I had a red 3.3T RWD. I really loved that car. Driving it was a treat everyday. I also lost count how many times people approached me to talk about the car.
Good afternoon Alanis! I didn't know much about Genesis before, but the G70 looks like a car I would consider if I was in the market for one. Reviews of older cars would be cool, my favorite car is the 1993 to 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had two of those growing up and I love them! 😁
Hi Francisco! Thank you so much 🤠🤠🤠 I’ll try to get into some older cars, but it is logistically tough - I don’t have production insurance for that, so it makes me less likely to be able to get in them! Thanks so much for watching. Hope you have a great weekend
Honestly a phenomenal car, not enough people talk about it! If only we got the shooting brake model here in North America 😢 Cavendish red is also a beautiful red. Great video Alanis!
Purchased a very lightly used 2019 G70 3.3T AWD a year ago for $25k OTD w/ trade-in. Absolutely excellent vehicle. I definitely agree that no wireless ACP/AA is a bummer, especially as there's only 1 USB that connects to infotainment. BUT, I have never had problems connecting AA instantly in both my 2019 and a loaner 2024 G70 I had for 10 days while a silly safety belt issue was remedied. For the money, *especially* used, it's hard to beat.
I bought a bigger brother of this (G80) and its a hell of a (used) bargain. I still have a fiesta ST when i want to have fun but the Genesis makes the 90% of the driving i do super comfortable.
Such a good looking car! Back in the day I loved the Hyundai Genesis coupe! They should bring it back, even as a modern RWD Hyundai coupe. I think they would crush it.
Another banger of a video. When I see the logo I always think of Chrysler. And I saw the car as a younger sibling playing dress up to look fancy and a luxury brand like the ones everyone thinks of when you say luxury vehicle. And then you through in your analogy about it and your rich aunt and I saw it in a whole new light.
Great review! And I am a huge Hyundai fan and nerd and thought I had all about it but I had never heard about the badge and grill & lights … mind blown 🤯 Thanks !!
Excellent video as always Alanis! I like to call Hyundai’s Genesis brand “the Korean Mercedes Benz” mostly because you get luxury all the way around! Just without the Mercedes price….now it’s true that you can get a Genesis speced out like a Mercedes, with the price, but I think the reliability and warranty makes it more superior in my opinion. Just one question…just how many times have you gotten stopped to ask “Why are you kidnapping yourself?” when you do that trunk test? Lol!
Ok, wireless CarPlay is nice to have but it's such a small thing compared to the rest of the car and what it offers. In my view, get the top trim 3.3 V6 and enjoy the power and features. Grab a CarPlay adapter for $40 and you're set. Such an amazing car. Great review Alanis!
Another awesome review, Hyundai/Genesis really punches above its weight. Would love it if you were able to do a review on the Elantra N and compare it to the Civic Type R and GR Corolla.
2017 G80 Owner here with a few comments. Pros - these cars ride great. Quiet, comfortable, stylish. Cockpit well laid out. Better than BMW and Mercedes IMO. Cons: poor paint quality. Expect hood, roof and mirror fading w/i 5 years. Long waits at dealership if you need anything other than basic service. Like 7 weeks to get my cruise control checked out. Expensive replacement body parts. Per body shop, one of the most expensive. Likely because there are fewer sold. Lastly - mechanical issue. My car developed a hard shifting issue. Hyundai TSB - replace transmission. Only problem- dealer has to experience issue too, and mine is intermittent. I so want to upgrade to a more current model, but these issues make me lean toward Honda or Toyota because I keep my cars at least 10 years.
Yeah, the lack of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is quite annoying. I swapped the head unit in my 2009 Saturn Sky and now it's more advanced than the one in my 2024 Toyota Sienna which requires me to do wired🙃
I have really enjoyed my 2019 G70 over the past 4 years. Albert Biermann from BMW's M division had a leading role in the development of the car, and it shows: the G70, is nearly identical in interior dimensions (front and rear legroom is within an inch, wheelbase within 1/4 inch, just shortened overhangs on the G70), curb weight, and (real world) power to the E39 530i. This car has made the 400+ mile work trips an absolute breeze, and the lane keep assist really helps with fatigue on the highway. My sole complaint being the tuning of the 4 cyl with the manual transmission, it punishes even slightly aggressive shifts by pulling power for several seconds, and power delivery is lumpy throughout the rev range. These issues are non-existent on the automatic.
