Reminds me of a large oo exhibition layout I used to love, GCS quarries, but on a small scale. You could make the loader operational for extra fun. Great stuff
Fantastic job, as I said previously I think it's your best layout yet. The extra detail and weathering, while simple and subtle, make a massive difference to the overall realism.
I'm old enough to remember when Strathmore board was a common material for building model RR structures (at least in the USA). I've been thinking of building an Inglenook Sidings layout using British models, so this project is great timing. Cheers!
Good morning layout looking awesome I've been up since 3am gaming on my ps4 wide awake now youve inspired me to sort out my train layout again cheers bruce
I pick your technique for the backgrounds, I have an adress that can print wide sheets of paper in color. One variation you can do with your wagon loads, it's to have some with larger building stones rather than the cobblestones loaded ones we see there. And, if you can get, or manufacture, a flat wagon, you can load it with a huge lintel stone, or a round grindstone. That would add prototypical variety.
Really like the main quarry loading building. The green finish is superb. Also glad you weathered the track, looks great. You could still move that point a little bit to complete the shunting without the HoG. That's the advantage of not ballasting. Looking forward to seeing the Class 33 bringing the train in, have you got the end of the run round fitted with a switch?
That’s brilliant!! I especially love the green corrugated building. You’d never think that was just cardboard... it looks so real. I’m a newbie at this and this has given me plenty of inspiration. Liked and Subbed. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thats great, thanks for watching and subbing. I was rather pleased with it, probably cost me about £3 to make, cant imagine how much a Faller or resin kit would cost £30 plus? We have lots of videos and ideas, enjoy!
We have lots of videos on various topics of how to make stuff. I'm pretty much self taught I just give it a go and it usually works out, most things are actually pretty simple when you get down to it
How about some simple sound effects?? I bought a greetings card message recorder thing from Amazon (£10 ish) and recorded a Union Pacific train going over a crossing off UA-cam. It's sticky backed so I put it just out of sight under my layout. Brings another dimension to the model. All the best Anthony.
Very nice indeed! Are you planning to join all these small layouts together to make a larger one, say, in your living room even if only on a temporary basis. Would be fun to see though :) Again I appreciate all the work you do for this hobby, it's inspiring and I really enjoy your videos. Best wishes from Canada to you and your family.
The layout looks great!! I love the detailing touches. Your son is right in getting imagery and visuals out from the internet. I have been able to download the images and reimaged them through photoshop. You can even create signage and other imagery from scratch without paying an "arm and a leg" to get them when store bought. You've inspired me again to do some more detailing on my current layout. Your videos help me a great deal and I look forward to seeing them. Take care and stay healthy to you and yours.
Whoa did you guys upgrade your camera? Looks like it's super HD or something which is lovely. I really enjoyed watching this BIG update you guys did, very nice indeed! I agree with your point when you said it's a bit more than you normally do to your layouts but since we are stuck at home, I'd say it still fits the budget model railway theme. The whole weathering question I was going to ask was answered in this update which is awesome. I look forward to performing such tasks on my own. Harbor layout? Hell yes! I cant wait for this to be up! A good watch as always, and many thanks. Hope you guys stay healthy and occupied! Much love from the U.S.
Wonderful video, it's really satisfying to make something for model railway out of the most inexpensive materials, and I have to say it's amazing what can be done on a small layout. Thanks for sharing.
Again, I love this little layout! I was thinking, if you want to make cheap track stops, you could cut 5mm lengths from some scrap track you have, cut it diagonally and stick it at the ends of the stub tracks that are visible.
That is absolutely fantastic love the layout as always. Taking some ideas to use on my loft layout got the urge to build a little shunting layout now too...
that really is brilliant...i keep thinking this is the best yet...but they r all...the best yet equal....how anyone can not like this,is beyond me...cheers..ade
Thanks Ade, we have a couple of rivet counters who just automatically dislike every video we make, they are terribly sad as one of them goes to the trouble of getting notifications just so he can dislike the video, I don't think he even watches them?!
Well done Douglas on that backscene, looks superb. I'll give that a go myself when the time comes for fitting the backscenes on my layout. 👍 on all other progress going on. Stay safe . GWR
You could make it so a large freight locomotive brings in the hopper wagons. Then the large freight locomotive parks up in a siding on the layout. Then the shunter brings the wagons into the unloading facility. Now the wagons are unloaded, the large freight locomotive takes them out back on the mainline
Too bad I'm caught by my job with the "essential worker" line, but lucky for me I finally got things going and should have a railway up and some content of my own soon.
Thanks so much for posting these excellent videos! They are something I look forward to, especially in this season of social distancing. The quarry layout is exceptional - quite realistic with good operating potential. Do you have a video that explains how you made the rock face?
This turned out great....as expected. Great work. I guess all of our builds are progressing a lot quicker than normal at the moment! Looking forward to the harbour layout updates. During the last Q&A Doug was going to put up the email to submit layouts for your Virtual Exhibition, I think I must have missed it, can you please confirm the best email to send them in. Cheers.
Its gaugemaster ballast mat, javis also make a good one although usually we just use roofing felt. Any kind of ballast mat has many advantages over traditional ballasting
@@BudgetModelRailways Cheers, thanks. I am new to this hobby and tried a small shunting layout first. I found the ballasting quite hard around points, so this option sounds good.
this is definitely one of your better layouts (although, as we all know, no layout is ever bad) sorry I missed your live stream, had to see a relative in hospital fortunately nothing to due with virus by the way, when will you paint and run your 3D BoBo diesel?
another idea is that you could use those brown ore wagons when running older diesels such as the 08 and green 06 and bagnal, you could also paint up one of your little railbuses and use it
So many tips, proving it isn’t necessary to spend silly money on bits! I do like the 4 wheel diesel
Thanks for watching

