59:38 #Quah question #1 - Whenever I travel, I end up losing weight because I am so scared of perfectly tracking food that I end up restricting. How do you balance staying active and choosing healthy meals while away without being overly restrictive?
1:02:57 #Quah question #2 - What are the most useful certifications for a new aspiring personal trainer going into the industry? What should I start with to get my foot in the door?
1:05:30 #Quah question #3 - If steps are controlled, does it matter if you get them from long-distance running or walking and would it affect your muscle building?
1:08:34 #Quah question #4 - Any benefit to "pre exhausting" large muscles before compound lifts? That way you can use lighter weight and still reach close to failure with less risk.

This is why I love mind pump so much, not only does it teach me about nutrition and exercise but it's also basically therapy on how to integrate your whole self, to examine your motivations rather than acting out of self-denial and self-hatred. I really love Sal's message of how we should change our behaviors out of self-love and self-care. Such a healthy message. Thank you guys for all that you do!
👍
Justin saying how burying your issues down erodes you from the inside is the most accurate statement ever made. I am currently dealing with something I’ve buried for the last 13 years. Speaking those buried emotions to another human was the most scary, emotional, and freeing thing I’ve done in my entire life. Taking that first step on the path of healing is very empowering.
The sooner you learn to be your own best friend, and treat yourself like you would a best friend, the better off you will be.
That intro: why you guys are everyone's favorite health&wellness podcast. Top tier work
The way Sal described developing a relationship with yourself sounds a lot like IFS & as an IFS practitioner, that makes me so happy ☺️
I also want to add that I deeply appreciate your non judgment approach to issues such as obesity, self care, and weaknesses that are difficult to correctly identify in the first place and without that clarity seemingly impossible to change, at least in the longterm. This approach is authentic and real vs making it solely a self discipline problem/issue. Thank you!!!!!
I have a friend that is starting his fitness journey. Your content has been a God send to help him make the best choices to improve his health and wellness.
The more I learn about physical health and nutrition, the more interested I become in psychology and mental health. It's all so connected!
I’m a mental health therapist and this show was so balanced in truth of healing mind, body, soul. Sal you’re so wise. If anyone is interested in parts work, look up internal family systems. It’s incredibly affective in understanding the psyche and healing ❤
Let's go!...mind pump time = body pump time. Thanks fellas and the awesome folks behind the scene.
Best behaviour change has definitely been watching every MindPump episode that gets released now that I've graduated from university 😇
Mind Pump is the best! You guys are so consistently putting out helpful, inspiring, and entertaining episodes like this one. Thanks for the mindset change. Love what you guys do! Keep it up!
Justin for the win in this episode! He’s correct when he speaks about that we have to take action and not just “be in our feelings”. Both are important, if not you fall into victim mentality.
Sal, you had me at “value of Ramadan is spirituality”. Thank you for saying that!!
Your approach to health, wellness and fitness is fun and educational. Thank you guys for tackling all the tough topics and shedding light on things we think aren’t normal. I really appreciate all the thought and work that goes into each podcast 🙏🏼
Such professional men, with a passion and love for what they do. Many blessings your way!
It’s being like this world (unhealthy, depressed, and lonely) is normal, I don’t want to be normal. Keep fighting the good fight!
Working on figuring me out so I can reengage well to lose more in my journey
My favorite podcast crew!
Such a gem of an episode.
Thanks guys. Great show!
Love this video, thanks guys for all you do.
Omg you guys made my freaking day! Health and banter! Hell yes! My day isn’t complete unless I have my headphones on while lifting! Flipping adore you HANDSOME MEN!
Love the videos and breakdowns you guys provide. In the fitness, mental health, and spiritual areas!!
Under 30 club here, been trying to implement “being different” from my peers and such. It’s a battle, you win some and lose some but it definitely helps and I know the work will pay off later on
I love learning from you guys, thank you
OMG Sal, I can relate so much to being hyper independent, being the giver and never expecting or even accepting anything for myself.
My health journey (down 85 pounds in 6 years), was so much more mental work. Changing my mindset about so many things and making the small changes that add up over time to a total lifestyle change and to keep evolving to being a better self.
You guys are awesome and I have been following you and your advice the last few months. Can’t wait to see where this next leg of my journey leads me.
I took me a while to learn this or rather unlearn old ways!! I’m still a work in progress. This is such an important subject. So many of us are stuck! Thank you guys as always very informative!
Love the hat Justin! Go cubs!! 🥳🥳🥳
This is the first time commenting on one of your podcasts. I have enjoyed every show that I've listened to and found value in spending my time this way. ❤️ This particular episode hits me directly in my heart. Everything you've said, both of you is exactly what I needed to hear in this moment! I am in awe of how these seemingly coincidences are becoming the new norm for me. As soon as I ask a question about something that is coming up in my life, the answers (or understanding) appear! You've brought clarity to me today. Identifying the problem, ask questions for clarity and understanding, and the ability to break or change the patterns becomes more of a natural process than a fight for the fittest! Thank you!
