I work at a Toyota engine plant. The gasket on the head cover of the A25A is a rubber gasket. The “silicone” gasket, we call FIPG is applied tothe 4, 3 point areas where the 2 timing chain covers are bolted to the front of the engine.
Every 5000k miles is normal for new vehicles. The rule of thumb is whatever the manufacturer recommendation is, slice that number in half. That is the number you go with for your maintenance.
I am a retired automotive engineer. The car company I worked for told their dealers, "If a car comes in that is still under warranty and you determine it needs a new engine, you are required to take a sample of the engine oil and send it into our labs for testing. If we determine that the wrong engine oil was in the engine their engine will not be covered under warranty and the customer will have to pay for the new engine." So if you really feel that a different motor oil is better for your car you might want to wait till the engine is out of warranty.
Great video and a very interesting topic. I wasn’t aware of the variable oil pressure and ‘just in time’ design of the oil flow. I love changing the oil, which I do myself of course. It’s like therapy and meditation.
Also if you do short trips, or the weather is hot or cold, this is considered hard use and they recommend an earlier change. Cheap insurance to make your car last longer
Yes you are right i do the same thing as you i always do my oil change on my car early i owned a 2009 matrix 2.4 a lot of people complaining about oil sludge on the 2.4 litre but my matrix never burns oil because some people do oil change very late that is the reason burning oil i always do oils change early what manufacturing said now i owned a 2022 venza hybrid i do oil change early too thanks for your video take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
I’m retired and drive 2k a year short and long distances. I change my oil every 4-5k or every two years. I use the 0-16 oil Toyota tells me to use. To me it’s better to change oil sooner than 10K. Don’t sweat the sealant Toyota uses to seal the valve cover, way too early to worry about stuff like that.
Approaching 35k miles on my wife's '21 RAV4. The car is leased and we might end up keeping it. I've done 5k mile oil changes since new, 0W-16 always with a good quality filter. 0W16 is usually not on sale but this is the only oil I put in the engine. Never have to add oil between changes, and the engine runs smooth.
I don't even have a rav4, but I am watching your videos 😂. I have a 22' WRX and I change my oil every 3-4k miles even though the manual calls for every 6k miles.
The Toyota Owners Manual states: "If SAE 0W-16 is not available, SAE 0W-20 oil may be used. However, it MUST be replaced with SAE 0W-16 at the next oil change." "An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions." To me, you can use 0W-20 oil for a (10K oil change), then you MUST change back to 0W-16, and that one with a higher value may be better suited, like you are towing or mountain driving. So I am using 0W-20 for the summer (April-Oct), then changing back to 0W-16 in the winter, (Oct-Apr) change it every 5K or 6 Months.
I agree with your reasoning, I live in Texas, and I decided to switch it to 0W-20 because it's mainly used on the highway with extreme hot summer and it's usually always carrying 4 passengers. I will go back to the 0W-16 for the fall/winter months. Also I change mine ever 7k miles on my 2022 Rav4 LE.
Just waiting for my new RAV4 next week 😍 I always change the oil each 5000 km or 6 months whatever happen first, my country is small so no much millage between cities.
I also change every 5k or every 6 months. Use the 16w as per specs. The OEM oil has extra additives and someone actually sent to test the oil and it had less wear materials in it vs other oils.
This is great. I change my oil every 5,000-7,000 Kms or every spring/summer and fall/winter at least, 2 oil changes for me a year on my gas XA50 Rav4. And there is some oddball oil changes like if we dip below -45C I change the oil after a month and when after long road trips like totalling to 3,500Kms, I do the oil change after those. The bad thing is the dealer, every time I set an appointment for an oil change they will argue with me that it’s too early and worst part is they sometimes cancel my appointment. I told them that I wanted to keep my engine running for a long time and if something breaks, you guys wouldn’t have the part for it and a new engine and install is like $13,000-$16,000. My old car manufacturer recommended 10,000-12,000kms changes which I followed. When the car reached 14 years old, there was a lot of sludge and gunk built up under the valve cover which caused my eccentric shaft gear to have bad wear marks and a VANOS solenoid clogged up. They said that if you live in wintery conditions or high humidity areas and running short daily drives, the engines isn’t yet in full operating temperature causing moisture to still get trapped inside the engine gradually degrading the oil and eventually causing it to sludge. So frequent oil change it is for me! Great video! keep up the good work!
