Funny, true classical music story: Mrs. Strauss asked Brahms to autograph her fan. He did--writing a few bars of the Blue Danube on it with the inscription: "Unfortunately, not by Johannes Brahms" No one could ever accuse Brahms of not having a sense of humor--or admiring the gifts of other fellow composers.

I FIRST HEARD IT - in 1963, as a young boy spinning his parents vinyl, laying on my back on the carpeted floor, eyes closed, floating.... BEFORE any of the associations with other cultural icons such as "Mr. Bean at the Dentist", or "2001..." - just the pure Strauss and my own unadulterated young mind.
I would recommend such an experience for children today, when they are 4 or 5 years old... It was as beneficial for my mental development as the acid trips in my teens were. [have they declared a "War on Classical Music" yet?]
....but then I would recommend keeping children away from the TV until age 5, so I am a dinosaur I suppose. But Beethoven, Strauss, Tchaichovsky and of course BACH would surely inspire more neural connections than 12 minutes of advertisements per half hour of violent puppetry.

    • @ChipmunkLaurenn
      @ChipmunkLaurenn 10 років тому +5

I didn't have to be worried about staying away from the T.V until the age of five because at five is when I could finally start hearing. By the time I was five I could start remembering events so I remember the first time I could hear myself say a word...turned out that that word was "backpack" from Dora. I'm glad I can hear now because since the time I could hear I listened to classical music, it was among my favorites.
I was born in 1999 but luckily I had an childhood that remained unscathed by today's technology. I can't imagine having had a childhood with a phone in front of my face at all times. That's why I don't have one now either.

This was one of the first classical pieces I really listened to in its entirety. I was 13, and 10 minutes was considered to be way too long for just one "song". But I just couldn't stop. I guess I have Johann Strauss Jr to blame for enjoying almost every waltz by every composer. This waltz was also one of the best parts of Kubrick's 2001, but not only by itself, naturally also because of how it was used in the film. Great pieces of art work well together, even if one is film and the other music.

ever since I was a kid I always loved listening to classical music, and I also like listening to some oldy music you know stuff from the 60's 70' s 80's & 90's. I also like music composed from movies (John Williams, Danny Elfman, Randy Edleman, etc) but I can't stand rap. The other day in work the guys who work in receiving had a radio on and were listening to rap, finnally I couldn't take it I turned it off. And before you ask none of them were around when I turned it off.

I adore this ever since I could remember. I heard this magnificent piece of music in an MGM cartoon of 1939 called The Blue Danube and fell in love with it ever since. I used to whistle the entire thing for real of course my mouth would hurt after that or I would dance around in the room or pretend to be a violinist and play as the music played. Eh Childhood what can I say. Thanks for the upload!

The first time you hear this you can't stay still. I don;t know how all those people in that music hall back in 1867 managed to remain calm and civilised when they first heard this. A wall of sound, a melody that feels so natural that you feel as if you knew it before you heard it.

1:40 I imagine a scene of a soccer game in slowmo where the ball just keeps hitting the bar, bouncing off, hits the bar again, until it finally goals. Comedic, and a bit dramatic because you imagined it in slow motion

It's so weird to me how 90% of these comments are calling this piece a song.
    From Webster's,
Song: a short piece of music with words that are sung
I get the feeling that 90% of humans forget about this definition

      +Cube-alig From Oxford: "
      Song : ...
(1.2) A musical composition suggestive of a song.
      Example sentence:
He composed some 700 songs, which makes him one of the most prolific song composers since Schubert."
Plus all the great linguists of history have understood language is alive, the point of it is to communicate, not to enforce like a law. "Song" has developed as a catch all term for any separated length of music, under which come the further detailing words, such as ballad, sonnet, bolero, waltz, heavy metal instrumental, whatever.

This is the rare music that can stayed fine tune at all times in such long playing timing, no other music can stayed fine tune in such long time, either nice in short period, or come with least fine tune in long period!
