Why 1180ft (1000FT AAL) as baro ref? And not bug up altitude for example? How you you avoid forgeting the bug up altitude?
The 1180ft is the MFRA, Minimum Flap Retraction Altitude. This is the altitude where we bug up and retract the flaps in case of an engine failure. This is calculated by our performance tool. The calculated MFRA we preselect in the BARO as a reminder if an engine failure happens. This number varies from environmental conditions and and runway/airport (it's rarely the standard 1000FT AAL, but in LIL in this case on the video it is actually 1000FT AAL as the terrain is flat and there are big no obstacles). The normal 'bug up' depends on the NADP (Noise Abatement Procedure) used for that specific airport or runway. For NADP1 it happens at 3000ft AAL and for NADP2 it happens at 1000ft AAL. I can remember this from memory as we brief it and I'm quite familiar with the airports I fly to, other pilots might use some other way to remember it.