It's not too thin if it's in the manual. If you want the best 0w-16 it's Amsoil Signature Series 0w-16 it will be good for 15k miles of city driving with an Amsoil Filter.
I believe Toyota says to use 0W16 strictly for fuel economy standards and political correctness. I use 0W20 in Winter and 0W30 in Summer. I also change it between 4,000-5,000 miles. The motor quiets down nicely with the viscosities I use. I feel well protected.
Toyota manual says you change oil every 10K miles under certain conditions., which most of us don't fall into that category The manual also says you should change your oil every 5K miles if it doesn't meet these conditions.
I fully agree with the break-in. Oil changes. I have always stuck to 6000 km oil changes on every vehicle I’ve ever owned, and never had an engine/oil related issue. Manufactures are not motivated to keep your car on the road for any longer than the warranty period. 10,000 km oil changes Will most definitely keep your vehicle on the road for a warranty period, But if you want to hold onto that vehicle much longer, don’t follow manufacturer suggestions. They want you to buy a new vehicle after the warranty period Drops off!
Completely normal on the gasket . That's just Toyota FIPG it's an RTV silicone that you apply on the parting lines only! The valve cover itself has a 1 piece gasket and spark plug seals.
5,000 mile intervals is the right way to go! 👍🏽If you plan to keep that car for 150k-200k miles you will be thanking yourself later.. I’ve seen some examples of people following the ridiculous “10k mile” interval and when the engine gets over 100k miles it starts to consume oil excessively. Just about any mechanic that works on engines today will tell you it is not a good idea in the long run to do the 10k mile intervals
@kalani1987 Yep unfortunately there were many Kia & Hyundai engines that were manufactured wrong and had excessive oil consumption the whole service life. Especially the 2.4L GDI engine
0w16 is only suggested to satisfy north american EPA / cafe laws and regulation .engineers do not build the engine around these ultra low viscosity oils ... They are not tighter clearances compared to older engines . I have researched service manuals and compared bearing specs and they are all about the same . Other countries suggest 0w20 and higher in viscosity. With my 21' RAV4 I have been running 0w20 since my first oil change at 1000 miles and then every 5000 after that . I have had no problem with the engine . In fact it runs quieter compared to 0w16 imo. I have seen no difference in fuel economy as well
My Toyota calls for 0-16 but I use 0-20. The engine runs a little bit quieter/smoother but nothing award winning. Some of these engines are now using 0-8. That's extremely thin. I wouldn't feel comfortable using that.
There's a lot more to oil than just viscosity, it can even work against lubrication. UOA is the best way of finding out how each individual engine and driving condition like it.
Most people don't realize that their driving conditions fall under a severe maintenance schedule. If you have cold winters, you should change that oil sooner. Short trips, towing, etc. I noticed the first oil change on DI or DIT engines are crazy dirty compared to older engines. Until those low friction piston rings make a great seal (500-1000) miles, a lot of carbon makes it into the oil. The more carbon in the oil, the more wear on your timing chain and other parts. I feel bad for anyone waiting to 10k on their first oil change for a car they plan to keep because the manual says 10k generally speaking. Same goes for other break-ins like differentials.
Mine is turbo, direct-inject, and 50% city driving. I've learned to change the oil myself and doing it at 3k. I'm paying for it so I don't give a flying f* what others say.
