Hello Kris, YAHOO, thank you very much for this RC-2 controller tutorial🙏🙏. The video finally popped by as a suggestion. This is the tutorial I’ve been hoping to find since I’m new to the RC controllers. I’ve always used an iPad Mini for all my other DJI and Autel Lite + drones. A huge thanks to You and Kelly as I’ve flagged to watch again with the RC-2 in-hand.
Nice video. Your explanation was fabulous. I don’t know who came up with the file Management system for the DJI, but they must not have had much IU experience. The DJI drones UI are great, the file system sucks. Again, thanks for the detailed video explanation. ❤❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thought I was going to go insane trying to figure this out, but it all makes sense to me now. Biggest takeaway is I need to have a micro sd card installed, formatted and setup regardless of whether I intend to use it or not, for the EXPLORE option to appear in the pulldown menu :)
Great information Kris! DJI sure did make it confusing on how to do all that! You better get that controller charged! Thanks for sharing! #DontTellMeWhatToDo #MoreConfused #LessConfused
OK but what about screen recording directly recorded on the SD card inserted in the RC2 ? That's THE main use of the RC. Why should I have to copy internal recording to the SD and then to the Mac or PC ? That's one step more ! waste of time ! That's crazy.I can then better connect through USB C and download directly to the PC. DJI seems to have - at least for now - kill the use of SD card in RC. Hope there will be a firmware update that will correct that bug. If it was to be a hardware mistake, that would be another matter. DJI is so fast in bringing out new models that they make a lot of mistakes. They sell us dreams. Btw, I never experienced any problem recording on the SD in RC1 of M3P. Why is it so fishy different with our M4P ?
Thank you, was trying to insert my card into a reader to transfer, yet the PC did not want to cooperate, Could not format either. Yet now understand that why there is a card slot in the controller and how to transfer over. Useful being able to transfer from the drone to the other card too. So I will get two faster cards and format them with the controller instead, thx for tips
Yep. Been using the DJI Mic on RC & RC-2 successfully for a while. Works really well. There are a few ways to monitor sound from the controller -easiest being a USB-C wired headset such as the AKG ones Samsung used to provide, when manufacturers provided STUFF with your purchase, like chargers, ND Filters (in Fly More Kits, etc) looking at YOU, DJI 😢
Hey John. Thanks for your comment. I'm guessing the wired headset would also have a mic built in? So if you wanted to use the DJI mic, you couldn't also use the headset?
Great exposition of the most convoluted file storage access of a software I have ever seen in my life; who designed/architect-ed this? Better yet, who approved this software design? This reminds me of Microsoft Windows in the early years! Many thanks for a great explanation!
Thanks for the excellent breakdown of a file and transfer system that appears to have been created by a 3rd grader. DJI has GOT to get better at the logical aspect of all this. To have to go thru that many steps to access screen recording audio - used by lots of us in TV production - it needs to be much more logical. What a nightmare! Appreciate your efforts at making sense of it.
I haven't tried it myself, but I've seen others use a wired USB-C mic, of another unknown brand, and record audio that way, so apparently, it's possible.
Thanks, this does help, I got my Mini 4 pro a week ago and get confused with the format button, it seems to erase everything depending on if I choose the SD card or Internal memory. I watched a video yesterday that took 40 minutes of my day and it did not answer my questions.
Thanks for commenting. DJI didn't seem to put much effort into making it offer friendly or intuitive. On the plus side, the Mini 4 pro is a fantastic drone and takes really respectable quality footage.
@@readysetdrone Thank You for replying, I was just going through my subscriptions and unsubscribing those who never reply back. I agree with you on the images and videos but as I said I keep deleting them. I have only had this drone for a week. My Mavic 2 lost power July 23rd and I have not been able to find it, I used the Find my Drone but because the battery on that drone went south I cannot recover it.
It would indeed be convenient to have a feature for downloading screen recordings directly to the phone instead of relying on a PC. This would streamline the process and make it more user-friendly.
I have an external MIC system that has Type C that I have not tried with my RC2. Kris thanks for sharing all of this great information. I think I'm less confused but I'm probably wrong 😆. #DontTellMeWhatToDo #MoreConfused #LessConfused
Hello, I have a smart RC2 with mini 4 pro and plugged in a USB mic but cannot get it saved. In the settings, audio record is permitted while using the dji Fly app. what do I wrong?
I'm not sure that I understand. As far as I know, there aren't really any settings that you can change on the RC 2. My only guess is that your microphone isn't working or the cable you're using isn't the correct one.
Thanks for the informative video, yes, it is confusing, but I hope this is not a silly question, why do you do recordings and screen shots, what purpose are they used and why? TIA.