It's too bad you didn't get the 3.3 awd, it drives a lot better. You are right about the road trip quality, in 2022 I drove g70 3.3t awd from Canada to San Diego on the PCH, with my 2 daughters and camping gear, and it performed very well.
According to Genesis 2025 model year changes, Wireless CarPlay should be available for the GV70 and electric GV70. Hopefully that means the G70 should get it as well?? I do agree that a luxury brand like Genesis should already have that feature implemented since basic brands have for years (my '21 Chevy has it).
Wired, although being replaced by wireless, is the preferred audio connection for listening to high qualify music, i.e. Tidal, so I don't miss it in my G70 and I use a short cable so that phone and cord fit into the recessed area under dash in console. I can see every angle, including distance from the curb at both ends, when I park even though I will cycle between the various view buttons in the process....I think maybe it's because the model u test here is not the top package....Otherwise, glad u enjoyed this more than competitive offering in the sport performance luxury segment.....
G70 appears to be a relative bargain, love some of colors they offer (they had a great green color in the past). Admittedly I hear more positives about Giulia and 3 series sedans, but they are not as well equipped as the G70.
Related... the G70 and the Kia Stinger are basically twins. I had a (gorgeous red!) 2018 Stinger GT AWD with the 3.3 twin turbo and I currently have a (steathly black) 2022 Stinger RWD with a 2.5 single turbo. You are correct that the speed of the 2.5l doesn't hit like a hammer. Not like my old red car. However... I chose to downgrade for a reason. The GT only took premium gas and got 300.00 miles on a tank. If I drove it like a granny on the highway, I could get 325 miles. The new car with the four cylinder does not!! take premium and I have gotten as many as 435 miles on a tank. Read that again. 135 more miles on a tank. So is it so fast? Nope. Do I like living with it? I sure do. So what I like is I get all the chassis dynamics of the fast version, I get to carve corners and scare passengers like the old days, but not with the straight line speed. Plus, switching from 6 cylinders to 4 and deleting the front wheel drive portion of the drivetrain removed about 400 pounds almost all from the front axle so the steering on the "junior" car is so much more sublime that the fast version car. Some upgraded tires and lighter wheels and the steering is dy-no-mite!!! I do miss the Brembo brakes and I really am thinking of buying some take-offs from a GT and applying those to my current car. (I also have some KWs coilovers and some Eibach bars to install already. The Apple car play cord? Eh. I don't mind. I have a short USB-C in the dash, I plug in my phone and set it in the little slot and I never think of it. I've never had a car with wireless Android Auto so I really don't know what I'm missing. I do have a big problem with my 2022 Stinger versus the 2018. I assume this applies to the car you drove, too. The stereo! One big, major problem right in the middle of the dash. There is a speaker above the screen that is tuned to the human voice. It's really meant for phone calls and navigation which makes sense that the crossover built into these speaker favors the human voice!- but for reasons unknown to me, that speaker is up at full volume during music. So in essence, you get the vocals literally blasting against the glass and into the front seat passengers' faces and all the over music is overpowered by it. Imagine going to a concert and the person next you is reading the lyrics of the songs so loud, you really can't hear the show. I have to fade the speakers waaaaaay to the back seat to get sound balance. it's really rotten. Especially for any rear seat passengers if they are along for the ride, cuz they're getting blasted. My 2018 was not tuned this way. This seems like something that Hyundai and/or Kia could fix with a software update, but so far, they choose not to.(Oh, I've sent emails!!) Of every thing I could complain about, I would disconnect that speaker if I could. Of grab a generic volume knob and quiet it WAAAAY down.

I still don't like the Genesis brand. It is a value brand trying to be a luxury brand. Like vegetables pretending to be meat, looking at you Beyond Meat! Either offer more options for the Hyundai cars or design and therefore price up a better Genesis. Luxury is an aspirational purchase, not a budget friendly option. Nice review.
Nice to know I'm not alone in this! I know a poser-lux car when I see one. The strategy seems to be to make sure it looks great on the lot, with no regard for how the materials will hold up. It makes sense - but it's a nihilistic approach to cars. Anti-German, even.

@@AlanisKinghaha sounds all right to me!
Thank you so much for watching! If you haven't been in a Genesis, I recommend checking one out. You might change your mind. They're very cool
Nice to know I'm not alone in this! I know a poser-lux car when I see one. The strategy seems to be to make sure it looks great on the lot, with no regard for how the materials will hold up. It makes sense - but it's a nihilistic approach to cars. Anti-German, even.
@AlanisKing challenge accepted!
@@channeljaredYou gotta drive it though. It’s a lot better than you think