Oil is cheap and engines are expensive. I also do mine every 5000 miles or 6 months and that also gives me a chance to get under my vehicle and look out for other maintenance needed. e.g if there is any leaks or any damages to the suspension parts and exhust pipes.
The dealership uses 5W30 engine oil yearly in Sydney, Australia. But I do one oil change 6 months after the Toyota service. I'm doing a mid-yearly oil change because I plan to keep my Rav4 as long as I can before I drop dead. Or give it to one of my grandchildren.
usually it’s just a regular valve cover gasket and your instructed by manufacturer to place a dab of rtv on the joints (timing cover meets head) ensure a proper seal. :)
Really enjoy your videos. New subscriber here. I'm buying a 2024 Rav4 in very near future. I have a question. What grade of gasoline do you recommend for this type of engine? I don't know if you already made a video of this topic. I want to buy the Rav4 not to ever trade it in but to keep it forever, so I'm looking for tips of how to best maintain it. Thanks.
Only thing I'd say if you're doing your own oil changes, use OEM parts. I know people who didn't use OEM parts and it voided their free maintenance visits
OIL is CHEAP, I change mine every 3,000 because of the oil being a thinner. 2021 XLE AWD. I don't care what people think of my decision. $3.49 Toyota filter $27.00 Mobile1 5 qt bottle at Walmart. cheapest insurance you could ask for. keep doing what is best for your motor, you are much wiser than most. Changed my rear diff at 5,000 miles & it was BLACK & full of crap, not metal debris but BLACK, changed it 3 more times (each time looked lighter) within 100 miles till it was clear. Change it now every 10,000 & it looks clear. It only takes half a quart for the fill... CHEAP. Did the front Differential also at 5,000 & it was clear & clean. same 10,000 schedule as the rear diff & you can do both with 1 quart. It doesn't get any cheaper than that. 35,000 on the vehicle now & I will be performing a complete Transmission flush in my garage like I do with all my Toyota's. It is easy if you know the sequence of steps & have done your homework. Put a level on the top of your vehicle positioning the level in a spot where the level indicates "LEVEL". Then put all 4 lifting/support areas (on the body pinch welds) on jacks and level the vehicle that was explained using the level. Several you-tube videos & forums explain the process. The Dealer & most independent shops won't do it which makes me question the level of knowledge * skills the dealers & shops have. I won't even take the Dealers "FREE" oil changes, no trust & have had nothing but trouble with Dealers causing more problems.
I will be very grateful if you can make playlists for different types of your videos - about firearms - about cars, Honda, Toyota, etc. - fishing - etc... your videos are cool, but sometimes it’s hard to watch them by category
Thanks for sharing. With respect to all guys out there if you use the recommended oil there is no need for 1000 or 5000 miles oil change. The 12 months or up to 10000 miles are perfectly fine.
Fine for how long that's the concern of most people and me .without knowing that I do 6 - 6 ,,,, 6 months or 6000 miles because of contamination in oil from fuel and dirty make pass piston rings then mixing with engine oil
I do agree this Toyota has the smartest engineers in the world when it comes to engine technology. Yes they are the first to consider a 0-16 oil and some of their new ones are using 08 oil either way it is very crazy for him to for Toyota Engineers to consider something that thin to run in an engine will you have different behaviors of drivers how they use their vehicles but the thing is this Toyota Engineers wouldn't have made that decision if they didn't know what they were doing but come down to the point of this this is the way Toyota is considering trying to get more fuel economy out of an engine with let's all drag on the engine. But the reason why they go with a 16 or lesser is to make the Gap space between piston rings and cylinder walls more tighter that being said you don't want the viscosity to swell up too much that can mess up with the compression ratio but of course this is the reason why I be having this argument about toyo's new lesser viscosity oil because it is a concern when it comes down to engine protection and longevity and we all going to agree on about the oil thickness to provide more protection to moving parts but that's the risk to us taking and all I got to say is you better do your homework carefully to trust the best quality oils to protect your engine at that lower viscosity and yes the thought of that is very scarcely to get comfortable with when we thought 0/20 will be will be the lowest and not any lower than that will be insane so once again get the best quality oil with the best film strength is the key. And I do understand for Toyota owners and also Auto enthusiast because this is not a normal type of oil to run in an engine and it's also not considered to be the regular Norm for an engine
My valve cover is "sweating" /leaking on my 21' RAV4 le AWD . The leak is only visible at the rear of the valve cover . I am just monitoring it for now .