Possibly your best shunting layout so far!👍😁
Thanks, is the culmination of what i learnt making all the others
The painting makes a huge difference here even if it is only minimal.
Also glad to see the toilet rolls haven't been nicked yet :-)
Track looks great! And that corrugated building is outstanding 🤗👏
Thanks

I have some flat wagons and a plan to use foam board to make large stone items
Really love the scenery and buildings on this one. Fantastic
Best shunting layout you`ve done so far methinks
I agree, its a culmination of everything I learnt from making the others, esp the track plan which has masses of operating potential
Great authentic scene...colouring make a difference to any scene & just seen model made with paper clips ....
Really like the main quarry loading building. The green finish is superb. Also glad you weathered the track, looks great. No need for switches as the points switch the power. I was rather pleased with the loading building considering its just card
Could you run one of your steam locos on the quarry to perhaps show the old quarry loco before it was replaced by the diesel?
I have a steam video planned. In fact industrial steam survived long after BR steam, well into the late 1970's early 80's alongside Diesel power.

The middle portion of the back scene is very eye catching; the shading effect is awesome - can almost feel the shining of the sun. 🌝
Thanks
A superb layout👍👍Looking forward to the harbour one as well.
Video out Friday hopefully

Harbour layout base board is built and track is down so hopefully video out next Friday, all the best to you and all our friends in the US
My dad bought me some of your merch for my birthday it made me happy, good quality merchandise too
Glad you are happy, thanks for watching
I keep wanting to get the wagons but getting thwarted on the chasis online.
Keep trying,patience is the key
That is brilliant and in such a small space. I am looking forward to trains shunting, thank you both for inspiration.
We have a video of shunting it with more planned. Thanks for watching

Looks so awesome, can’t wait for you to start the Harbour
Harbour baseboard is built and track laid, hope to have a video out next friday

Hi Ade did you get our email about the virtual model railway exhibition?
That looks really good. Thinking of making my current project into a quarry now.
I do like your green building.
Thanks, the building was cheap, simple and effective.
Well done Douglas on that backscene, looks superb. I'll give that a go myself when the time comes for fitting the backscenes on my layout. 👍 on all other progress going on. Stay safe . GWR

It looks really good and the backscene is excellent - Most enjoyable video ......Cheers Kev
Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! 😊❤😊❤😊
You have really inspired me to work with simple & inexpensive materials!!
Thanks glad we could help, have fun
Love this! Another great layout 😀
definitley my favorite shunting layout you have done, keep up the good work
Thanks, and thanks for watching and commenting

I have shunted that movement a couple of time using my class 33 and 35

Thanks. I do but its a long way back in our listings. It was resin , then painted with emulsion , black wash , dry brush with a lighter colour

Budget Model Railways Just re-sent
Hi, really impressive layout. I am trying my first proper layout and wondered how you did the ballast base, please. Keith
Points are challenging with traditional balloting, however hard you try. Its the main reason we switched to ballast mats
this is definitely one of your better layouts (although, as we all know, no layout is ever bad) sorry I missed your live stream, had to see a relative in hospital fortunately nothing to due with virus

How earie, have just painted it up in BE blue!
That should be BR blue! Damn auto spell!
wagons look great have you thought about trying to construct some hopper wagons they would look great with track ballast
We have hopper wagons in our range
Looks great 👍
Thanks
For the country layout what about the background of the South Downs with long man of Wilmington as a nod to the local area?
Nice idea, thanks
How do u 3d print the railway models and put them together u talk about in couple your moives could give some advice to build layout
We have a couple of videos Doug has made showing how we design and print and videos on our website of how to assemble them. Hope this helps
Looking good what ever happens to your n gauge layout ?
We have up on N a few years ago, too small, fiddly and expensive
Really nice
Thanks
were do you buy wagon chassis
EBay, classic rail is worth a try, exhibitions etc
How did you make the toilet rolls?
3d printed them in white filament
Could u do a build tutorial on the building u showed
We have quite a few videos on making buildings. Its a fairly simple structure covered in corrugated card, nothing too complicated. Just give it a go.
Hello please answer. HOW DO YOU MAKE AN 0-4-0 RUN AROUND WITH THOS PLASTIC POINTS
With no difficulty with the newer chasis
PS, you need to use Peco not hornby points
How about the name Coro National Aggregates or Coro.N.A
Lol
