So great! You’re definitely my favorite drummer on UA-cam ❤️🔥✊
Wow!! That means a lot to me. Thanks for the support 😃🙌
Definitely remember struggling with rimshots at first. It's fun and all the worthwhile once you master them! Great and methodical man
Thanks, bud!! 😃
Great explanation and execution of this exercise 🤟 thanks for sharing!!
Glad you like them!!
Funny Story, I play drums for about 19 years now, but always for myself, just jamming along to my favourite songs. I never recorded myself and just recently joined a band. Now we record stuff and I realized I NEVER play rimshots. I am a centerhitter only, which means: my snare sound is quite soft in the recordings. Now I am trying to implement rimshots in my playing to get a more cutting and articulated sound on the records.
The good thing about rimshots is once you've learned it - you can't unlearn it.
It's not necessary for EVERY genre you play, but it's definitely a must-know. It was different 60 years ago when bands recorded all instruments live at once in the studio, and the drummer couldn't play too loud to drown out the other instruments.
I needed to see this to better execute my rim shots thank you!
Happy to help out!!😃
I've just started playing rimshots, still very much inconsistent but I also haven't warmed up to the sound and sensation yet. I've been playing without them for years already so it's hard for me.
Just take it one baby step at a time, buddy! After a while, you'll be able to play them in your sleep!😃
@@ThatSwedishDrummer most definitely. Appreciate that maaaan 🙏🏽
Fyfan ikväll är vi starkast! 💪
Awesome Lesson 👌 How Amazing does your Snare drum sound 😀 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 🥁 🤩 🙌
Thanks, Jay! Glad you enjoy it, buddy 😃
Been trying for a few years now to get them consistent, but not quite there yet. Really not quite sure why, but there's obviouslsy something technique wise I'm doing wrong at times. And there's the height thing, as my arms are quite long relative to the rest, so I'm having to set the snare a bit lower than I'd like to. Hopeully I'll figure it out sometime soon.
I love this lesson, thank you for sharing
So glad you like it! Cheers 🙌
Definitivt min favorit trummis
Stort tack, Viggo!

Thank you kindly!!
@@ThatSwedishDrummer You're very welcome. Much love.❤️
Fantastic! Solid explanation 💥💥💥
🙌🔥
My question is does it not detune the snare and cost a fortune in sticks? BADDASS tone.
A quality snare drum with good heads hold its tuning long and well. Plus, sticks are supposed to break.
If you’re not breaking sticks - you’re not playing dynamically enough 😉
Cheweed up thos sticks suuuuper fast 😂
Stadigt och bra!
👊🔥
Thanks what drum head is that sounds amazing
Remo coated Ambassador on the snare, coated Emperors on the toms 🤗
Thanks buddy! Well done video ✌️😊
🔥thanks!!🔥
Thanks for the lesson,great info
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching 😃
I always struggled with rimshots at first, because I thought you were supposed to hit the rim and head at the same time.
Well, that's what it is haha 😃
Did Ian Paice use rimshots when he played burn studio version? What do you think?
Yeah!
✊💪
✊✊✊pow!!

It hurts my ear, the rim shot does. Have to wear ear plugs. But, I like it...a lot!
Dude you should ALWAYS use ear protection when you’re playing drums!
Long sleeves help you gauge the attack angle. Maybe a loose shirt or jacket. Don't ask me exactly what is going on here besides the fact that the sleeve touches the stick and moves the hair on your forearm.
Another way to cheat at rimshots is to lower the drum and let your hand stop at the leg. The stick will fall at the same angle every time. I see people doing it a lot when showboating. It can promote bad posture but not necessarily.
I wouldn’t recommend that. I used to have the snare lower when I was younger and ended up getting bruises on my left thigh all the time.
And long sleeves when playing… I mean, everyone’s different, but in my experience the sleeves has been more in the way than help my playing in anyway. I prefer short sleeves so the stick can’t get stuck in anything