I don’t think 5000 miles is wasting money, cause I have a 2017 Camry, I used to change oil at 10,000 miles for the first 50k miles, after 50k miles now I change my oil at every 5k miles, cause I realized it’s start to burn a very little oil, Im glad that now I change my oil every 5k miles, cause now my Camry has 371,000 miles, now it burn 2 qts of oil between 5k oil change
I did a break in at 1k with 0w16 valvoline, going for 3k intervals first year...will do at 4k with gtmo 0w16, 7k with valvonline again and 10k with dealer. I dont trust the dealers oil and will drain it as soon as i come home and send to lab lol
I'm gonna 2024 Rav4 LE for my wife but I don't like the dealers use synthetic which I had bad experience with synthetic in the past. I prefer 5W-30 convention oil.
Dealer over fill oil, put in the wrong weight or skip the filter change. Honda tech on Yt, maintenance reminder code, change oil or change oil n filter.
@MrJLee-ri3so is that what you experienced? I just dont want anyone else soing my oil anymore because i installed a fumoto valve which makes it easier for me to do an oil change. With my luck they would steal my valve and i wouldn't know it. And like you said they could overfill, not change the oil and filter. I wouldn't know unless i watch them.
I do 3000 miles or 3 month oil changes. Did my first oil change on my 23' Tacoma at 850 miles. You're not hurting the engine changing it early and it only costs less than 40 bucks. Also you're keeping engine deposits to a bare minimum if any. And you have a happy engine.
In Costa Rica Toyota does not sell 0-w16, only 0-w20 and 5-w20, the official Toyota practice here is 5-w20, and you can ask for 0-w20 following manual. I drive little and many short trips, humid weather so 0-w20 every 5k or 12 month is my choice. I follow Car care nut and The motor oil geek UA-camrs good advice.
They only care about getting your car past the warranty after that it's all on you. I want my car to last as long as possible so i change my oil and filter at 5k or sooner. The oil doesn't wear out but it sure gets dirty. Oil is a lot cheaper than engine work. I still remember 3k oil changes but that was back when cars ran dirtier cuz the had carbs and no electronics to help them burn cleaner.
Very many online mechanics say that 5000 miles is the proper oil change. They've seen a lot of disasters with 10,000-mile oil changes. Use the oil weight and type that is recommended for your vehicle.
Better advice is to use the European manual. The US canada manual has to follow epa demands to always recommend the lightest. Europe and Australia recommends the best oil. Australia being the hot climate if you live in high heat us states. Follow the European manual for most
Hallo! The owner's manual for my Lexus LBX hybrid says that 0W-8 engine oil should be used. But when I use oil selectors from Mobil, Castrol, ROWE, ..., they recommend using 0W-16 oil for my M15A-FXE engine, and some manufacturers, like Valvoline, even recommend 0W-20. How should this be understood? What do you think about this? I don't think that oil manufacturers are wrong in their recommendations. Thank you.
@@jason200912 Thanks for the answer. But I live in Germany and the user manual recommends 0W-8. According to you, this is the best viscosity for my engine, and the oil manufacturers recommend the wrong viscosity. I find this hard to believe.
