I feel like older generations had many things inside their house in an attempt to fill a void, hoarding for when their personal economy would be bad, unable to detach themselves from their own history, unable to throw away things from someone who diet because of guilt, uneducated when it came to opposing consumerism tactics against them. I started throwing/moving stuff away in order to find peace and calm my mind. I don't need many things. But I need my sanity. Enjoyed this video and your process, I found my mindset with trying to clean my place work in similar ways and it's nice to see that I am not alone. Best of happiness to you.
On the flip side....I feel like younger generation is so detached from things and people that nothing’s important, so they need or want very little or nothing. Or...they come use and borrow things from those that have because they are too cheap to buy their own. Uneducated an Uncaring. The throw away generation.
@@patriciareed3510 Today's products are made cheap and built with planned obsolescence in mind. Not to mention, we don't make enough $$ to buy super expensive items right away. We have to buy the cheaply made items first (or used/borrowed items). Personally, I don't see the point in having a bunch of knick knacks around the house like my parents. It's just stuff. I'd rather spend my money on a trip and seeing the world.
The dogs look on it's face when you said 'Shall we declutter you toys? Your dear dog thought no way - just declutter you own things. Fun video Rebecca. Love from Switzerland.
My latest declutter is getting ready for a dog. Trying to see the space through her eyes, moving things around that I don't want potentially destroyed and getting rid of anything no longer needed in the process! I love a good declutter and am always surprised at how much more I am able to find.
Cheers for this, been searching for "get rid of clutter in your life" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Vanonnor Tenhloe k - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.
Interesting to see how very little you actually have, and how there is still stuff you dont use or need. You are so right. It's definitely a process and an ongoing effort. Great job. 😃
My husband is bad about throwing away my things. He intentionally threw away two small flower pots I absolutely loved and broke them in the process. And then he’s unintentionally threw away or donated a bag of my socks and some clothes. We moved and he went nuts with the declutter process. I wasn’t very happy about it but he apologized. And now he still occasionally does it when he’s super focused. It’s hard when moving, having a baby and remodeling while living in the house. lol We are more minimal now then before baby and a lot more minimal than when we first met. It just makes life so much easier to have less to keep track of. And now I can clean our whole house pretty fast which is helpful with a toddler.
Thank you for the advice on waiting to declutter again. I'm preparing to move to a new state and feeling like i need to downsize my 500sq foot into a smaller footprint and not wanting to buy once i move into the new home. So yeah I've gone on a spending freeze and will declutter after we move. 😐
You give good advice. I LOVE it when you dance with your dog. I love the fact that even though you are a minimalist, you keep @ it. I'm on it, also & I've learned, it's a process. Just like anything else, were ALWAYS changing, evolving, readjusting, reevaluating & learning. I am on a life long journey. Thank you so much for your wisdom. Much love & respect to you from St. Johns, Michigan.
I love the little glimpses of Gypsy - "nope, no decluttering my toys, mom". I especially liked the thought processes you shared in this video, like the hair stuff. I'd like to know a bit more about your kitchen decluttering - we use SO much stuff in our kitchen that it seems overwhelming. I don't even like cooking!
Thanks for watching Molly! We keep it really simple in the kitchen. Our general kitchen philosophy is that we don't buy kitchen gadgets that don't serve multiple purposes. I have a kitchen tour that I posted a few weeks ago--check that out and you can see what we've deemed "essential" in our kitchen.
Such a lovely calming video to watch. Your home is so tranquil and warm. Your hair is beautiful too! Maybe you could us the white zipped container you broke down for all your backup toiletries? I’m gonna go declutter now. Thanks for the inspiration! ☺️👌😘
Great minds think alike 😜 Thankyou it did! I am decluttering our home to find more peace in our home because all the mess stresses me out! I have been going layer by layer for the last few years! I keep thinking I’m done but then I keep finding we need less and less! Your channel is lovely! I’m a new subscriber. ☺️❤️
I love that you are passionate about your lifestyle and yet so respectful of others and their choices. Your videos are enlightening and a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing your insights and thought processes.
Thank you also for the wonderful zero waste resources you list on my of your videos. Those are very helpful to those of us beginning the process of consuming less altogether and especially minimizing the plastic we bring into our homes. I appreciate you so much!
I have 2 sets of those ikea drawer organizers that zip into shape. I have had mine for 17 years! Easy to store when not using and easy to grab when I decide to coral somethings.
Your tips are great! It is also nice to remember that decluttering is an on going process that has to be revisited from time to time. I've found it helpful to use a seasonal approach. When the weather changes, it's time to go through things. I think sometimes people declutter once and then get disappointed a few months or a year later by the accumulation of stuff that still happens.
So inspired by you. I'm at the beginning of less maximalism. I was happy to keep one kitchen worktop and the bathroom work top clear then my family came home. I currently have more stuff uff laying around from the than you have in your house! I just want it all gone so it can't be messed up. I can't wait for thr donations centres to be open again to get rid of the boxes I already have filled.
Everytime I think I have a handle on things I find a couple more trash bags to donate. I also sell clothes or extra things to a local consignment store so that's a bonus to getting rid of things.
That’s some scorched earth minimalism there. 😁 We are cleaning out our kids’ rooms and only bringing back what they want. I think they might be happy with just the new carpet. 😁 It is nice to pair down.
Thanks for the tips, very helpful. We purchased tweezerman tweezers at the end of last year as we continually struggled with bent or dull tweezers. So far they have been great.
I haven’t even looked at the general type of content you post. Your personality is so beautiful, I instantly subscribed. I’ve never done that before 😘😘😘
Hi Rebecca. I only discovered you on UA-cam last night but have already watched quite a few of your videos (probably should be working instead). I'm also vegan and although not a true minimalist, I'm an avid declutterer (let's pretend that's a word) so I really enjoyed this video. It inspired me to take a look at my own hall cupboard! Thanks.
Despite there being tons of videos about house de cluttering out there, you provided really useful new advice. I just found your channel today, really enjoyed it and subscribed. Love your voice btw 😜
New subscriber! Loved this video. I definitely do the same with deliberately getting rid of broken things (that I keep trying to make work) to force me to buy new ones! Now away to binge the rest of your videos. Stay safe. X
This is the first video I watch from you and my first impression was: she is so beautiful! I didn't know you from before and I was surprised that you had long hair before. You look good in any style. Also, love your minimalism video!
If you have a full house of stuff!! Ware would you start the decluttering? I am not a big shopper but when my husband can find something or I ask where something is he will go out a by the idem again if it was not expensive.
Not sure what clothes you use, but Amy Maryon boils them in water occasionally to remove what doesnt come out in the regular wash. This gives hers a new life.
Hi, Loved this video, just because you don’t have too much to start off with, doesn’t mean you cant re evaluate as you are going alone. Re the scanner, can I ask, what did you use it for and would you recommend it,? Thanks x
Hi Sara! I totally agree. Decluttering is an ongoing process. I used the scanner a lot in my first year of decluttering. When I had a HUGE volume of photos and papers it was helpful to get through things quickly. Check out the video on eliminating paper clutter I posted a few weeks ago...it goes into detail about my scanning :)
Wow, my dream is to declutter to this extent. My husband is a hoarder which creates a lot of mental stress for me.... The only thing I wonder about is how you can manage without a night stand? I need a place for my glasses, water, kleenex, lip balm.
That must be hard. I feel fortunate to have a partner who is on board! And you are right, we definitely need nightstands! It's on our list of things to buy.
why is my brain like this??? I'm here trying to learn things and then my eyes see the thumbnail and instantly i think "damn did you declutter your hair too???"
Nilda M. Bonilla - it depends on how old your kids are. She was talking about her husband (an adult, obviously). If your kids are younger, you can go through their stuff together.
this is ridiculous they don't own anything to declutter it looks like a sad way to live nothing pretty to look at or enjoy like living in an institution
Our house is so much more than where we keep our belongings. We learned this after living in 50 square feet for 18 months. We want to be able to welcome family and friends, and have room for our dog to play during hot desert days.

