@@heresalemonsukonit276 - did you watch the 1986 and 1993 finals? That is the closest a goalie will ever come to single handedly winning a cup, it’s not meant to be taken literally btw.
i played infield in Little League, the '93 run by Patrick Roy was a joy to watch & the 9:45 quote is about not hearing due to Stanley Cup Rings plugging his ears is a classic... fax!!!
As a wings fan, even I have so much respect for him. Didn’t necessarily always like him lol but I think I do now. Avs should thank the wings for chasing him outta Montreal. (If you know ur avs history, they use to play as the Quebec Nordiques . A team that HATED the habs.) So the wings stole the best goalie in the world from the avs old rival and gave him to them.
@@milieu675 I agree. It wasn’t just hockey, it was must watch tv. You cancelled plans just to watch these two teams. Even fans from other teams did that. Best rivalry I’ve ever seen
@@pianotalent6437 and to think, all that for the Campbell Trophy. Not even the Cup. They dominated the mid 90's and early 2000's together. Dominated. Yeah, Jersey and Dallas, but the era is remembered for the Avs/Wings.
There was the time Roy trashed coach Hartley's office post-game because he pulled him unnecessarily in his mind (and he had a point). Imagine an enraged 6'2" Patrick Roy, in full kit, mask and all, roaring in full-auto French while he completely demolishes two TVs and a VCR with a goalie stick. Absolutely terrifying.
Oh wow. I didn't know about this. Incredible how this is not the first time it happened to Hartley, like when Torts tried to get to him while being pulled back by players 🤣
One thing NHL teams cannot afford to do is judge a junior league goalie by his stats, especially in the Quebec league. I've never found out which scout of Montreal's discovered Roy and suggested they pick him but obviously, whoever it was he was a genius and saw more than physical talent. Roy was coachable, which is a problem for a lot of pro athletes and he refined his game and actually got better over the course of his career. In fact, his final two seasons were among his best from a statistical point of view. It's a shame he didn't play another year or two.
I couldn't stand Tremblay as a player ,and he was worse as a coach. What a joke to let Patrick walk out , they should have fired Mario the truttle. I am and always will be a habs fan that tore my heart out . Like I say Roy was the best, and to let him go was a bad mistake, should have fired # 14 that night what a joke Tremblay is and was .
Should have won the vezina in 88 and 02. Also not only will nobody win 3 conn smythes but he won 3 in 3 different decades. Hes the only player to win multiple cups for multiple teams in 2 different conferences in 2 different decades. His 96 finals of only 4 goals in 4 games on 151 shots is still the best statistical finals by a goalie of all time. Plus no one will touch his playoff wins record. Ppl call hasek the best but remeber hasek had a coach of the year ted nolan, selke winner mike peca, 40 goal scorer miro satan, and zhitnik who was arguably a top 10 dman in the league. Roy did in montreal what hasek couldnt do in buffalo. Hasek went to the finals once with buffalo and lost. Roy went to the finals 3 times with the habs and won twice winning the conn smythe two times. Roy is not only the goat of goaltending but arguably the goat of hockey. Remeber he won his cups during the Lemieux and Gretzky eras. Also fun fact Patrick Roy and Mario Lemieux are born on the exact same day and same year, literally miles apart from each other.
I was a Montreal fan, then an Avs fan. I never was a red wings fan, but man, that's a hell of a good organization. When hockey was great. The 90's and 2000's. Sakic/Yzerman, Forsberg/Shanahan, Roy/Vernon. On and on. By the way, great to see Vernon in the HOF. Well deserved.
Thank you for bringing up the cheap hit on Adam Foote. Nobody usually brings it up that those dirty, cheating Red Wings started all that shit with a cowardly play
All us goalies are crazy and arrogant. Comes with the territory. You have to be nuts to stand in front of a vulcanized piece of rubber traveling upwards of 100 miles an hour. And who wouldn't think themselves a God after doing such things
Roy was pretty damn good and very competitive but not as good technically as other goalies like Belfour and Irbe. The whole point of his style was to make you shoot for the five hole but he often couldn’t close it in time
You are putting Roy at a perspecrive where he thought he was better than others.... He knew he was better than most, and he earned it. Roy EARNED the titwly of being better than most. I watched him live in Denver during MANY games in 95 and 96, and at his older age, he was still a bad ass, and he earned 33!!! Im currently 38 and I'll never forget Patrick Roy. He was a GREAT. I currently have a home photo of him crashing with Ricci, and still blocking the goal... It's up on my wall. Roy is the GOAT Still can't believe I lived in the same neighborhood as him in 95...I used to ride my scooter to try to get a glimpse of him.... But them we moved to a DTC condo, and it was just some new buck for the Broncos that lived in the same complex as us. Meh.
Greatest goalie in NHL history and one of the most clutch players in North American sports history
Became a Roy fan that first year he single handedly won the cup in Montreal. My favourite player ever, I quit watching hockey when he retired.

To have a 1.93 GAA back in the day is insane.
That's because he didn't have to face #69 M.Chan
The reason I wore 33 back in the day. Legend
One of the best in history.

The Avs and Wings were perfect for each other. It didn't seem like it at the time, but they were great together, and good for the whole league.

What a great era for goaltender and then you add guys like Eddie Belfour on Curtis, Joseph, among others, will definitive era for modern goaltender

Great job keta!

No, he did not win the Calder trophy as the rookie of the year. He did, however, win the Calder Cup as the AHL champion. The names are too confusing.
Roy was a bigger fan of Dan Bouchard than Rogie
Tremblay ruined the Canadians..
That's what both my mom and dad always told me, even over 3 decades after the 93 cup run. They're still angry to this day about Tremblay.