Gaskets don't 'squeeze out in blobs. It's silicone seal. Wasting money is wasting money. Where's your evidence? You can get oil analysis to evaluate whether your oil has degraded to where it's lubrication capacity has deteriorated. Oil doesn't wear out. It gets contaminated. (Yes, additives do deteriorate with usage and time, but the base oil does not.) If all your driving is short commuter runs, the oil barely get to operating temperature long enough to boil off the unburned fuel, moisture, and combustion by-products that pass by the piston's rings on every combustion stroke. Then yes, more frequent oil changes are appropriate, as advised in your owner's manual for Severe Service. If the manufacturer recommends 0W16 oil, it's because the variable cam timing mechanism requires it. Too thick, and it could over-load the mechanism, and cause improper valve timing.
Follow the European manuals. They have amazing consumer protection laws. Don't follow the us canada manuals because they are required to only recommend the single, lightest oil or they'll literally get fined. Eurppe, Japan, Australia will actually list out all oils you may use based on the temperatures your region has.
Toyota engineer, says “ 5,000 miles or 6months whatever comes first, always put 0w-16, is crazy how much technology the Toyota engines have and is not worth risking putting the wrong oil.
stick to oem oil for these light oils, it s all about the additive package at these weights, the actual carrier oil at 0w16 provides very little protection
My Toyota dealer changed my oil on my 2nd free visit with less then 10k miles. The 2 nd free oil change had to be done no later then 2 years of ownership. If you go after 2 years, no free oil change.
Oil is not as good as they like you to believe. Rav4 and most vehicles maintenance timers are set at 5k. Forget what manuals say 5k is max for oil. There are many reasons for statements of 10-20k, none of which have anything to do with engine life. Epa and CAFE are the only reasons for these recommendations. Yes you should stick with weight requirements for your motor. Rav4s allow to swap to 0-20 occasionally. If you live in a hot climate 0-20 would be my choice for summer and back to 0-16 for cooler months.
Do you have any idea why Mobile 1 oil is so clear after I change it on my Honda or Toyota? When I check the level, I have no idea where the level is. I have to drive it for a day or so then I can see where the level is.
Most oil should be clear when you change it. Used Ford Synth blend oil for older Honda before, that oil is so clear. When you take car to dealer for free oil change, oil never that clear.
They say trust the engineer for the 10000 mile oil change intervals but then they say don't listen to the engineer for the oil weight recommendations 🤔
I recommend "the carcarenut channel" master tech from toyota talk about why you should use 0w-16 specifically on this engine ua-cam.com/video/9GWKBbEMCC4/v-deo.html at end of the day, your car your money. master tech recommend 5000 miles (8000km) and use 0w-16. oil cheap but engine is expensive.
carcarenut makes alot of lubrication mistakes. Like saying oils thicker than 0W-16 are harmful to the A25A-FKS 4 cylinder. He is aware, but fails to tell his viewers, that the A25A-FKS 4 cylinder is used worldwide and that outside of the USA, Camry and Rav4 owners manuals say 5W-30 is also recommended and even 15W-40 is compatible with the A25A-FKS engine at locations where winters don't get down to near zero: imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7260/QL42RX.jpg
Hi bud , I change my oil on a uk spec 1.6 Corolla non hybrid at 5k and sometimes before , my thought because your car is hybrid and sometimes runs on battery could it go slightly further on oil changes just as it’s not run like a regular car ?
People that use the argument that engineers are the smartest people in the world obviously don’t understand that Toyota is company that stays in business by selling cars.
10K mile interval is just stupid.................. UNLESS those are all long distance highway miles in well less than 6 months time. 5K/6months is a good all around standard.
I have Rav4 2023 hybrid over here in Portugal the first time I changed the oil at the Toyota dealer they put 0w-20 , I questioned them why the put that oil because the manual says always use 0w-16 the answer i got was Toyota Portugal decide that 0w-20 was the best oil for Portugal because the High temperture in the summer , which I disagree completley , I sent severel email to them one of the email , which I stated who develeped the car the engineere in Portugal or the Japan engineers I´m realy pissed off with this situation.