It’s a tough road to home but your guys show is a huge help
Thank you 🙏🏻 much needed. I fell off the wagon nutritionally with a 90 day fitness challenge. I’m in my head a lot but trying to give myself grace. So thank you for reminding myself to dig a little deeper and explore why.
Another great show. So many things resonate with me. Finding out that strength training at 61 is giving me far better gains. I'm stronger, not necessarily leaner (yet) have a greater libido and getting the confirmation that eating more protein means less cravings. I also agree taking the UK out of the alcohol consumption usage would greatly change the calculation, much to my frustration, we really let our nation down.
Thank you
This was honestly a really eye opening episode. Such great content! Keep up the great work fellas 👍🏻
My fitness and overall wellness has changed and improved so much since I started listening to this podcast!! Thank you so much for your consistency & care for your listeners!! So refreshing to be listening to experts who don’t tolerate any of the BS the Fitness industry sometimes tries to push on people!! Thanks guys!!
Thanks for what you guys do !from Cali expat from Germany.
This is some great advice, now if I could just get my wife to listen to it too 😂
Love this episode and about asking for help especially.
Another great episode!
Wow, love this episode. It’s because of you guys I’ve learned to do disciplined things with a better mindset and be more compassionate to myself in the highs and now lows (better than some therapists I’ve seen!). Life changing and unlike any other fitness channel. Thank you fellas. You’re on a totally other level, and thank you for your vulnerability
Agreed! I think it's better for me than therapy because I listen to it every day, whereas I did not go to a therapist every single day when I was going. As the guys say, consistency is everything
I really enjoyed todays episode! For some reason it reminded me of the older mind pump, circa epsiode 800-1400 (in a good way😅)
Been a fan of the show for 2 years now and you guy and you're programs have changed my life for the better!
21:46 - Since I live in Campbell right on top of San Jose, and I've been a personal trainer for 20 years as well, it always trips me out when Sal, Justin, and Adam have all the same roots as me. 😂
Love sourdough! Learned to make it to help my child but we all benefit! I mill my own flour also! And also started making our own yogurt, kefir soda, and milk kefir. As a family we all gave up any proceeded flour products. Our home rule is: if mom didnt mill and make it, we dont eat it... trust me! That stuff you call white bread, is not bread! Hard White wheat berry bread is not white...
Great content in this episode! What an inspiration!
I’m a 51yo stress eater and taking magnesium L-threonate has dramatically helped manage my stress/anxiety and reduced my appetite/cravings. It passes the blood brain barrier which also helps my cognition/memory in menopause. I get longer REM sleep as well.
You guys made such a great point. I might have to listen to it again to completely understand it. I love you guys.
I think when you're younger, it's much harder to be really healthy because of all the distractions and the way everyone lives. April I started waking up early, 06:00 o'clock, so i had to sleep at 22:00. The only people I saw outside was older people. I started to feel a little cut out of the world, like I live in a different "time zone" from everyone my age. You gotta let almost everyone out of your life to be healthy this days!
@NikosDala Winner! Please email: ann@mindpumpmedia.com with a screenshot of your youtube username, winning episode number, and the email address you would like the program under and we will get you hooked up!
@@MindPumpShow thank you so so much guys 🙏🙏🙏
Oh my! You are talking my therapy language. IFS is so awesome. #therapistnerdwholifts
Boom
Adam, I have psoriasis on my scalp and face- including my eye lids. I've stayed away from steroid creams for the reasons you mentioned. Red light therapy does help mine a little. Pro tip- avoid getting psoriasis in your eyes. They swell shut within minutes. 😂
Oh if I had only found you 20 yrs ago in my 30's!
I’d be interested in hearing more about how you’ve chosen to manage your psoriasis. I also have it. I also tried talking to 3 different doctors about addressing the inflammation to no avail, they just gave me steroids.
So the other day at my daughter's softball practice I was showing how to properly get out of the way when a ball is about to hit them. Literally all I did was squat ass to grass and stand back up and some other dad from the bleachers said "oh you're gonna feel that in the morning." Like he thought I would be completely wrecked for a single bodyweight squat, absolutely crazy. I'm only 35, and I think this other dad is probably 40, but how out of shape do you have to be where a single bodyweight squat will just wreck you. To flex on him a little I ran sprints with the team after practice.
😮
I apologize for dumping information. But I thought this might be useful for the gentlemen in the red shirt
I found it in pub med
Abstract
Background: The use of psychological therapies for patients with psoriasis has been proposed based on observations that the severity of their disease may correlate with emotional stress. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the effect of hypnosis as a treatment modality for patients with psoriasis.
Try blending the Paleovalley bone broth with ice and almond milk instead of just mixing with milk. The grainy texture is gone and it is SO good. It's like a chocolate milkshake.
