Hi James, I’m glad you found it useful 😊 I recently did a video where I reviewed my Ortlieb bags after 6 months of use. That video, as well as seeing it in use on some of my bikepacking adventures, might help you out. If you have any specific questions just ask and I’ll be sure to get back to you 👍🏻 I’ve had it on some really rough stuff and it holds itself really well if you take the time to attach it securely. Great bit of kit and a good size. Very rugged material which stops you worrying about water, rips etc.
@thebikepackingdad please be careful if your riding below freezing temps as the fibers in the filter will be damaged and not work. Keep the filter next to your body if your below freezing. Not sure if the bladder has UV protection so keep it covered.
Hi Steve, have you got a link to what you mean? Keen to have a look! I know you can get the additional strap that goes up and over but don’t know about these brackets! Thanks 😊
@@thebikepackingdad Regarding this issue and the comment from @stevemullin1195 . I had been watching Ortlieb reviews for the 16.5L. Seen the great design of the QR (quick release) and clip to the rails in a very secure way. Brilliant I thought to go and buy, but then realised I am looking at two different models. The QR is the smaller 13L bag. Which does beg the question as to why not use that system on the larger bag too? i.e. the larger the bag, the more need to secure the sway. Bottom line - I think it's the capacity that is important to me, so I must risk the movement and buy the 16.6L. And perhaps that QR model is what Steve had viewed as did I.
Hello 😊 Thanks for the comment. I thought Steve was talking about some sort of adapter rather than a different model but I can see how it would easily be confused! You can buy a simple strap that pulls up and over the 16.5L model but truth be told if you pack it well, secure it well, it doesn’t move that much at all. If you’ve seen some of my adventures you’ll see it’s been over all sorts of terrain and stayed pretty steady 😊
Thanks for watching. Hope it helped you out 😊 I think I’ve read that as well. The only way would be with the large closure straps but I’ll take a look and if I can I’ll get a little video short made up. Keep an eye on the channel 👍🏻
@@thebikepackingdad thanks..a bit of poking around and I found the extra strap to secure more... Looks like those straps might be bit thin...but... guess you could improv some padding if need be, and, prob not carry too much weight too far on a day walk... Thanks.
@@misterlewgee8874 I’ve considered the extra strap to stop excess movement whilst riding but to be fair if you attach it well it doesn’t rock that much 👍🏻 I think as a makeshift backpack it would be fine but not for long term use 😊
Hi Keith 😊 Thanks for taking the time to get in touch. I’m glad the review helped you out and I hope you have some awesome adventures with the new bag. I’ve no doubt it will treat you well!
@@thebikepackingdad you’re welcome! I had my heart set on the quick release version but I didn’t really want to change my carbon fibre seat post/seat. After seeing your review I feel confident that the non QR version will be plenty stable for a cross-continent trip I’m doing with my kids this May. I appreciate the effort that goes into these videos. I know how much work it is.

Your trip sounds great! Not jealous at all… I’ve not had any stability issues but if you are worried look for that extra strap Ortlieb now sell just to firm it up 👌🏻 The work for the videos is worth it for comments just like yours. It’s nice to know some people find them useful 🙌🏻
Hi 😊 I run the straps and clip under the bungee cords so I can still use them. I find the back is firmer and more sturdy when strapped across itself. Personal preference though! Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Great no-nonsense review. Really useful. Would be interested in some comments on how it rides on different terrain, too. Many thanks

The water filter on the bungee is a #protip! I'll be using that from now on.
Hi Dennis, thanks for watching! Glad I could help out 😊 Really handy, especially when it’s cold, when you don’t want to be digging around in bags etc!

@@stevemullin1195 The screw on filter fits handy in a pocket which is ideal for the colder trips. Good shout!
There are brackets that mount to your saddles rails that then go on both sides of the saddle bag to stop the swaying.

Fair review.
Thanks for watching mate. Hope it was of some use 👍🏻
I think I read it can also serve as a daypack... I'd like to see how.
Thanks for posting

Thanks for the review. However, the clips should be on the side of the bag. Otherwise the space above the bags cannot be used.

Big enough to use as a stack bag
If you mean ‘snack bag’ then I agree completely 😜
@@thebikepackingdad no, I was referring to "the stack" you tied to a back rack consist of tent, pad and sleeping sac.
@@migueltrujillo5932 that sounds more sensible than where my mind went 👌🏻😂
