I would have loved to see a interaction between Dr Starline and Snively that involve both of them talking about their experiences as Eggman/Robotnik’s right hand man
@@rayvenkman2087 I love Snively as a character, but I think Starline's ability to actually plan things out means he floors the little guy. The core appeal of Snively, for me at least, is in his name: he's a pathetic little wretch that can't really do anything right. Sure he's clever and conniving, but he's also dependent on his betters. Snively betraying Starline would go just about as well for him as his betrayals of Eggman; that is to say, "not well." ***SPOILERS FOR IDW AND ARCHIE*** (if that matters) Eggman kept Snively alive because Snively didn't threaten him. Starline, however, was dispatched of as soon as he proved himself capable. It was the same with A.D.A.M. and Mecha-- as soon as Eggman realised they could succeed in overthrowing him (or at least seriously interfere with his plans), they were destroyed. Snively was just never worth it. But maybe I'm overselling Starline. After all, he got duped by Zavok twice. Fucking Zavok. Twice.
@@zuresei To be fair, Snively is a MUCH greater threat than eggman, which Robuttnik himself agreed (Something his ego has never let him do before that point). I mean Snively almost destroyed EVERYTHING
Have no idea why it took me so long to realise this. Eggman is fat and wears red. Snively is skinny and wears green. They're essentially Mario and Luigi.
Good video! Though a few misconceptions. 1. Sonic’s first name isn’t Ogilvie, that was a scrapped plan that never saw print. 2. Antoine didn’t die, he got put into a coma from the explosion. As for Snively himself, while his ending is absolutely depressing…I can’t really say that he didn’t deserve it. He was a genuinely awful person who hurt and killed people for his own benefit, and he had every opportunity to turn over a new leaf whenever Robotnik was out of the picture. Even when he was ‘in charge’ he was no good at it. Bro could have lived a happy life in Knothole, but nope.
Technically, Antoine does die. Ian Flynn posted a dissertation circa 2015 on what would have happened had Penders not sued. Flynn's plan was for everything to go wrong for the Freedom Fighters from issue 225 to 275. Sally would be roboticised. Naugus would take the throne. The Acorns would be forced into hiding. Antoine would die. NICOLE would become a pariah. The list goes on. Long story short, the storyline got bleak as hell. This was nipped in the bud in the final draft when Sonic sulks after bollocking Silver then Tails and Amy tell him to snap out of it.
@@macuser7048 it's all about execution. The way Sally died was weird and convoluted. The way Antoine was going to die would have been a tragic loss in an already terrible situation. Also the timing of it was poor, at the time that End Game came out people who were fans of the comic and SatAM were huge Sally fans. Ken Penders tried to kill off a bunch of people's favorite character right after having introduced a bunch of nobodies (one being a possible self-insert) and made the story all about them in what, at the time, was going to be the final hurrah for the series. For clarification the Sonic team at Archie thought that SEGA was going to be cancelling the comic pretty soon and wanted to give the series an actual ending (hence End Game) rather than it being cancelled mid-arc. Which sadly and somewhat ironically is what ended up happening anyway almost two decades later.
As long as it’s done right, I wouldn’t mind seeing Snively again. He really does have the potential to be an interesting rival for both Sonic AND Eggman.
It would be cool to see him again, but there will be some issues especially with the lore of sonic itself, like is he in the Archie comic dimension or not, was eggman, to the last entry sonic frontiers, a robot all this time, and so on and so forth, you see what I mean.
Damn, didn't know Snivley's character arc went that deep. For the longest time I just saw him as just no different than any of the other Robotnik/Eggman henchmen characters. But to learn he had a tragic childhood, feeling like the only family member he had to turn to was his abusive uncle. And just when things started to turn up for him, things still eventually went downhill for him.
Snively wasn't just any lackey to the doc, he was the longest lasting lackey. Freakin showed up in the early comics as early as issue 6 when he guest starred in a Christmas special, and then became an actual lackey in issue 8. He truly developed as a main villain over time, but he maintained the same unhealthy habits of Starscream from the Decepticons.
I always liked Snively. Him being voiced by the king of hammy villains, Charley Adler certainly helped. I don't think being robots necessarily means they lack free will, just look at Neo Metal, but having Snivley start to resent Robotnik and plot against him was an interesting wrinkle we don't see in any of his other minions, not even the other human one. The others are usually just comic relief, and whatever Stone's deal is.
