Trying to get my grandpa's tree back popping seeds. My whole neighborhood has Pecan trees so I'm not worried about pollination. Hasn't made nuts since the 90s it's covering my whole yard. The seeds when they do grow are small black and dead or under developed My grandma said he used lime under the tree for something 🤔 but to no avail. It's a big alive tree it's 44 years old
Wow, this is very interesting. We bought a property and didn't know what this tree was but it was dropping nuts we (me) didn't know what it was (NE Tenn), growing up in HI, we don''t have pecan trees there lol. Anyway, just yesterday, my neighbor asked if another tree in my yard was the same as the Pecan tree, it was smaller but didn't bear fruit. Okay, so now I now I have two trees and the purpose of the second tree someone 50+ years ago may have planted (not sure it lasts that long) but that's how old the house/property is. I'll be figuring out how to care for both and also I was told the black maple next to one of my trees could be dying because the pecan tree is taking all it's nutrients. I'll have to figure out how to best prune all of them cause they are HUGE!
Really doesn't explain how the lone pecan in the pasture always has nuts, no second tree required, and never gets fertilized. And most pecans don't bear until they're 15 years old; some not til they're 20.
there is so many types of pecans i have seen several in my life that did bear nuts by thier self but the are real old trees you may think you have a good crop but if you had that other tree you would see a large diff .
I have a 55 year old pecan tree that went through a drought a few years ago. I've trimmed it back but it's nothing like the way it use to be. Another pecan tree has sprouted up about 2 feet away and is in it's 2nd year. Should I let it continue to grow? 😃
Correct...... as long as one is type 1 and the other type 2. Trees of the same type can't pollinate each other. It has to do with the timing of release of pollen and when the female flowers can receive it.
is it posssable for an old pecan tree to be self- polinating i know of two diff very big pecan trees thats loaded miles apart by their self no other pecan tree around them???????????
Hi.I have 2, 3yr old pecan trees.the 1st. Year they gave fruit, nuts were fairly big on one tree. The second year, gave nuts, but before ripening, fell. What next?
try adding zinc you can spray it on the leaves or scatter it around the tree out to the drip line also sotime a tree will have a promlem that maks the fall early you can buy zinc at most hardware stores tell them its for pecans.
I bought an very old house and it has only 1 old pecan tree and i harvest a TON of pecans!! Around 5-8 gallon buckets on one year and on the following year i get twice that amount! When i bought the house they told me the tree was there when the house the built! Over 100 yrs! I wonder if the tree learned to self pollinate because there is no other pecan tree around!
i can show you at least two pecan trees in the middle of a parking lot at a bank with pavment alround it load every year not another pecan tree in sight any where same town in a cafe parking lot same thing tons of pecan every year no care at all these are huge trees
ii dont think anyone knows the true ans. its just a S W A G . i think there s two diff types in my youth we had 3 pecan tress never got 1 pecan ?????moved 25 yrs later still no pecans??????? yet i knewof two diff pecans by there self were always loaded?????????

Good luck! Were glad we could help.

what is type 1 and type 2 tree...will i have a seprate pollination plant
How can you take off snaps from plants that what the trees sprinkles, and it kills all my plants, especially the leaves help😢
If I have two trees grown from seed, I don't need to worry about polination as they are two genetically different plants, right?

Also if you don’t have room for 2 more pecan trees could just buy scions and graft them to the same tree

Actually pecan trees ARE self pollinating. Watch self sufficient me.

Pecan should be by its self. What are you doing? That's not healthy.
con , conns , is how you spell ¨ con ¨ & ¨ cons ¨ . Can is spelled ¨ can ¨ . So ¨ Pe´can ¨ , is pronounced ¨ Pecan ¨ .
