Thank you guys so much for the little shout out ❤⛵️ So glad we can all band together when 💩 hits the fan to help each other out during scary moments. You have been a wealth of knowledge for years via UA-cam, and now recently as we’ve been cruising the same areas. SV DELOS IS THE REAL DEAL YALL🎉
Never sailed before something is calling me to that life style saving money to buy a boat next year any advice on how I can start learning or where to learn sailing Never even been on a boat before
I'm not a sub, but I catch random of your videos from time to time. The smile from Siera when that popup toy let loose I think is the biggest cutest smile i've seen on a little kid in a long time. Love those eyes. And that "woo hoo" omg!
Brian, your natural gut instinct as a sailor has always gotten you guys out of jams, if I was at sea in these conditions I would feel MUCH SAFER with YOU at the HELM! Listen to that inner voice that has brought you this far, you got this!!🤙
my land-locked gut (protruding gut) tells me that Brian should serve Karin ribeyes religiously to put some meat on her frame. this upload shows that our hard-working lovely Swedish mommy lost a lot of what little mass she had during her bout with illness. we all love her & seeing her go through that was terrible for all.
After a day of hard work, a cold beer, Ramukanji and a brand new Delos episode are the best start to the weekend! Your videos are educational and heartwarming and if I weren't poor, I'd become a patreon for sure. Please never stop being you!
BTW, You guys are heroes to WE Sail. Erica and Warren love you guys and you are their inspiration. A group decision is sometimes a better decision as you can logically walk through the pros and cons. I don't think I would have been able to sleep. You both are rockstars. On a separate note, my wife cannot believe that I have been watching your vids for 11-12 years now. Thanks for allowing me to follow you around this big blue marble
It really is amazing, I too have been a long time follower and through todays technology and from the Hard work and heart of Brian, Kazza and the Delos Tribe. I feel as if I too have traveled with them on their journeys. I have seen many different cultures across the world, it's inspiring and amazing how people are so adaptable to the regions they live in. I am forever grateful for the Delos Tribe, they have taken me on quite an adventure from the safety of my home. lol maybe one day that will change and I will be on Night watch for Brian and the crew 🤙 Namaste!
Super hard to watch your dilemma on whether to go to San Carlos or not. I know this episode just aired, but it was weeks ago. I have groups of friends that live there and have retired there, and could walk to the marina and have them call you... In fact there's two marinas. I've actually looked at buying a boat that is there. The marina and the little bay are amazing and quite protected and would be a great home base for full timers. Okay now, I'll watch the rest of this episode and see how it shook out for you guys. I just know the feeling having been through several hurricanes in my life. Including a cat 5.
Trusting your instincts, bound with the best knowledge available at the time, and hoping/praying your decisions were right for your family and Delos. 🙏 Great job, Captain. 👏
Fantastic video of the drama that sometimes goes along with sailing. At about 3:45 though, Kazza describes a situation that she could get really stressed out about. No, you don’t have to apply stress at all, it is a CHOICE. You can look at the situation an work out what you can do about it and do it, or you can stress about it, which does nothing to alleviate the situation. Once you adopt this approach, dealing with difficult situations gets much easier. But the critical deal here is to REALIZE STRESS IS A CHOICE. That changes everything.
Appreciate the videos and the time it takes to compile, know the reasons for the UA-cam delay in the timeline. But some reference to the date line in the caption or details would make understanding the weather easer to relate to today and how far in the past it is. keep on sailing.
Man I know that stress all too well. On the east coast this year we had Fiona hit us hard in Nova Scotia. I was so stressed out about my sailboat, she was in a marina extra line, fenders, sails and all canvass removed. We were sure we might lose our boat, we new it was coming right at us. The boat afterwards was fine, not even a scratch, our house had part of the roof ripped off, every tree in neighborhood down. Our house is gutted being repaired and have not lived there since September, but my family is safe and my boat survived, perfect. Glad you are safe!
I think you guys sailed into hurricane's armpit this season. When I was a kid I got a piece of a crayon stuck in my nose but I never ate one. I'll stick to eating tater tots, thanks Sierra. 👍💛
Here in Daytona I've been through 10, winds varied between 50-100 mph sustained at about 75-90 for hours. About 3 miles from the coast but we are on land. cannot imagine what it's like on board. Glad you are OK. Narure, gotta love it.
What a nice suprise to find that care basket left on your stern. Sierra eating her crayons is too funny. My grandaughter used to eat her playdough at that age. They will eat that stuff and then turn their noses up at vegatables - go figure.