Decluttering can sometimes be stressful and overwhelming but this video breaks it down so well. The container tip is so true!
i agree!!!
Interesting to see how very little you actually have, and how there is still stuff you dont use or need. You are so right. It's definitely a process and an ongoing effort. Great job. 😃
Boil your microfibre cloths to bump them back up to their original pick-upness 😆
Seeing how little you have actually motivates me to declutter! So many things I don't need.
I went minimalist to hoarder because I watched videos like this got to a point it looked so empty I had to refill it 😂
During the stay home, I have decluttered so much in my house..feels good
My husband is bad about throwing away my things. He intentionally threw away two small flower pots I absolutely loved and broke them in the process. I love your home. I love how it’s empty but aesthetically beautiful as well. And your pup is so gorgeous 😍
Thank you so much!!
Bless you for continuing to de clutter. It is hard to be a minimalist because there is so much that accumulates in a home.
Great video. Always good to see a minimalist maintaining their home with a small declutter session. Can't wait till the day I finally get there.

You are so organised. Looks amazing. You are pretty good.
I am motivated. Thank you.
Thanks for a video that isn't a huge declutter. I find now I've done alot, I don't have as much to go through..... although WAY more than you have 😆💙

I mostly donate it. I thought about starting a poshmark but I’d rather donate.
Nice
If you sat under the overhead lampshade it would look like you, with your dreds in an updo. In case you're missing them.
LOL
I am missing them!! Glad to know I still look like me even minus all that hair!
Where is thr cabinet from with the climbing gear and dog stuff??
It's from Ikea. We designed our own based on our needs...it's called the Pax system I believe.

Why is there no art in your home? No art, books, music?
I don't understand what she's "decluttering". Tidying up maybe idk
lol
She's getting rid of things, she just doesn't have alot since she's already on her journey
Cristy Luv - getting rid of things is “decluttering“. Tidying up is just putting things away. Pretty simple.
this is ridiculous they don't own anything to declutter it looks like a sad way to live nothing pretty to look at or enjoy like living in an institution
Why keep a big house if you are living minimally anyway?
Well houses should be more than just storage closets no? Ideally they would be places to just 'be'
Our house is so much more than where we keep our belongings. We learned this after living in 50 square feet for 18 months. We want to be able to welcome family and friends, and have room for our dog to play during hot desert days.