In the new IDW comics, they did a similar thing with a new villain called Dr. Starline and it was pretty great honestly. It didn't stretch nearly the amount of time of Snively's whole thing, but it was really good honestly.
@fighting media lounge I definitely recommend catching up on the comics if you haven't cause he started out genuinely loyal, but you know what they say, don't meet your heroes.
THIS!! That's what makes him a great villain. You feel real bad for him because of his sad backstory and the abuse he faces, but at the same time, you can't excuse the atrocities he committed. I don't see why Sega won't bring him back, he has the potential to be a powerful character in a sonic game
Snively seems like such a poor and broken person. He's just that run of the mill villian who thinks he's the worst but always falls short. It is crazy how Doctor Robotnik replaced him with a robot him. And leaving him to rot. It almost makes me feel sorry since no one will realistically miss the real him and will be lucky to catch onto the fact that he's been rotting in a glass tube for years, but then I remember how much destruction he has caused to earn that fate.
Quick note on the new Eggman body. It was a walking robotocizer. One touch, and you went from flesh to scrap in an instant. This was the comic's way of explaining why Sonic doesn't just smash the new Robo Eggman. At least until a bunch of meddling ant aliens turned all the Robians (what the Robotocized Mobians were called- really) and Eggman back into flesh and blood.
@@ToaArcanWhat other names can you come up with that don’t include Death Egg Robot, but still have the Egg prefix for that Death Egg Robot looking machine?
@@aidanhammans9337 Egg Titan, Egg Colossus, something in that vague area. I'm not great with names myself, I don't even remember if those have been used before.
Sonic really needs other villains besides Eggman (I don't mean that the idea sucks of Sonic constantly fighting Eggman but yeah I meant that a rough gallery something similar to Crash or Batman or Spiderman alongside keeping Eggman of course)
@hiimpubg360 In the Classic Era, we had Fang, Bean, Bark, the Hard Boiled Heavies, The Witchcarters, and the Battle Kukku Empire, and the IDW comicsgave us, Surge, Kitty, Rough and Tumble, Mimic and Clutch, They make for good villains, along with the Deadly Six.
Eggman has such a rich history of underlings in almost every canon of him, but it's a shame we never really got one that stuck in the games. The most we get is Orbot and Cubot but they're basically just cutscene fodder for lame jokes rather than characters with an actual presence.
If they ever do decide to bring back Snively, I could easily see Orbot and Cubot working well off of him. With Snively being constantly mistreated and abused by his uncle, it only makes sense that his closest companions would be a duo of incompetent robots that he’s forced to work with.
Really robotniks only underlings that really did anything where scratch and grounder (they had more impact on the plots if those drug trips then tails did) and snivley
theres also funky story about cunning right hand of eggman recenetly(hes dead vut oh well at least the platopus henchman left surge n tsunami aafter him, epiic)
I personally liked the idea of the Egg Bosses from the Archie reboot, a dozen of overseers acting as an extension of the doctor's will but with their own reasons for joining him, whether it was to be on the winning team or simping for the doctor, to having their family held hostage or trying to control the doctor's damage rather than stop it completely. Shame it never lasted long enough to go far, it was an interesting way to increase the amount of villain interactions without constantly creating new threats which was a big issue of the 3D games pre-robotnik only.
I liked a lot of the Archie villains, Scourge, Dr. Finetivus, Snively, Enerjak, Naugus etc. I sorta wish we could put some of these villains in the games just out of pure curiosity. At least the IDW villains have a chance of actually showing up I guess oof
Sadly, SEGA seems intent on flushing Archie and Fleetway down the drain. Huge shame. Burning down that part of the franchise while consistently failing to produce high quality games really just dooms my boy Sonic to being the joke of the video game community.
@@gregm4813 Sega never liked western sonic to begin with anyway so this shouldn’t be a surprise, the movies being the one exception. Almost like how Nintendo doesn’t care much for Krystal
Honestly Finetivus always felt like the one comic villain that could actually fit into the games no issue at least imo, iron queen being a large maybe. Adventure era characters hanging out with the freedom fighters always fascinated me
With all these ideas I wish they had made a story of their own, over tacking it onto Sonic, and maybe we would still have classic sonic games on a regular basis. Rather than "Classic sonic" in his own microcosm. I just have to hope Super MArio's weird uncle won't turn evil and become the new "fan favorite" roster filler, now that the Mario movie does similar rear pulls as Sonic SatAM.