I've learned after 40 years of living in southwest Florida is to prepare for the worst and ride it out, cause mother nature is going to do what it does. You made the best safest choice that you could do for the family . Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Im having flashbacks to September when I rode Ian out on a Mooring Ball in Key West. I reckon we had very similar experiences. We saw gusts up to 80 and I witnessed plenty of boats breaking loose from their moorings through the night, along with red and green flashes from blowing transformers on shore. When I woke up the next morning I could see glowing fire and smoke from a fire on Flagler Ave, and 12 boats on Fleming Key.
San Carlos was a sweet spot, but by now you probably know it wasn't that great at holding in the bay. I hauled my boat in guaymas for the hurricane season one year. Nice facility there. Santa Rosalia would have been one option too, tucked into the marina nearest the entrance of the basin. The floating docks took a beating from TS JIMENA in 2011?
Nice kliffhanger...curious what happened to the stranded ships. Most ships will survive a storm at sea, the biggest threat is running aground. I have been in a force 12 storm near Norway, a rollercoaster ride for 24 hrs but the 35ft Granada had no damage. The waves were massive like dunes. Looking forward for part 2!
When something heavy is rushing towards you it is good practice to get out of its way rather than trying to escape from it running in the same direction. Happy to see you've made it.
When I saw this oh my Lord I was so scared like if I was there with y’all love all you guys that baby she’s like my babybooboo n so ready to explore life 🎉 thank u Lord😊😊
Super well done. I’m sure it was the right decision. Boy did you look anxious and tired. For once I wouldn’t like to have traded places. Looking forward to seeing part 2. 🎉🎉❤❤❤
I can't imagine making decisions when the stakes are this high. I guess that is what is at the heart of adventure. Doing dangerous things as safety as possible. Keep sailing love your videos stay safe.
My husband and I were talking about hurricanes while watching your video. A good thing is that you have the chance to move your house. We live in Louisiana. We don't. We have to wait and pray. Glad that you two make good choices and move. Fair winds and stay safe!
Well you just fractured the myth that Cruising is all fun and giggles, Just sail around, stop where and when you want, do some diving and laying on beautiful beach's. Nothing to do but have a good time followed by even better times. Boring having just great times everywhere every day. Well it looks like there is some measure of REAL world issues and decisions. Thanks for showing the other side of cruising. Love the adventure Thanks.
I probably shouldn’t be watching this as we ride out a cold front in Eleuthera, Bahamas on our little catamaran but at least we don’t have it as bad as that hurricane!
I know you all are safe and back on Delos starting a new season but sheeew this video had me teary eyed! Even though we have never met I feel like y'all are my family 🥰 Safe travels ❤️ Amber B Kentucky
Realizing all is well, still watching these type of videos of ya'll make me anxious as hell. It's like watching your own kids having trouble and you can't get to them to help. Take care.
This video brought back a lot of memories for me... Watching that boat go aground - seeing it rise on the crest of a wave then drop into the trough and stopping suddenly with a shudder (the thud of your keel bottoming out is unforgettable, my heart was suddenly in my throat as that sensation rippled through me, even after 54 years and 8 days)... The shots from Basil, the spindrift, the haze created as the wind whips water into the air... Yeah, memories... Your shots of the San Carlos entrance, you talked about it looking like white water... I would love if you would insert a narrative into a coming video that explains the difference of the swell/wave formations in lakes and Seas (like Cortez) that have no basis in ocean swell... How the period is shorter and the faces are steeper Love what you do...
Where is calico sky in all of this aren’t they your buddy boat ? seem odd that you barely mention them cause your communication with them is always interesting
You two have gotten so damn good at filming/editing these dramatic episodes. Any Hollywood or indie filmmaker setting a film set on a similar sized yacht (All is Lost, Mercy, Dead Calm) would be nuts not to hire you as consultants.
I did one hurricane in 1955 but not the full force. It wasn't bad at all. Of course I was on a 27K ton aircraft carrier. Don't want to even think about doing it in 50' sailboat even if it is at anchor in a protected area. Hang in there Delos.
Thanks for sharing guys. Be careful, be safe. Take care, all the best, and God bless. A retired North Pacific, Bering Sea, and West Coast fisherman, and survivor. ✝️🙏🇺🇸🗽🌩💨🌬️🌊⛴⚓️
The East side of any Northern hurricanes 🌀 or typhoons is the worst side of these types of storms. In my 60 years of my life living in Louisiana and experiencing every major hurricane in the past 60 years we've always managed to get on the western side of the hurricane and was able to survive it..
