    Is it possible to auto shift a whammy using JUST a Boss ES-5, like Muse's Map of The Problematique, or not?
    Trying to get my head around all this, and whether if you program multiple patch midi functions on the same pedals for the same pedal / preset... it would cycle through them. I don't think Map of The Problematique would be possible without a computer, but I'm trying something that just needs 4 bars of auto pitch shifting... is it even possible to use the ES5 to control a digitech whammy like that?
    Thanks for the great content!

    Major Midi problems with my ES-5. I have attached the .bel file for my config as well as the an excel sheet that shows the results of patch change/preset change reliability to Boss customer support. I found some advice online that suggest that I should make the last midi pedal in my midi chain Channel 1 and work backwards. This offered improvements only in that the Pedal that used to be #6 and previously did not receive ANY midi commands now receives SOME midi commands. (I thought it was the Joyo Pedal, it turns out it is your pedal)
    So my 6 Pedal MIDI Chain is as follows:
    Joyo R-08 Cab Box - Last in chain - Assigned Channel 1
    BOSS OD-200 - Fifth in chain --------Assigned Channel 2
    BOSS RV-500 - Fourth in chain------ Assigned Channel 3
    BOSS EQ-200 - Third in chain -------Assigned Channel 4
    BOSS DD-500 - Second in chain-----Assigned Channel 5
    Neunaber Neuron - First in chain-----Assigned Channel 6
    Patch 1.1.1 is assigned to It's PRESET 1 for all Pedals.
    Patch 1.1.2 is assigned to It's PRESET 2 for all Pedals.
    Each time I switch back and forth between these 2 presets I get anywhere from 100% accurate to 50% accurate.

    At 1:27 you said your strymon pedals are controlled from prestets 3,4 and 5 but later you are going to channel 2 for the timeline and 1 for the mobius. Why is that?

    • @itsanthonybest
      @itsanthonybest  3 роки тому

      Each of the strymon pedals needs to be on their own midi channels. For me I put Mobius on 1, Timeline on 2, and Bigsky on 3. The reason they need to be on different channels so that changing the preset of the mobius does not also change the preset of another pedal.
      The presets that I am using is just how i HAPPENED to configure it. The presets numbers themselves are irrelevant.

    I am new to MIDI so I have a couple of questions. Excelent video btw.
    1- If the ES5 has only one MIDI controller/connector, how do you achieve controlling several pedals at once?
    2- Based on my previous question, I assume you connect the 3 Strymon pedals in chain via MIDI and then connect them as one to the MIDI connector of the ES5. If that’s the case, can I connect as a chain another pedal that is not Strymon? Let’s say a LINE 6 M5?
    Thanks in advance

      In this case I am using a 3 way midis splitter cable. This cable was custom made for me. You can however use midi thru to chain the strymon pedals together. This however can cause issues and is not as reliable.

      This board uses a 3 way midi splitter cable. You can use the midi thru connections to chain the pedals together as well.

    You can just control them with midi right.

    • @itsanthonybest
      @itsanthonybest  4 роки тому +1

      Correct The OUT of the ES5 goes to the IN of the Mobius, and then patched between the timeline and big sky. The OUT of the Big Sky then goes into the return on my volume pedal and out to the amp.
      The strymons run "post" of the ES5. They are controlled by midi. But the Audio must still be routed.

      @@itsanthonybest I see. I'm actually trying to use channel switching on my amp in tandem with the fx loop to generate different tones. For instance, a heavy rhythm tone that would involve a boost pedal into the front of my amp, then send from the fx loop of amp to an EQ and noise gate pedal, and then be able to switch to a completely different lead tone using pedals in front of the amps clean channel into stereo delay and reverb. So basically, since I'm using my amp's fx loop and changing channels, I pretty much need a stereo capable looper/switcher??? Thanks for your reply, btw.

I see this on a lot of these videos for the ES-8 and it doesn't make sense to me. The ES-8 can bring any of the 8 pedals in or out of the chain via the Loop ON/OFF config. That way you're Strymon is on fulltime, and when you press a button and flip to a different channel, nothing has to power back up. Unless there's some important reason for turning pedals off?