I always loved Snively, especially since he is just the Starscream of Sonic. Plus, SEGA still is allowed to use him. Also, Ian Flynn said that Snively would have come back, but not for a long time, to make his defeat feel more shocking.
@@bowserbreaker2515 I don't think that needed to be shown. By that point, we already knew Eggman had nuked his own world to glass, turned most of his family into steel statues due to the way the Roboticizer works on humans, used people as batteries through a machine that not only leeched their life-force but also mind-wiped them for no reason, which resulted in Charmy getting permanent brain damage, surgically implanted cherry bombs in the skulls of his underlings during the process of cutting their limbs off and replacing them with weapons, including doing so to children, willingly used a weapon that would've killed every last one of his minions and destroyed all of his empire if it had actually successfully fired, and carved up Mecha Sally without powering her down, when it had been established that Robians see, hear, and feel everything, they're just powerless to do anything about it. Eggman being the scum of the multiverse was well-established by then. Being a dick to a guy who betrayed him is like #45897 on the list of reasons he's a monster. The only thing shocking about his treatment of Snively is that he didn't find a way to be even crueller. He didn't legionise him or put a bomb in his head or do anything like his usual antics, he just put him in a box forever. Also the issue where Eggman actually beats Snively and locks him up came out like four months after the main book already confirmed that Eggman won and Snively was dealt with, because the arc took place entirely between Issue 234 and Issue 235 of the main book.
@@jmachero5852 SEGA are violently allergic to using anything they didn't explicitly create in-house, and even more allergic to ever admitting that their American branch ever had a good idea. These are the people that had us in a situation where Sonic and co. were from an alien world, where several of their adventures took place, but that planet was referred to only as "Sonic's World" instead of the extant name that SEGA of America gave the same concept back in 1991. There _has_ been a bit of a shift lately, with more IDW elements being shouted out, but how long that goes on for remains to be seen. IDW as a company is in pretty bad shape (Their profits have been on a steady but dramatic decline since early 2019), so if they go under and kill the Sonic comics all over again, SEGA will probably just drop the comic references all over again.
@@piranhalettuceMy guess is that they don't find them interesting or they serve no purpose. Fans hate Sally because of the comic lore, Rotor is forgettable, nobody likes Antonio, Nicole is just there, and Bunnie deserves better
Ogilvie is not Sonic's real name in the Archie Sonic series. That was a scrapped idea from Ken Penders that people misinterpreted that as "canon" when it was never established anywhere in any issue of Archie Sonic. It is mentioned that Sonic had a different name at birth, but it's always been left as a mystery.
If he has a real name they never revealed and we know Ogilvie is the idea they had cooking for it, then it's the closest thing we have and may have even been put in later had the comic not been canceled. But more importantly it's funny, so I choose to believe it.
And there's Sonic Retold by Glitcher also continuing the same thing but much better art and a but bleaker like Sonic having nightmares of losing Sally but add character development for Amy.
Some of my favorite Sonic characters are those who have allied with Eggman only to betray him later on once they realize he’s completely heartless. Dr. Starline and Snively are my favorite examples of this. Henchmen who worshipped him only to realize that he’s never going to appreciate them back, then proceed to betray him in an attempt to be a better villain. They then inevitably fall at the hands of the one they once looked up to.
I know this comment is a joke but Dr Robotnik's mean bean machine was probably the sonic game me and my family would mostly play out of all sonic games, so the reference is something i hugely appreciate :')
I really liked Snively in Satam, I really wanted to see him be the villain in season 3. and was so glad he was in the Archie Comics. I do think Sonic needs more villains other than Eggman in the games but the issue is that they are either used once or aren't really that interesting.
Slight pedantic clarification, I don't think Antoine necessarily _died_ when Metal Sonic blew up? I think it just put him in a coma, though this was never really resolved before the reboot so in effect he was out of commission, lol. Agreed with this, though! I always thought the dynamic between Snively resenting Eggman but also constantly losing to him in the end was very interesting and even a little tragic.
I wish Scratch and Grounder from the old AOSTH cartoon could make a comeback in some way Throw on Coconuts the janitor for good measure while we're at it
Man I love Snively. He really was the perfect stooge. He swung for the fucking fences in the end and struck out, but at least he swung. Bring him back, Sega.
I do agree I wish eggman had less robot sidekicks and more organic ones. Starline from IDW is a perfect example! Just having someone there to bounce off eggmans bombastic personality that isn’t a total yes man brings out so much of both individuals.