Personally, I screen record for every flight, just in case something goes wrong and I lose the drone, I can review the footage with all the on screen elements. It's also useful when creating tutorials to show other drone pilots. Screen shots can be useful if you want to remember certain camera settings, or something, you can refer back to them.
PUZZELED BY AUDIO...Have a brand new dji mini 4 pro and a RC 2 controller and a dji Mic 2 mic system, exactly like what you were using. My dilima is ...I exactly followed your video step by step from your video, but i dont seem to be able to get the audio sound to work with a screen recording or even regular flight recording. Again did everything exactly like you showed in your video, tried several times, the video works, but not the audio, any ideas?? Thanks!
The mysteries of DJI. 🤔 I wonder if there's an issue with the usbc connection. Do you have another USB c adapter by any chance? Also, I was using the first version of the DJI mic, but I hope that DJI kept this functionality on the mic 2. Other than that, we really don't have any settings options on the RC 2 that would help.
Good stuff! Been looking for this one…more or less confused😂 When taking out taking out the sd card and using an apple so card reader to my iPad, always says no files…fix that one. PLEASE!!!!
Thanks for watching! Gotta have fun, even though we're annoyed at the software. 😉 I don't have an iPad so I haven't experienced that, but it sounds frustrating! I wonder if that is an Apple / Android issue. Is your SD card exfat formatted?
you dont need to do all of that file system stuff to get to the menu to view your videos. just tap the [ > ] play button under the record button on the main screen. its all there for your drone files and controller files using the top two menu items.
That's true, but only when you're connected to the drone. When you're dealing with local files on the RC 2, you have to jump through DJI's software hoops.
Besides “formatting” is there a way to get the SD card “tile” back into the “Notifications” section? Mine is never there, and I would rather hit “explore” than go through the other steps you mentioned of navigating the file system through “music.”
I haven't found a method other that formatting. I've tried restarting. I've tried ejecting and reinserting the SD card. No luck. Hopefully DJI will release an update to fix this silliness!
I'm not sure that I understand what you mean. Possibly, you're asking how to get audio with the video that the drone camera sees (without the RC 2's user interface). If that's the case, there's no way to do it easily. You'll have to record on the drone, record in the RC 2 with a mic plugged into the RC, then manually use the audio from the screen recording and add it to the drone recording. Hopefully that makes sense.
It is a shame they didn't include a Mic on there RC's The original Smart Controller had one but the Smartcontroller 2 and RC 2 don't yet they included one on the Enterpise version #DontTellMeWhatToDo as I may be #MoreConfused now
I think DJI does that to save on file size. I don't believe there's any way to adjust the frame rate. This controller is very limited to begin with, and the software, as shown in the video, is not user-friendly, so I doubt that they care to give us the flexibility to change the frame rate of screen recordings.

Android File Transfer for Mac doesn't seem to recognise the RC 2 any more. I have to use the RC 2 copy to SD card function, then transfer to Mac using a card reader - sheeeeesh! Pity DJI don't fix this, as it's clearly a buggy implementation of the android OS on the RC 2.
So, I've had this problem as well, recently. A workaround that I've had success with is this. Go to your Mac's System Settings > General > Login Items. Click on each item and then click the minus. Once those are so gone, in the list below, disable all apps in the background. Then restart your Mac. This worked for me... Is a bit annoying, but I wanted to let you know that it's an option.
I made a quick video after seeing your question. This video shows the RC Pro, but it should work the same with the RC2. It's a shame that this is becoming more difficult for Mac users. ua-cam.com/users/shortsBUuNnp_k-uk?si=dhm6qZxu4oM8_WuH
I've used the audio on my RC Pro controller which is a similar procedure. #DontTellMeWhatToDo I might actually be #MoreConfused but with your help I'm #LessConfused. LOL
theres an option to save directly to the SD card from the settings in the RC controller, but its just as janky and you'll need to toggle that option everytime you take the SD card out... its so frustrating, and my dads not very tech savy so im stuck doing this for eternity 😂
Good info👍. Looks like Dji has made it so cumbersome to use and access the internal storage, screen shots and the like, that for me, it’s useless and will not be using it👎
Wish the recordings had “clean” output. Without that, DJI drones will never be of interest to me. DJI just don’t seem to get how important it is to so many customers to have footage WITHOUT all the on-screen menu overlays.
I think they do have that. It's the cached recordings. Basically, when you record footage on the drone, a copy (lower resolution) is sent to the controller.