Here in Saudi Arabia the dealer uses 5W30 on hybrids and despite what the Internet tells you it's not an issue really as these engines can take that kind of oil with a slight fuel economy disadvantage. Our manual specifies a range of oils from 0W16 all the way to 5W40 and all according to Toyota are okay to be used with this engine hybrid. In my Rav4 I use 0W16 as it seems the engine runs smoother with that oil.
your engine will thank you later. Just change it every 5k. Don't trust the engineers and this "thin" oil. Wait til oil consumption happens then you will be forced to change it every 5k.
Look up david from auto motive press video "HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR OIL? ENGINEER & FORMER NISSAN GT-R LEADER EXPLAINS" he recommends every 3k miles, thats a bit too much of a burden for most but 5k is well enough and I think still best. Its not about toyota engineers its about the EPA and emissions standards in the united states which forces the OEM to use longer intervals. Also toyota uses 0w-8 now in the US, why does toyota use 0w-20 and 0w-30 in other countries for the same cars? Same reason as previous its all to save on emissions they can save on emissions 1% by using 0w-8 vs 0w-20 but that means it is compromising the engine reliability in the long turn. Earlier intervals are probably more important, and you probably still get to 300k miles with more frequent intervals using 0w-8 but if you are using 0w-8 and still doing every 10k+ oil changes youll be crying later.
I change mine every 5000 miles or 6 months based on the Car Care Nut. He is a Toyota Master Technician. Synthetic oil is cheap. Engines are expensive.
car care nut is great. even if i had not seen his channel i did not like the idea of 10k oil change.

Sell me your vehicle after you're done!
If you want the warranty to remain valid, you need to do what the MFR says. After the warranty is over, have at it.
oil is cheap engine is very expensive.
You can never do too many oil changes, especially if you're going to keep the vehicle long term.
Why cannot you do too many oil changes ? What you mean by this ?
I am a retired automotive engineer. The car company I worked for told their dealers, "If a car comes in that is still under warranty and you determine it needs a new engine, you are required to take a sample of the engine oil and send it into our labs for testing. Can the labs know if you put in a oil other than a 0w-16?
@@kalani1987Yes, check out UOA and you will see all that a test covers.
@@kalani1987 Yes they can!
So change the oil back to the factory recommended oil before taking it in.
Cheap insurance.😅
Great video and a very interesting topic. I wasn’t aware of the variable oil pressure and ‘just in time’ design of the oil flow.
I love changing the oil, which I do myself of course. It’s like therapy and meditation.
The toothpaste analogy is great man! 3:57
5,000 miles with synthetic oil is perfect that’s what I do to my Tundra. Toyota mechanics recommended me to do that. Good video by the way
10k oil changes are assuming a "Perfect" dust free driving environment. $4k-5K is more reasonable for average driving conditions.
Very good point! There are probably zero people who live and drive in a place where zero dust exists.
Also if you do short trips, or the weather is hot or cold, this is considered hard use and they recommend an earlier change. Cheap insurance to make your car last longer
It also assumes someone chose the best oil available. Most Americans and mechanics just pick the cheapest oil.
Every time I see Yakfish Taco upload, I have to watch immediately! All the best
Thank you so much for your support! :)
Real engineers know that you are correct with oil change intervals with people that want to keep their vehicles for longer! TY!!
The valve cover has a black synthetic gasket throughout. What you are seeing are dabs of silicone added in a few areas only.
Ooo thanks , I hope so ))

Oil is cheap. Cars are expensive. I always change my oil frequently.
I’m retired and drive 2k a year short and long distances. I change my oil every 4-5k or every two years. I use the 0-16 oil Toyota tells me to use. To me it’s better to change oil sooner than 10K. The Toyota Owners Manual states:
"If SAE 0W-16 is not available,
SAE 0W-20 oil may be used. However, it MUST be replaced

"An oil with a higher

To me, you can use 0W-20 oil for a (10K oil change), then you MUST change back to 0W-16, and that one with a higher value may be better suited, like you are towing or mountain driving.
