddying the already not well documented history of Tails Doll and creepypasta on the internet.
I still must thank you for bringing this topic to the light of new people, I only wish that you had made it more clear how much of a seasoned contributor Tails Doll was to creepypasta and internet culture.

But Tails Doll needs to come back into the series because if he does not show up in the next few sonic games I'm done with Sonic
Same, i think he has a chance of it being more people's favorite sonic character if they do him right. But my question is, when he comes back will he have a voice?? That's the part that horrifies me the most, in my opinion i think he should stay silent, like classic sonic.

This legit happened to me once:
Many years ago for Christmas I got the Sonic Gems Collection, and after I was done with Sonic CD, I decided to play Sonic R, with Tails Doll being the first character I unlocked. I then used him to get all the Chaos Emeralds so I could unlock Super Sonic, so I could then unlock everyone else. Beat the whole game in roughly an hour plus (counting bathroom breaks and such). That night, after I went to bed, I had a dream where I was in a large black void with a singular light hovering just above me, then suddenly, I kid you not, the Tails Doll materialized right in front of me, said "Thank you for playing with me," then disappeared.
I didn't learn of the existence of any of those Tails Doll creepypastas for another FIVE YEARS.

The Tails’ Nightmare I remember only had music and the jump sound effect. No dialogue from Tails. Interesting to know it was a lot less scary with that audio.

I cracked the code... There are one of two possibilities.
1. He's a clone of Mark created by one of the people he collaborated with. He has a flaw where he can only talk about Sonic as compared to the real Mark's flexibility.
2. He's his own best friend.

I actually was told about this when I was in Elementary by a classmate of mine. Without knowing about what Sonic R was, my child brain came up with some pretty disturbing imagery for the Tails Doll and I had to spend quite a few nights sleeping with my parents, eventually getting so bad I threw out my 6 inch scale Sonic X toy of Tails that I got with Sonic and Knuckles for my birthday (the Sonic Heroes demo and Megacollection were my first Sonic games at the time). Time passed and I eventually forgot all about it until I got into High School and I became an active internet user...aaaaand as soon as I saw it and all the fan stuff surrounding it, I immediately felt disappointed.
An entire childhood of anxiety and fear completely thrown out the window by the most wanna-be edgy and dark thing I've ever seen. Fuckin' lame. :[

I'm so glad I know someone with such a similar story as yours, my older brother thought it would be funny to introduce me to sonic.exe when I was 6-7 just to scare me as a joke, ended up making me afraid of my sonic plushies, making me not touch any of my sonic games, and completely loose intrest for several years
