    One we fell in love with the same T3. But all test drives gave so many problems. So after a year of fruitless searching we changed to a similar bus that we found by accident. A smaller one compared to the T3, but with lots of space, a seperate bathroom, enough room to stand upright and never a single problem in the past 10 years!! We bought a Mercedes MB 100 D. The are rare, but if you can get one.... you'll be safe for years. Greetings, Michel

    Ok about storage :) Gas tank you could install under the van at you could get original one, then water tank, you could put under 1 or 2 tanks under so plenty water, elektric stuf you can all of it put under the seats. yes high roof is storage saver :)

    How ya getting on, the V pulleys wear and spread over time and is most likely the cause of eating belts. Might be worth changing the alternator pulley and the crank pulley and checking the alternator is lined up well. FYI at least one of the Allen head bolts on the crank pulley will fail to open for ya if you go changing it. As for a little extra room you could make a tank for the waste water under the van. Ours is a length of 6inch waven pipe with end caps which you can get in any builder providers and a few fittings for fill and draining. 👍

    • @ShaneandAneVanLife
      @ShaneandAneVanLife  2 роки тому

      Other than those 2 wee issues the van has been running great. We will definitely have to look into getting some new pulleys.
      That idea of the water tank is good.a lot of wasted space underneath. We might actually do that.
      How was your trip to Spain?

    • @TheTinski07
      @TheTinski07 2 роки тому

      @@ShaneandAneVanLife See if you can get new ones and if you can't I should have a set of used ones which may be better. The tank I fitted was actually the fresh water tank on another van. You could have both under there. Spain was great went right down to Sagres. Had a surf in Oriñón on our last day on your recommendation 👍

    Great video I'd be looking at why the belts keep shreading when off the road but an easy fix on the roadsidewhen travelling.Would you put a petrol GTI engine from a Golf in that'll fly 😂😂

    • @ShaneandAneVanLife
      @ShaneandAneVanLife  3 місяці тому +1

      I had to chnage the Altenator. Where the alternator pivots the hole was no longer a proper circle and was causing the belt to rub therefor snapping.
      I'd love a GTI engine bit it's an expensive swap when you take in gearbox etc

      Om
      Slacing off the nut for the altneator so it can drop down a touch
      Then down below on the pulley shoud she 3 bolts undo them and take pulley off but keep the shims. You have to water pump belt too to get the altnator belt off

    Just a thought ! Is it possible that you are overtightening the alternator belt for it to keep snapping? The belt should be adjusted so that it has about 12mm or 1/2 " play either side of centre line, and the pulleys should be clean and dry. It can be a good idea to rough up the drive surfaces of the pulleys with emery tape! Cheers dx

    • @ShaneandAneVanLife
      @ShaneandAneVanLife  Місяць тому +1

      We found out the problem!! The hole in which the altneator is mounted wasn't a perfect circle and it had gone out of shape overtime cause the belt to rub and therfor snapping it.

    VW never made a 'T3 with a 1.9 TD engine I have a high roof 1.6 TD which is the (JX coded engine) with a 5 speed and it is progressively quicker than a 1 9 diesel non aspirated and more reliable

    i am a new owner of a 82 T25 diesel. and yes i have as many spare belts. for some reason it wears out so fast. its like one belt per 1000km. i had one big belt before. but the original way was 2 belts. so i tried doing that. but i cant find any place that sells the shims for the water pulley. so right now i have too the water pump belt too tight until i can make my own shims. i think the reason for the wear is incorrect angle of the V groove in relation to the belt angle.

    • @ShaneandAneVanLife
      @ShaneandAneVanLife  Рік тому

      What engine have you got? Did you try just kampers or VW heritage they should sell the shims.
      I got a new altenator and havent snapped a belt since. The problem was the pivot point of the alternator was slightly off and that was causing the belt to rub off the pulley and snapping them.

    • @pyronitro

      @@ShaneandAneVanLife i have the 1.6 CS. there is no source for the shims here in USA. and shipping prices are quite silly. some even refuse to ship. So i'm just going to make some from tin cans while i work on my engine swap candidate.