I'm learning so much from you guys! I watch every day now. I've been trying to decide what program I should start with. I'm thinking of MAPS Anabolic. I'm big on fasting, but going to try to get my protein intake up first by adding a meal at 3pm. I usually don't have my first food of the day until 5pm then dinner at 6:30. I feel like my lifestyle is complicated yet simple and consistent. I just want to lose 8 pounds and build some noticeable muscle.
💪🏿💪🏿
Internal Family Systems (IFS)!
Sal is so fkn smart lol 3:40
The sun (and thereby UV light) has anti-inflamatory effects if i remember correctly from a dermatologist. So use sun protection but yes the UV light does have slight benefits.
*me stuffing myself with chicken nuggets and chips because I’m anxious*
… ohhhh!
Can someone tell me what brand the guys suggest for bone broth protein powder?
Since weed got legal in Missouri my alcohol consumption is practically zero now
A cure for Psoriasis is cold showers do for 10-30 seconds a day it will go away, my husband had it in his scalp beard, knees, and elbows, for years we found this out by accident, cold therapy is good for inflammation which is also linked to Psoriasis and other skin conditions. Red-light therapy is amazing for your body boosts the mitochondrion in your cells, I have used it for 5 years it helps with pain in general and muscle soreness from doing weight training, and I have also used it on my dog and cat when they have had injuries, put it in direct contact with the skin, I bought mine from Leanne Venier on UA-cam. 😀
75 HARD is the first step of the Live Hard program, it's not about forcing yourself through a fitness program. It's about developing mental toughness, facing your problems, not bury them like you said, and habits of self-discipline, which helps you be a successful human being overall. It's not about hating yourself and punishing yourself. People are too weak today, and they're being told it's ok to need a safe space and stay in their little comfort bubble while the world should tip toe around their triggers. It's pathetic and why society is crumbling. You sound like what's with the world.
MAPS Parenting 😅
What’s the name of the intro song please??
I was really pro legalization of drugs. I think there are pockets in America where it was successful and other countries do it well. But, culturally it was a disaster here, like skid row is not the place to have decriminalized drugs. It’s just insane in Oregon now. We don’t have medical, mental, housing supports that can sustain normal people, let alone addicts and mentally ill to make decriminalizing drugs a success. It’s literally just turned into anarchy.

I want to apologize. For the first time in 6 years I took a break from yall for almost 2 weeks due to being glued to the Kendrick and Drake beef.. so now i'm playing catch up.. BTW.. Justin- Kendrick won. Adam- Drake won. Sal- Taylor swift won. BTW... Drake can never talk about girls or sex again.
Just an FYI guys, men get better looking with age. It's not "you're good looking for your age", it's just simply "you're good looking"
That lady was right!
The gut microbiome is the key to longevity.
Many great philosophers and theologians have all related thoughts to this.
Socrates :
Worthless people live only to eat and drink; people of worth eat and drink only to live
I had such bad IBS I refrained from going out.
It was almost like as soon as I was putting it in my mouth it was coming out of the other end.
I've mastered strengthening the gut microbiome I do everything!
Not one molecule of any unnatural compound.
Say goodbye to carrageenan gum say goodbye to polysorbate 80
Say goodbye to all preservatives and natural flavors and colorings.
Introduce minimum 35 grams of fiber per day all from fibrous carbohydrates.
Eat minimum 100 g of assorted nuts and seeds chia seeds etc.
Allow no more than 25 grams of sugar per day and all should come from nutritive sweeteners like honey or coconut sugar etc.
During 3 l of wate per day
Of course eat all probiotics prebiotics and postbiotics that you can in right amount.
I mono eat, so I eat the foods one at a time and I allow approximately 10 minutes between foods.
Now my poops are 3 ft long and they're like Italian sausages but the best part is I don't need toilet paper anymore.
Dry as a bone.
Thanks to people Like Sal, Adam and Doug, Mark Hyman and Dr Li, and many many more I follow about a dozen of them.
I have reversed heart disease and diabetes psoriatic arthritis, severe psoriasis, even Achilles tendinitis that I was suffering from over 30 years!! Was always wearing compression socks ice , cold baths massages very limited time I was able to stand on my feet, now I can walk 15,000 steps I couldn't walk 500 before could barely stand up for more than 15 minutes all day.
As soon as I put my body into optimal nutritional state magic has been happening.
I urge everyone to eat as clean as you can for one year and reply to this comment in a year and thank me.
Can you guys talk about functional training in relation to weight lifting and resistance training as you age? Because I was listening to a podcast where these functional training guys completely dismantled exercises like squat, deadlift, and bench press stating all these are not only bad but increase risk of many injuries. They focus more on like plyometric or body weight exercises ONLY. Despite all the science that states the benefits of building muscle from a weight lifting perspective. I wonder what are you guys thoughts on that? As a trainer I'm always interested in educating myself and clients for long life improvements.
I found there Instagram! These workouts are good for movement but definitely does not replace all out resistance weight training, sprints, etc...

Well once you are older you have to deal with lifelong bad habits. Easier to make changes early rather than later in life. Stick to your program!