@@readysetdrone Unfortunately that footage is totally unusable also. I’m just gobsmacked that drones with “Pro” in their title and which cost as much as they do, don’t have the capability to provide a decent “clean” HDMI out. This shouldn’t even require discussion for such a product, it should be available as standard out-of-the-box, otherwise it’s no more than a toy.
Oh, I see what you mean. Clean HDMI out is only available on the RC Pro and there is a setting for that, but unfortunately it's not compatible with all new DJI drones.
@@readysetdrone Exactly! And the RC-Pro controller costs over $1,000, just for the controller! It’s mind boggling just how crazy this is, totally out-of-sync with a very large cohort of potential customers. I need a drone as a work tool, I certainly don’t intend paying DJI prices for an expensive toy, which is all their drones are without clean hdmi out to work with.
Hi Bill. No problem. Your email probably went to Kelly, but he's out of town currently, so I'll have to wait to ask him about it. If you want to email me directly, I'm at kris@readysetdrone.com
I think that is probably the worst file management system I have ever seen in my life. You would think DJ. I could have put a little more thought into it.
Im sorry but what a hassle to view pictures and video's....job well do e sir for your tutorial but ... my thoughts of ariel photography are fading if this down loading procedure to view pictures/video hoop jumping is like this, I suspect many new pilots are frustrated with this procedure as well....anyone interested in a relative new m3 classic complete with fly more package, soft and hard storage cases,65w chargersx2 never used camera or video unable to figure out screen shot transfers or adding audio to video's...to much navigating , menu jumping around...brain damage. This like new m3classic is located in Minnesota
Thanks for commenting. I definitely hear you and my frustration is shared with many, however, keep in mind that this is mainly related with this RC. The actual footage is still stored on the micro SD card in the drone, so a lot of people who don't need to screen record probably won't worry about all this hassle. To preview footage taken on the drone (while still connected) you can still tap on the media icon within the fly app (just below the record button). It's still disconcerting that DJI doesn't make all aspects of their software user friendly.
@readysetdrone so how to add audio to drone sd card footage? I don't see how video's only show usb-c microphone attached to controller to add audio which is a problem for us not so techy pilots, in my case retired no home puter or lap top just my smart phone ( not iPhone) for starters using phone wifi hot spot, its a frustrating problem, i was hoping this audio video play wouldn't be such an issue, but thanx for you incite
Oh I believe I understand your goal. If you're hoping to have your commentary over your flight footage, you could try two methods. 1. Screen record your RC Pro (note that this video is about the RC 2, so your controller will be less of a hassle when it comes to finding and transferring footage). Then you can copy the screen recording to an SD card, plug in the SD card to your phone via an adapter, and being that video into your phone's editing software to line up with the high quality drone recording. Finally, you could hide the screen recorded video (while keeping the audio audible) so that you'll only see the high quality drone video in your final export. 2. Another option is to forget screen recording on your RC Pro and just use your phone as a voice recording device in your front shirt pocket. Then when you record on your drone, be sure to film yourself doing a couple of claps on camera. That way once you bring the audio from your phone and the video from the drone into CapCut or your preferred software, you'll be able to visually line up your voice over. Neither solution is elegant, but that's all I can think of.
Im out, sale pending on my m3 classic,i hate selling it but way over my head, ill wait until Ai kicks in,suspect china will retool and streamline this video ,audio bs down the road then ill retry. Thanx again

LOL
Haha! Wow, Gerry. Way to include all of the hashtags! 😂👍
theres an option to save directly to the SD card from the settings in the RC controller, but its just as janky and you'll need to toggle that option everytime you take the SD card out... its so frustrating, and my dads not very tech savy so im stuck doing this for eternity 😂
I don't know why DJI does this to us! 🫤😆
Good info👍. Looks like Dji has made it so cumbersome to use and access the internal storage, screen shots and the like, that for me, it’s useless and will not be using it👎
Yeah, agreed, it's a bit of a pain. Thanks for your comment.
confused have watch it again lol
DJI need to do thier own OS… I really hate that android is spoiling my experience with this controller
More confused. Great video though.
Ha! I'm right there with you. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks, more or less lol
Lol 🤣
Hey, Kris. In yesterday's email I spelled your name wrong and wanted to apologize. No hard feeling I hope. I'm old school and spelled it "Chris".
Hi Bill. No problem. Your email probably went to Kelly, but he's out of town currently, so I'll have to wait to ask him about it. If you want to email me directly, I'm at kris@readysetdrone.com
Muy confundido....................

More confused...good grief the brain damage
Haha sorry!
toooooo complicated!
😄 Agreed!
Ps m3classic with rc pro controller
Thanx again