Though not one-to-one I see Agent Stone as somewhat of an evolution of Snivley. Since Jim Robotnik is allegedly dead now, Stone could carry on the Eggman Empire via awakening Shadow.
I agree, Snivley is a great "Starscream-like" villain, and sidekick/foil for Eggman, and very underrated character. Sad, his legacy gets ignored in favor of Sonic's cute and cuddly friends. (As much as I miss them too.) Nice to see someone shed light on the interesting directions both the SatA.M. and Archie canons did with him. And I also agree, Archie Sonic, despite it's weird phases, and bad issues, was still a great Sonic series, and still my favorite Sonic canon.
Keep in mind the Archie Comic take elements from SatAM with AoSTH with Game elements. Archie doesn’t own the SatAM characters, Sega of America owns them along with the AoSTH and Underground characters. DiC aka WildBrain Studios owns their Cartoon rights.
The sonic genesis comic was also my first sonic archie comic I got, it was really early into my interest for sonic and I got it at a schoolastic book fair. Ever since then I've been in love with the franchise, and its really cool to see someone who had a similar experience with it. Great video btw! it was fun to listen to.
Since I was never really fully into any of the SatAM media, I didn't know much about Snively. After watching this video, I have to say he's actually a really interesting take on the Eggman lacky. I'm pretty fine with most of the Eggman robot henchmen but I feel like you made a good point about their lack of free will not really allowing them to do much. This also made me realise that we actually do have a real lack of interesting villans besides Eggman. They were usually just large creatures who maybe had interesting backstories but little to no character. The only ones that break this mold really are Neo Metal Sonic (who is kinda still tied to Eggman) and Mephiles. I love Eggman and I personally think he never really gets stale but having someone not affiliated with him in the slightest with some interesting character attached to them pulling their own strings in the future could be nice. I'm speaking with a bit of ignorance since I still haven't played through Frontiers so maybe it happens there.
I feel like the Egg Bosses in the Archie reboot were among Eggman’s other lackeys that probably came close to rivaling the likes of Metal Sonic and Snively, with each of them having unique characterizations and personal conflicts that made them surprisingly compelling or interesting villains/anti-villains. Weather it was Nephthys the Vulture secretly collaborating with the local Freedom Fighters in an effort to make the conflict seem real to keep their homeland safe, Clove the Pronghorn being forced to join Eggman’s ranks in order to save her gravely-ill sister’s life with cyborg enhancements, Mordred Hood trying to maintain what little power he had left in the kingdom he supposedly inherited, and Thunderbolt the Chinchilla just being a hyper, sadistic fangirl of the doctor among others. Had Bunnie’s uncle Beauregard been spared from the reboot, he too would’ve been a great anti-villain under Eggman’s belt, being a victim of discrimination by a shady team of Freedom Fighters who still saw him as an enemy despite being deroboticized. In terms of other Sonic villains, I know people are kinda mixed on Naugus. Sure, he’s not exactly a compelling character, but his whole shtick of being an evil wizard of both arcane knowledge and eldritch powers, to which even Eggman himself fears, really helps him stand out from Eggman’s whole aesthetic.
@@icejuice4212 Hell, Im just someone who's just getting into the comics but I love the concept and design of Enerjak, it's like something youd see in a Shounen from the 80 's and 90's like some YYH or Saint Seiya type thing.
Just MUCH less intellegent or interesting... Kinda like the majority of the current human cast. I don't watch Sonic for "Buddy Cop" "Angry Black lady stereotype" "completely inferior less redeemable G.U.N. I love Ixis Naugus. He was this creepy, evil wizard that wanted to take over the Acorn kingdom. A pretty cool villain in the Sonic comic book series. And his backstory of how he came to be is really interesting and insane.
On the subject of Robo Robotnik. I always imagined that since Julian is so different from the games Robotnik, the Archie Comics could’ve introduced games! Robotnik proper by impersonating Julian before being found out and taking up the name Eggman.
Snively deserves more attention, he's got a lot of potential as a villain. I've said it somewhere else before, but Snively is essentially the Azula of the sonic universe. He got manipulated at a young age to do what an older relative wanted him to do. And he only continued serving him out of loyalty/fear. Only, Snively has nobody. That's the saddest part about him, his family's dead/disowned him, and the only relative he hangs out with treats him like shit
unlike azula, snively lacks the brains, the strength AND the bravery to accomplish much on his own. as seen when he finally becomes the nominal big bad. What happens? his girlfriend takes most of the power and belittles him, and when everyone comes apart his first instinct is to run off and rather than help his girlfriend he goes back to his terrible uncle who he hates because he fears and respects him more.