So I am using 0W-20 for the summer (April-Oct), then changing back to 0W-16 in the winter, (Oct-Apr) change it every 5K or 6 Months.

I change mine every 5000 as well. Toyota recommends 10000 only for ideal driving conditions which almost no one meets.
Thanks for clarifying
5,000 mile intervals is the right way to go! 👍🏽If you plan to keep that car for 150k-200k miles you will be thanking yourself later.. I’ve seen some examples of people following the ridiculous “10k mile” interval and when the engine gets over 100k miles it starts to consume oil excessively. Just about any mechanic that works on engines today will tell you it is not a good idea in the long run to do the 10k mile intervals
On my Kia I changed the oil at 5k or less and it still burns oil
@kalani1987 Yep unfortunately there were many Kia & Hyundai engines that were manufactured wrong and had excessive oil consumption the whole service life. Especially the 2.4L GDI engine
@@deionhughes6867 I have the 2.4L naturally aspirated. It runs like a clock but the oil burning is fouling up the cat converter
I have seen no difference in fuel economy as well
I think for Canada it better 0w16 ? What do you think?
My Toyota calls for 0-16 but I use 0-20. The engine runs a little bit quieter/smoother but nothing award winning. Some of these engines are now using 0-8. That's extremely thin. I wouldn't feel comfortable using that.
@@jackfrost99my new Corolla calls for 0w-8. I'll use that oil till the warranty runs out
There's a lot more to oil than just viscosity, it can even work against lubrication. UOA is the best way of finding out how each individual engine and driving condition like it.
@@kalani1987Doesn’t the Corolla manual say you can alternate between 0W-16 and 0W-8?
Most people don't realize that their driving conditions fall under a severe maintenance schedule. If you have cold winters, you should change that oil sooner. Short trips, towing, etc. I noticed the first oil change on DI or DIT engines are crazy dirty compared to older engines. Until those low friction piston rings make a great seal (500-1000) miles, a lot of carbon makes it into the oil. The more carbon in the oil, the more wear on your timing chain and other parts. I feel bad for anyone waiting to 10k on their first oil change for a car they plan to keep because the manual says 10k generally speaking. Same goes for other break-ins like differentials.
i have a lexus ct200h with 120k miles. i oil change every 5000 mile max. it currently does not burn 1 drop of oil
The answer is (no it's not)
Yes I am agree with your logic
Mine is turbo, direct-inject, and 50% city driving. I've learned to change the oil myself and doing it at 3k. I'm paying for it so I don't give a flying f* what others say.
Is your engine the D-4T?
@@bmsk0076 not a Toyota, its a Honda
@@mark1nycYou’re right! Frequent oil changes is the way to go with DI turbo engines.
My Brother's 2024 developed a leak from the oil pan, after a week. They had to drop the pan and replace the gasket. Only 70 miles on the truck.
No ramps this time?
Why are you not using oem filters? They are not very expensive and come pre-lubed.
No needs, undercarriage is high enough, last time I use ramp for better angles
Thanks.
😊 yeah it all depends upon if you're using synthetic oil or not also
Ow16 is only available as synthetic
Only thing I'd say if you're doing your own oil changes, use OEM parts. I know people who didn't use OEM parts and it voided their free maintenance visits
I have a 2018 Camry with 90000 miles and i’ve always change my oil every 5000 miles not 10000 like the dealer recommend
Nothing like peace of mind 😊

With respect to all guys out there if you use the recommended oil there is no need for 1000 or 5000 miles oil change. The 12 months or up to 10000 miles are perfectly fine.