Keep trusting your instincts Brian they have served you well even with the added responsibility second guessing decisions is natural but once an initial decision is made commit to it. Good job of protecting Sierra from your worries.
Sierra is so cute, Daddy don't, she .must be a handful at times but so cute you just laugh. We remember our daughter at that age, so full of curiosity. Can't wait to see the resolve to this cliff hanger We Love cruising the Cortez, so many places to explore. See ya next week.
Reminds me of of my experience with Super Storm Sandy. I was on a Fall cruise and was anchored up by Nyack New York in the Hudson River. Made the decision to head back to the home port and mooring on Long Island before it hit the area. Got back the day before the storm hit. Did my hurricane prep and left the boat hoping for the best. After the storm I found the boat a thousand feet from where I left it still floating and still attached to the mooring. Happily no damage except for the drowned outboard when the dingy got flipped over at the dingy dock. Had to use a grappling hook to find it.. :)
I would think that the East side of the Sea of Cortez would offer some leeward shelter. As well as being outside of the cone of probability. But, I'm just Monday morning quarterbacking. It is very smart to gather as much info as possible, like you did. Information is power.
Hope everything turned out alright for you all (will have to wait until next week). Just wanted to say that every Friday I look forward to hearing Sieria's little "Woohoo!" on her bike at the end of every video!
I have a house in Baja west of San Carlos and had 3 weather events in the last six years. My house came thru with out much damage ,it's the roads that get washed out ,no fuel, no electricity (I'm off grid) , food and emergency services that can devastate an area that last week's to months after the storm passes.
I home ported in San Carlos for a coupe of years. Went through a couple of storms there. Once anchored and once in the marina. Nice town. Lots of marine facilities there. Marina Seca good for haul out. Diving is OK but not great. Good luck. We never drug in the anchorage. Can be very hot and humid in summer. Keep it safe for that little cutie.
Commercial fishing in Alaska there are times in a hard blow when we have to sit up all night and jog up on our anchor rode to ease tension and prevent drag. God bless you guys that’s stressful i feel it from here.

Hallo Deloscrew, es ist immer wieder faszinierend eure Videos zu schauen. Ihr macht das wirklich sehr professionell. Weiter so! Wünsche euch weiterhin alles gute und eine handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel.
I've been through 5 hurricanes . David in Florida 1979, hurricane hugo, 1989 ,Bonnie 1998, and floyd 1999 in Nc. 1980 hurricane Allen in San Antonio Texas. Lost cars , flooded homes however we lived through them all.
I've lived through three hurricanes. If I never see another one that will be just fine. Your able seamanship brought your through this potential catastrophe. Job well done.
Great job getting to a safer anchorage. And hopefully you will weather the storm well. Not sure a good luck is proper here, but well, yanno...see ya on the flip side delos.
Yes these hurricanes are a big problem at sea. Facing strong winds at anchor even more. The pitching motion pulls at your anchor and the rolling motion of the waves pull at your chain. If the anchor can not settle and rest youre doomed. Using the engine can help in strong winds to take away a little stress from the chain as long as you stay behind it. But by what ive seen you know how to play this little dangerous game well. Keep save!
Storm tactic question. Obviously Nugget can get stowed in a locker below decks. But, with Kaza, wrap her in anchor chain to keep her from blowing away or lash her to the mast?
Thank you guys so much for the little shout out ❤⛵️

Sierra’s “Woo-hoo!” has to be the same epic video ending as Karin’s “wrong throat” wich still cracks me up every time I see it. As for Brady’s “wrap”

That hard deck sure looks good!!!! Call Brady and see if he wants to hold down the fort for awhile!
it continues to be a complete privilege to watch you Brian, all be well XxX
A hurricane is frightening on land so I can’t imagine what you go through at sea. Praying you will be safe!
I would think that the East side of the Sea of Cortez would offer some leeward shelter. As well as being outside of the cone of probability.
But, I'm just Monday morning quarterbacking.
It is very smart to gather as much info as possible, like you did. Information is power.

Re: the 'general rule' of 5:1 when anchoring, make it 10:1 in a storm. If you can. You can add a rope rode to the end of your chain, for example.
Thanks
Great job getting to a safer anchorage. And hopefully you will weather the storm well. Not sure a good luck is proper here, but well, yanno...see ya on the flip side delos.