@sarafontanini7051 Honestly, that's what I like about his character. He'll come up with plans of revenge, but when it actually comes to it, he's too scared. He's dependent and a coward. He's all talk
The only way SEGA shows that Eggman is not that evil is introducing a monster who betrays him and also showing Eggman helping Sonic and the gang. But if we talk about Eggman and Snively the thing change
We need more villains like Mephiles, Surge and Starline. Fascinating potential, imposing presence, well written, well acted if they're not in printed media. Someone to pose a threat to Sonic and the gang not thanks to Robotnik's direct involvement but because they have their own motives and goals, there are more threat than just the Doctor in the world.
The topic of this video was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Glad to see the simp king get some much-needed attention Joking aside, Snively honestly had such an interesting dynamic with Eggman pre-reboot, one we wouldn't see again until Starline. His role as "The Starscream" of the comic made him not only a threat to the heroes, but a chaotic variable for the Doctor to keep track of lest he be usurped. And this tension wasn't just another case of "Eggman summons this week's eldritch abomination," Snively was his *nephew.* That made things so much more personal, and it was great to see how their methods contrasted. Personally though I'd argue Hope's fate was more tragic than Snively's. Last we see of her, she's breaking down in front of Omega after realizing that she'll never have a happy family in light of Snively's visit. And unlike her half-brother who at least exists in the next world, Hope is erased alongside the bulk of Pre-Reboot characters, making her final moments even more tragic. It honestly stung almost as much as losing Shard :(
What I think would’ve made infinite cool while keeping his general edginess would be to have had him be the avatar and then sonic has to kill him. Good stuff. Maybe at least some other relation to the avatar, like being their brother or childhood friend, there could have been this big mystery of “what happened to xxxxx the wolf nine years ago?” Well, he got roboticized by GUN or something and then joined a resistance and then shadow killed them for bothering him during the events of adventure 2, maybe. Would’ve been just as angsty in a much better way.
@@fightingmedialounge519 Agreed, there would have to be the actual present execution in the game because Sega would probably have released this kind of backstory in a comic rather than touch on it in the game
Outside of what's already been mentioned, I think a cool callback to Snively would be if Agent Stone from the movies had Snively as his first name They're vastly different takes on an Eggman Sidekick, but if some time in the future Stone takes over as the main villain of the movies without Jim Carrey's Robotnik, I think it could work
Snively had more of an understandable motivation to betray Robotnik/Eggman that Dr. Starline, and was far more dangerous. He didn't fanboy over Robotnik/Eggman...he simply knew him better than anyone else could, and endured far more abuse. It's sad to think about how Snively never received the satisfying ending he deserved...
Sniveley betrays people more than how many times Archie forgot a plot point only to come back to it many issues later either to retcon it, or just do something ridiculous with it!
The Deadly Six were actually pretty competent in the IDW Metal Virus arc. Also, I feel like Starline (also from IDW) was a more competent (and cooler design wise) Snively…funny, considering both of them get backstabbed and killed.
My favorite fact about the Sonic Archie Comics is that Mobius, the planet Sonic and co. live on, is actually Earth thousands of years in the future. You see, aliens called the Xorda came to Earth to offer a peaceful alliance. But because humans gotta human, they captured and disected their ambassador (and one of humans looks like the earliest anscestor of Robotnik too). In retaliation, the Xorda bombed the entire planet, said bombs breaking down humans to basic components. Only a small population of humans survived and formed a secret civilization. The DNA of the humans merged with the animal kingdom, rapidly evolving them to eventually create modern-day Mobians like Sonic, Tails, Amy, Sally, Antoine, etc. The parts of DNA that remained pure would evolve into Overlanders like Robotnik, Snivley, Regina, Hope, etc. Sonic lore, folks.
Man, I always love seeing Snively from time to time. Him being a temporary villain all for him to be locked away is deserving and sinister. He might be worse than Eggman.
I'd say the villains introduced in the IDW comics have been good so far. The "Glitch" Trio (Starline, Surge, and Kitsunami) are probably my favorite villains in the franchise as a whole and Mimic was a solid villain for Whisper, but those vermin crooks (the skunk brothers and the possum mob boss) are just kind of there and haven't left much of an impression me (though maybe they might have something interesting planned for the possum guy later on). Given Tangle was acknowledged in Frontiers, I'm hoping we could see the games bring in some of them. I'd be curious to see how the games would handle their stories and translate them to gameplay
Surge and Kit would be really good playable characters if they ever decided to do a Hero and Dark story type of game again. They're similar enough to Sonic and Tails to fit the typical gameplay roles of speed and flight characters, but they're different enough to have really different gameplay past that.