Fine for how long that's the concern of most people and me .without knowing that I do 6 - 6 ,,,, 6 months or 6000 miles because of contamination in oil from fuel and dirty make pass piston rings then mixing with engine oil
@@FuckUA-cam-8y for as long as the car s on the road
@@toninocars contaminated oil in the engine for one year every time is un healthy you will be needing lots of luck.
What mileage do you have?
I don’t think 5000 miles is wasting money, cause I have a 2017 Camry, I used to change oil at 10,000 miles for the first 50k miles, after 50k miles now I change my oil at every 5k miles, cause I realized it’s start to burn a very little oil, Im glad that now I change my oil every 5k miles, cause now my Camry has 371,000 miles, now it burn 2 qts of oil between 5k oil change
Thanks for providing your valuable real life experience for the people to see, thank you!
I change oil every 6 months not one year and only put on 5000km or less ! I believe oil change is the cheapest maintenance for vehicle !
You're amazing however please tell me what do you think about Tesla? Would you drive Tesla X?
Blue washers you can change every other oil change since they are reusable.
You want 300K out of your motor change it at least every 5K. 👍
I didnt use the free oil change from dealer. I dont trust people enough to do my oil change other than myself.
And a happy emission system. You'll avoid getting the dreaded check engine light for "catalyst efficiency below threshold".
I follow Car care nut and The motor oil geek UA-camrs good advice.
changing your oil every 5k is the way, filters are usually no good by then and the oil will degrade quickly. It is cheap insurance
Thank you.
@@hubi16 check the European or Japanese model manuals. they use the correct oil. In hot climates you may use the Australian manual.

Use factory and oil filter and gasket too
Use toyota oil filter, especially designed for ur vehicle.
Follow the European manuals. They have amazing consumer protection laws. Don't follow the us canada manuals because they are required to only recommend the single, lightest oil or they'll literally get fined.
Eurppe, Japan, Australia will actually list out all oils you may use based on the temperatures your region has.
Generally there is a bit of RTV around the joins in the head just for a bit of extra seal should the VCG miss anything.
What do you use to record when doing diy?
My dealership changed my oil every 5000 miles for free, (1 year) stating they disagree with Toyota's 10k spec.
Next time, use another 1 qt to flush the old oil. Yes, you will waste 1 qt only just to flush it.

What oil brand and filter brand are you using?
I change oil every 6 months not one year! I believe oil change is the cheapest maintenance for vehicle !
Toyota engineer, says “ 5,000 miles or 6months whatever comes first, always put 0w-16, is crazy how much technology the Toyota engines have and is not worth risking putting the wrong oil.
Good job 😊
stick to oem oil for these light oils, it s all about the additive package at these weights, the actual carrier oil at 0w16 provides very little protection
I change my rav4 oil every 6 months with 0-16 as I put less than 5,000 miles in 6 months.
Is it covered by the Toyota Care? I also don't drive that much.
My Toyota dealer changed my oil on my 2nd free visit with less then 10k miles. The 2 nd free oil change had to be done no later then 2 years of ownership. If you go after 2 years, no free oil change.
Let me tell you something Yakfish. 0w-16 oil is only going to harm your engine if you live in a really hot place.

I recommend "the carcarenut channel" master tech from toyota talk about why you should use 0w-16 specifically on this engine ua-cam.com/video/9GWKBbEMCC4/v-deo.html
at end of the day, your car your money. master tech recommend 5000 miles (8000km) and use 0w-16. oil cheap but engine is expensive.
carcarenut makes alot of lubrication mistakes.
I thought about that , cuz the gas engine is not constantly on.
What filter did you use?
Every 5000 miles. Why not? Its 30 bucks and 1 hour work 3 times a year.
5k miles or 1yr is excelent on today full synthetics oil
your engine will thank you later.
Thought he said everything 2,000 miles in the video or maybe they was just for the turbo GTR. 😉
Why didn’t you buy hybrid rav4?
He has a video about that.
Not much of difference between 0w16 or 0w20 just factory use this thin oil to get better fuel economy
