Thanks man, you gave me a big boost in confidence on using midi with this amp. The after market footswitch is so big and expensive I can't justify not buying an es-5.
Thanks so much! Spent an half hour searching for this info. Using a HX Effects and want to do the channel switching and enable FX Loop from that unit. Cheers.
Hi, I bought this amplifier too, because having an ES-8 I wanted to control the amp with the midi, but for me it was a nightmare, the two did not communicate well, in short, they did what they wanted and ... a nightmare!!! hours and hours lost, I sent the marshall and the Boss for assistance but ... nothing, they didn't want to go (updated the firmware but all useless. In the end I made the DSL 40CR and replaced it an Origin 50C, 1 channel, no midi and only sound, heaven !!!
Grazie mille dell'aiuto@@alwaysandy_
In the end I decided to completely change my mind about it, I changed the DSL40CR to an Origin 50C always marshall. 1 channel, no midi and .... pure fun. I started playing again without wasting my "relative" time in the vain search to set the midi between the amplifier and the ES-8. Thanks so much for your help. sorry, I got the translation wrong@@alwaysandy_
Hi Andy, so finally getting the dsl40cr going, i bought the 6 button footswitch but its so big i have been looking at the midi control and in particular - Disaster Area Designs ether the mini baby 3 or the DMC.microPro midi controllers not sure if you have had any experience with these? so total dinosaur when it comes to midi but its hard to live with such a large footswitch for such a simple job, cheers
Hi Andy. Great demo. I'm interested in possibly getting the DSL40CR or the DSL100HR. The vids/forums, etc. I've seen mention that the 6 button channel switcher from Marshall has latency when changing channels on the Marshall amp (I think the 2 button switch might also have the latency). There are a couple of UA-cam vids that demonstrate the latency....so it's definitely there using that 6 button channel switcher. Do you notice any latency at all using the Boss ES-5 midi switcher when switching channels/modes on the Marshall? For some songs my band does (Chili Peppers, etc.) I need to go from spanky clean to a heavy distortion and visa/versa immediately, so if there's any latency switching channels, that could be a deal breaker for me. Let me know. Great video! Very helpful. Thanks, Dan
I have an older DSL40c which has the same 4 channels, but I can tell is somewhat different than the newer CR. How are you connecting from the ES-5 to the amp? With a TRS cable or does the CR have an actual MIDI port? (the older DSL40c does not have a MIDI port)
Hi Andy. Thx for the great and very informative videos you do! I got that same amp and just Got an es-5, and an in the process of “programming” my patches, and Really want the functionality of the channel switching you just demoed.. However, I must be doing something wrong, cause I cant get it to work.. How have you connected the es-5 to the amp, When you assign channels to a patch? Via midi or by the ext ctl? Br Søren.
Hey! The channel switching is straight midi 100%. Factory reset ur foot switch and try set up (if u haven’t yet solved!) Then u know it’s sending midi normally. On the amp you don’t have to do anything. Lemme know if you can make anything happen !! Maybe a new midi cable?
hi. I was searching for some tips on how to program a foot midi programmer in other to obtain same fuctionality of PEDL-91016 for my DSL40CR. Unfortunately with this video I'm complete confuse and I didn't understand nothing in what I should do. 🤷♂️🤦♂️. For example if I want to program switch 1 in order to activate che classic channel Clean, what function I should select? Program change? and what number I should select? on Marshall manual says from 0 to 127... I'm down
Hi Andy. I'm about to buy one of these switchers. I have a question though. With the switcher, can you still send some of the pedals through FX loop and others, like OD, infront of the amp? And how do you do that? Thank you kindly for your reply and all the best toy you. Bostjan, Slovenia, Europe
Impressive. But I have one advice for your volume of video recording that I barely hear what you say when my phone volume is at a medium level, while your gutair volume is so loud. If I level up my phone volume, I can hear what you say, but the guitar playing will make a blast :p
Hey Andy, can that pedal be set up so that ONE switch can be hit and toggle between the Classic Gain and Ultra Gain channels by pressing each time? You can do that with the stock 2 button switch but not with the newer 6 button switch I don't think.
I don’t think so. That’d require one midi control switching what it sends by itself every time pressed to an alternate. Don’t see that happening. Could be wrong tho!
@@alwaysandy_ Thanks for the confirmation Andy. I kind of figured as much. I haven't worked with midi controllers in many years, but the ART one I have only seemed to do 'on' and/or possibly 'off' at the press of a switch, but not both.
I don’t know what midi data you’re sending. Figure that out then match it up to however I said they have it in the video, then you should be able to make it work.

This MIDI funtion[s] are DOPE! Now I know what the MIDI is as applied to my new amp like you have, Thank you Andy.

Sweeeeeet!!! Glad I could help man! HX like helix or??
Rookie question, from the Marshall 2 channel switch, would I be to control the hx stomp? I’m using the 4 cable method with the fx loop
@@darrelllovitt8753 not sure! Have you tried?
Just trying to work this out for my DSL40CR with an MS-3 I just got - thanks
FINALLY! A clear explanation.
Great stuff, just about to get the same amp and was looking for midi info. Thanks so much!
You’re welcome! You’ll love it!!
Why your channel doesn’t have more subscribers????? Great videos
thanks!

Yea that’s in the video. Watch it, find out.

Midi port. That’s bad luck for ya.
Would it be the same for a jvm? Also do you have to set up on the assignments on the front of the amp first?
Probably not, and no you do not. You’re selecting the individual channel 1-4 doesn’t matter what the buttons are doing.

At 13:55 they are Program Changes 1-4 for channels 1-4. Set ur pedal to send PC values 1-4 on midi channel 1 or Omni. 💥

Just cheap small ones they had in the local store or guitar center.

Can use the es 5 to control the master channels?
No not directly. But indirectly u can program *which* master is active per patch.
@@alwaysandy_ That's nice so I can have 5 different pacth combinations ?
@@triplumberelectro8611 you can have as many as ur pedal will hold. The masters are assigned to channels and you switch channels.
When I pull out the CTL1/2. The es5 does nothing at all. No midi data commands are being sent at all.
Get it settled yet?
Way too much talking. Not enough getting to the point.
Way too much typing, not enough leaving. 😂