They may have sucked in their game appearances, but at least The Deadly Six are pretty good in the IDW comics. Now if only Infinite was given that opportunity…
another villain I would love to see is Eggman's "children" Specifically A.D.A.M a game based around a Nanite threat would be neat also Ixis Naugus would be interesting as his backstory in the crystal prison is already enough of a concept for it's own game
Wow this was an amazing video, I was working on a similar one about sidekicks last year but gave up and hearing you get even more into depth about Snivley showed me more than I knew! SplashDash stay’s winning!
A lot of the other Archie villains along w/ Snively were actually really well written, (compared to everything in mainline sonic) I hope one day that we see a return to some of them and perhaps maybe a return of the Freedom Fighters as well
@@MILDMONSTER1234 Pre-Ian Flynn Scourge doesn’t even exist. There was just evil Sonic, Ian Flynn turned him into Scourge and gave him a personality. Also, yeah, pre-Ian Flynn stuff is sometimes hit or miss. It took time to find good writers, but when they did, the comic became amazing! As for the villains, yeah, I understand. Mephiles and Merlina were great. However, Archie simply has… more. And some of the archie villains are just as interesting as game villains, if not more. A couple of examples: Enerjak, Ixis Naugus, Scourge, Geoffrey St. John, Dr Finitevus. Btw, this is just my opinion. I just can’t help but love the archie villains.
@@TheDailyBugleJ3 Ehh, a significant portion of Flynn's Scourge _doesn't exist_ without Penders' version. Almost all of his early stories are built on the foundation of Issue 150-151, unfortunately. His infiltration of Knothole and attempts to steal the Master Emerald are the crux of everything significant from Issue 160 through to Knuxerjak. Honestly, he'd be a far better character if Flynn and co. had done the smart thing and distanced themselves from 150 as much as they possibly could, but nope, his first few appearances are direct sequels to "The One Where Evil Sonic Becomes An Attempted Rapist."
Snively lives in my heart still lol Edit: So Eggman's full name is *Dr. Julian Ivo Robotnik?* I'm assuming since Snively is Collin Jr., his dad was named Collin. Glad to see more info on these lesser-known characters!
actually its Julian Kintobor. I think, and I may be wrong here, that he changed his name to Ivo Robotnik to distance himself form his past, as his people chased him away and he was forced to allign with the Acorn kingdom for revenge.
Looking at this, I think Sonic should be given a nemesis other than Eggman or a new hostile force. Especially considering the issue that the newest villain is just a purple moon For the time being, we should increase the number of female villains Right now, only surge are likely to become regulars And as for the main topic, snively I'm sure he would have been the type of character that would have had interesting interactions with various other characters if he had been re-imported into the game.
On the topic of Eggman lackies, anyone remember Omlette. Y'know the fanmade character created based off Eggman's sprite upside down in Flying Battery Act 2 that got a bit popular. She recently came back into my mind when I was thinking about Sonic villains. I think it was an interesting idea of giving game Eggman a relative that would help him take over the world, especially since his Classic version doesn't have a dedicated lacky besides Metal. Probably couldn't have the same relationship as Eggman and Snively though considering instead of an adult man, he would be lashing out against a small girl. Obviously since she stayed in fanon nothing ever came of her but just thought I'd share considering what we're talking about.
Sally getting Roboticized was my friend's introduction to the concept of a death of a loved one. I was the only one she trusted enough to tell that this greatly upset her. When she showed me it with tears in her eyes, I said "Oh! Thank God!" I don't think she's poured her heart out to anybody like that since then

Dude I remember watching SatAM on DVD, I'm 19 now and I grew up watching that, super Mario Brothers super show and the like. But one thing that satAM got right was Jim Cummings as Robotnik and the relationship he and snivley shared. I swear it was great!
If I had the time and the knowledge I would program a fangame where it’s Snively trying to get through the first stage of Green Hill Zone. He runs at a regular human pace and he gets exhausted and will have to stop to breathe, he can only hold two rings at a time, and he takes damage every time he steps on a speed strip, hits a wall or a bumper, and will die instantly if he falls from a far enough height.
