Tell me why you are filming on a Sunday because my theory is you don't want people to see what it's like midweek when there should be loads of people but there aren't any. Why they are building new bits of town in disjointed places beggars belief it's like they want to carve it up on purpose.
It's certainly changed, I've been here 5 years after moving from York, and even in my short time the amount of change is impressive. Sheffield is going through the building revolution that other major cities went through 15-20 years ago but Sheffield missed out on. It's such a vibrant city now and the city centre (where I live) is a great place to live, work and hang out.
I was baptised at St Mary’s and my Gran lived on Midland St. This area has totally changed from the 70’s when I knew it. I think there was a kids play area somewhere there with swings, rocking horse and slide - all on to tarmac! It paid not to fall off in those days. Wasn’t there a car showroom there and a small factory building to do with work for less able people?
Looks snazzy. Sheffield is looking very different from how I remember it when I visited 20 years ago. I remember a grey rainy day getting off the bus looking up at the Park Hill estate. I think that has been done up as well, hasn't it? Great to see all this investment up there!
It looks beautiful and a far-cry from when I lived in Sheffield in the early 1990s. However, without wanting to sound pessimistic, I just how long it'll be before that sculptured deer will be vandalised? It looks a prime target!
i used to be staying at the student residence right beside at sheldon street before this was built. Definitely a huge change. I rmb the KH oriental market many years back was just a warehouse style supermarket. So many had changed over last decade.
There wasn't much there, car dealers and the Sportsman pub if you wanted to fight the world in the name of football. London Road itself (not too far away) was great when all the pubs were open, but most are long gone. What needs to happen is a way to bridge the gap created by the ring road, because it cuts this area off from the Moor and into town.
I had no idea about this place, so thanks for enlightening me, will have to toddle down and take a look. Not keen on the name though, seems a little pretentious :)
Maybe don't live in a built up modern city then? 😂 Sheffield has a great mix of pedestrian and traffic areas. I grew up in York, and trust me, if you want progress and development, you need a mixture of both. York is dying on its feet cos no one wants progress.
Something needed to be done to that area of old run-down streets. I lived off Ecclesall road during the 50’s & 60’s, & the only time I walked past St. Mary’s Church was if I was walking home from the HEARTBEAT Disco on Queen’s Road. I couldn’t wait to get past that area & onto Ecclesall Road.
It is probably busier in the evenings when all the Students are home from school.😊. I’ve shopped in that Aldi once or twice & it is FULL of Students - they seem to be the only ones that shop there.
I think that is why shops on The Moor are closing. It puts women especially off walking up there. I live in Nth. Derbyshire but it’s Meadowhall for me for shops now.
A bleak concrete ghost town, Chinese students sat in shoeboxes in the sky, Chinese shops with Chinese writing only, a once thriving industrial area with pubs, workshops, little mesters, housing, characters and soul. All swept away, socially cleansed. The workshops across the road, side of St Marys are now coffee, barista and vintage clothing nonsense frequented by yuppies. As usual the yuppies cherry pick what they want to save and the rest is demolished. A dystopian future 👍
Hmm - it’s very bland with no sense of place. I’m not against modern architecture but this is drag n drop generic. Nothing says Sheffield. I can’t remember this particular area but I bet the old buildings could have been redeveloped rather than demolished and replaced with these bland blocks. I don’t think they’ll age well.
I would say it’s mostly Students who use it. They seem to bring a lot of money into the City, especially foreign Students. I go to that area sometimes with my D.i.l to shop at the Chinese Supermkt & you see very few families or middle-agers around there.

Practically unrecognizable since the 1970's and some of the buildings are ultra modern; I'd love to come back and visit one day.
It's definitely changed a bit!

I only recognised St Mary's Church....but then it has been 35 years since I left Sheffield. Looks terrific.
It's getting there isn't it!
Move from Sheffield in 1967 always glad to see my home town go me it will always be gods country❤

Very smart , nice edition t the city 👍🏻
Agreed
It looks great a lot sight better than the old building that I remember let’s hope we can do the same for the fargate 💯👍
I wish I could remember what old building used to be there

In the 1980s we used to go to the sportman on denby street and get the coach for away game with Sheff Utd ⚔️

Went to Lykke for Sunday brunch had a lovely time 🥂🍕
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great Chicken burger at Yum Yums. 👍

Sheffield's not too bad now for things like that happening to be fair
@@SheffieldVideos Well, I certainly hope not. The sculpture's (literally) a work of art and it would be a shame if it were damaged in any way.
Very impressive. I wonder if they offer any proper Yorkshire food.
Not sure
To be honest I'm happy to try new foods anyway - more exciting!

So much change!

Looks deserved just like the city centre
It wasn't fullly open yet that day
Denby street was the Chinese warehouse spot excellent duck from a traditional cart
I remember there was a Children’s Nursery on Denby Street. My Niece went there in the late 1960’s.
Nearby The Forge
Yeh!
I had no idea about this place, so thanks for enlightening me, will have to toddle down and take a look. Not keen on the name though, seems a little pretentious :)
It’s growing in popularity as an area
No trees? A lot of road noise ( cars) - that would drive me mad. II love trees and hate car noise.
Maybe don't live in a built up modern city then? 😂

Sheffield's the greenest city in the UK!
Soulless with history and character gone. This basically could be any city now. It's more like a bling chattel farm. NPC's will love this.

Sheffield's great and upcoming
Don't listen to the moaners!
Deserted
It's like I said in the video - I was filming early before it all opened up!
@@SheffieldVideos I walk through the sq often and have never seen it even slightly busy

I wonder where all the homeless are going to kip?
Eh?

@@SheffieldVideosif you notice - all the new seats in Sheffield are purposefully designed to deter anyone laying down.

Sheffield feels like it’s been invaded by a load of Chinese restaurants, they are everywhere
There's not that many?

what ugly architecture.
It aligns to a lot of modern Sheffield then - mass-fabricated, sleek and soulless, with very little craft.
Why have they built this here ,no one really goes in this area
You’ve kind of answered your own question
It’s now busy with students and people who now visit it to eat In the restaurants
If you drive past you'd never know it was there
