I have been sewing since I was 16, and I’m 73 now. On and off. When I was young, 16-25, it was easy to fit patterns. But after having 3 children and gaining weight, I stopped sewing for myself for a while because I got out of proportion and didn’t know how to fit patterns to myself. I made all my kids’ clothes to get department store quality for discount store prices. I sew for myself now again because there isn’t much in the stores that I like. But this video really made some important points. The one statement that hit me the most was “I want people to know that you are worth the time it takes to make your wardrobe YOU.” if I like a garment, I will wear it a lot, and keep wearing it till it wears out. That is what I want to make. I taught my daughter how to sew, and she has been sewing for herself for several years now. My daughter in law learned to sew and we taught my granddaughter how to sew. I think it’s important to pass this skill on and teach our children the concepts in this video.

This is everything I always wanted sewing to be. I've just bought the Metamorphic dress pattern and I'm so looking forward to starting this journey.

Was it supposed to make me cry? Because it did. This spoke to me so deeply.
I’ve hated how I look for so long.
My husband bought me a sewing machine Christmas 2018. I finally turned it on yesterday. I’ve been so scared (and still am) of making a mistake and for so long I felt “well I’ll make myself a dress when I’m the size I want to be”
All that has done is make me feel badly about myself.
Your words mean so much to me. Thank you.
I have several patterns of yours, but can you tell me which one of all your patterns is best for my first dress/shirt?
    💛

I’m reading this 2 years after you made this comment. It made me excited to see someone learning to sew. How did it go? Have you been sewing? I would have said don’t be afraid of mistakes. They are learning opportunities. I heard a skating teacher say “If you are never falling down, you aren’t learning anything.” Your seam ripper can be your best friend. And video makers and people commenting on sewing videos can help you.

Beautiful! Everything about your message is beautiful. Hopefully one day I’ll have a budget to join you... for now I try to make little steps in this direction... Best of luck!