Hey. Eggman being the main villain - TWICE - of Generations is a decent twist and I stand by that. Because the game did a decent job setting up the Time Eater as the main threat. And Sonic Colours is a fun story, it's just fashionable to poop on it now because of its impact on the franchise.
@@Lukkak09 Not really. Sega officially owns the main cast of SatAM / Archie characters. Sega just always hated them because they were American made. Penders got the Archie comic cancelled. But nothing is stopping Sega from reusing them, beside their own egos.
I can’t believe that Sega only allowed Snively to exist in the Archie Comics and in one Show of Sonic the Hedgehog, and no appearance in any games. Even though he is the nephew of Dr. Eggman.
I haven’t really been playing or collecting much recently, but I always try to keep my eyes open for interesting sets like these. Really cool to see this anniversary set.
Snively was a special breed of stupid. He could have easily sold out Eggman and got rid of him, making himself a Hero but he was just as short sighted, ego driven, and needless cruel as him. Its why characters like Breezie and Mogul were smart. They just build their empires above board and get out of the super villain game all together.
On Snively being the only other Eggfam member we know, there is also Hope from the Archie Comics as well. Hope Kintober. Iirc she was essentially a kinda fun modern day living Maria that joined up with Shadow and Team Dark, cept Shadow was obviously protective of her in the present. Looking her up she is the niece of Eggman and half sis of Snively. Also Nega was eventually revealed to actually be Eggman's descendant from the future who hates him. Aaand you eventually mentioned Hope. Welp my bad for commenting before finishing.

“-and he never gave me the recognition I deserved.”
“Holy shit we’re twinning right now.”
I feel like Snively would be the one to screw him over if they were on the same side as each other.
Snively betraying Starline would go just about as well for him as his betrayals of Eggman; that is to say, "not well."
***SPOILERS FOR IDW AND ARCHIE***
(if that matters)
Eggman kept Snively alive because Snively didn't threaten him.
Twice.
@@zuresei tbf, Zavok, even though he still isn’t the best, is written infinitely better than in the games
@@zuresei To be fair, Snively is a MUCH greater threat than eggman, which Robuttnik himself agreed (Something his ego has never let him do before that point). I mean Snively almost destroyed EVERYTHING
Have no idea why it took me so long to realise this.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO GETS IT
Snively getting locked away is sinister enough and I'm all here for it
Technically, Antoine does die.
@@dannypalin9583 So people are okay with Flynn killing Antoine and not Penders killing Sally? I say don't kill any of them.
This to this day still surprises me.
If only SEGA would LISTEN!!!! 😡
Agreed, he was like the "Starscream" of Sonic and is one of my favorite Sonic comic villains that aren't Robotnik/Eggman.
It would be cool to see him again, but there will be some issues especially with the lore of sonic itself, like is he in the Archie comic dimension or not, was eggman, to the last entry sonic frontiers, a robot all this time, and so on and so forth, you see what I mean.
well the platopus villian IS kind of snibleys succesor
@@louzo5175 Well, he sucks in my book! I can come up with a better successor than that!

Wait, Snively's defeat was meant to be shocking?
@@ToaArcan It was meant to show just how truly evil Eggman was. He could've just had him go back to being his toady, but instead he left him to die.
SEGA is still allowed to use him? How come? If so then why doesn’t he appeared more often.

I do agree I wish eggman had less robot sidekicks and more organic ones. Starline from IDW is a perfect example! Just having someone there to bounce off eggmans bombastic personality that isn’t a total yes man brings out so much of both individuals.

Nice to see someone shed light on the interesting directions both the SatA.M. and Archie canons did with him.
And I also agree, Archie Sonic, despite it's weird phases, and bad issues, was still a great Sonic series, and still my favorite Sonic canon.

Honestly, Archie has lots of genuinely great villains.

Imagine a Sonic game with multiples huge stages like Mario Odyssey, each one with a IDW villain/arc it could be amazing.
The topic of this video was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Glad to see the simp king get some much-needed attention
Joking aside, Snively honestly had such an interesting dynamic with Eggman pre-reboot, one we wouldn't see again until Starline.
Good stuff.

Robotnik has been back-stabbed so many times that he can legally be considered a pincushion
I always loved reading those Sonic Archie comics as a kid! Made me wish some of those stories got adapted into the games canon.
How Snively was treated is heartbreaking in both the show and comics 😭
Poor Snively acts this way because he never had a proper family, he just needed someone to care for Snively and show him the light.
They may have sucked in their game appearances, but at least The Deadly Six are pretty good in the IDW comics. Now if only Infinite was given that opportunity…
another villain I would love to see is Eggman's "children" Specifically A.D.A.M
a game based around a Nanite threat would be neat
also Ixis Naugus would be interesting as his backstory in the crystal prison is already enough of a concept for it's own game
We need villains that don’t work for Eggman and does villainous acts for their desires rather than Eggman’s
Wow this was an amazing video, I was working on a similar one about sidekicks last year but gave up and hearing you get even more into depth about Snivley showed me more than I knew! SplashDash stay’s winning!
A lot of the other Archie villains along w/ Snively were actually really well written, (compared to everything in mainline sonic) I hope one day that we see a return to some of them and perhaps maybe a return of the Freedom Fighters as well
I dunno about that, Merlina and Mephiles are a lot better then iron queen and pre Ian Flynn scourge
@@TheDailyBugleJ3 He had personality before Flynn, it was just pretty basic.
Snively is never forgoton to me. Underrated in FanFics. Now Naugus, HE'S More Forgotten.
I’d honestly love at least some recognition of actually great characters like Sally or Snivley from SEGA.
Eggman is probably related to the General of G.U.N., iirc. He's Maria's cousin also, but idr if they're from the same side of his family
9:22 damn Snively musta made the Eggdie virus
Snively lives in my heart still lol
Edit: So Eggman's full name is *Dr.
Especially considering the issue that the newest villain is just a purple moon
For the time being, we should increase the number of female villains Right now, only surge are likely to become regulars
And as for the main topic, snively I'm sure he would have been the type of character that would have had interesting interactions with various other characters if he had been re-imported into the game.
Bringing Snively back might be redundant. Sonic already HAS an enemy who’s an evil scientist. He’d need something to set him apart from Eggman.
Thank God!"
I don't think she's poured her heart out to anybody like that since then
snively was forgotten by everyone except for the satam and archie fans
*American Sonic fans
@@iceman92211 not all american fans watch satam and read archie comics they sometimes just gamers
@@soufianegamerpro but those were created in their country and also a lot of American Sonic fans keep using those comics as answers to questions even though they have nothing to do with the games
@@iceman92211 i said not all of them not none of them

Dude I remember watching SatAM on DVD, I'm 19 now and I grew up watching that, super Mario Brothers super show and the like. But one thing that satAM got right was Jim Cummings as Robotnik and the relationship he and snivley shared. I swear it was great!
Scratch from AoStH was so cool (no biased)
2:03 “I am the fat yeti”
while i think it's a joke, "Canonical names" are only canonical in SAC (Sonic Archie Canon)
My favorite Sonic villain is Metal Sonic but Snively and Uncle Chuck need to return
Your accent made "Aid" sound like "Eat" and I was so confused why Snively was eating Robotnik.
2:32 Terrible? no Mediocre? Yes

It makes no sense becuz The Deadly Six were trapped by Eggman but Sonic freed them, They should thank and help him.
14:51 listen to this very closely.
What about it?
Listen to what she says she isn't.

YOOOO SNIVELY
Hey.
Eggman being the main villain - TWICE - of Generations is a decent twist and I stand by that. Because the game did a decent job setting up the Time Eater as the main threat. And Sonic Colours is a fun story, it's just fashionable to poop on it now because of its impact on the franchise.
Why doesn’t Sonic use the Sat AM characters anymore?
Because Sega (of Japan) is full of shit.
Ken Penders
@@Lukkak09 Not really. Sega officially owns the main cast of SatAM / Archie characters.
Sega just always hated them because they were American made.
Penders got the Archie comic cancelled. But nothing is stopping Sega from reusing them, beside their own egos.
@@ligtningdog6399 True but Sega is worried about Ken Penders.
@@Lukkak09 No they're not. Penders literally can't do anything.
Eggman: No one quite my employ unless I dismantle them first!
Cubot: It's true!
I will always see Snively as Dr. Eggmans Second in Command and a Traitor just like Megatron and Starscream
I can’t believe that Sega only allowed Snively to exist in the Archie Comics and in one Show of Sonic the Hedgehog, and no appearance in any games. Even though he is the nephew of Dr. Eggman.
Because he wasn't created by sega.
@@fightingmedialounge519 Oh
I think that the Deadly Six actually have a lot of potential as villains- but it's just that, POTENTIAL
As they are now they suck lol
