It's amazing when you pay attention to these videos and notice just how few plugins they have on their sessions.
This guy needs his own UA-cam channel!!!
Couldn't agree more on this. We need more content like this!
that would be great
Joe West presets are frigging awesome!! Waves are you hearing me? Joe West needs his own suite!!
Shot out to Travis Thibodeaux, as a kid with his dad in “Deuce of Hearts” a two piece band, he played drums and keys at the same time setup up next to the hi-hat. It’s always good to hear how great he’s doing being we from the same town.
It really helps having amazing sounding recordings to begin with 😀 great mix too though.
That was one of the most relaxed tutorials I’ve seen in a while ....answering a lot of questions we’d like to ask .
Really enjoyed that mate ...thanks 👍
Please give us SO much more Joe West!! Would love to see him during the actual mixing process!
This is one of the most helpful vids ever: allowing us to listen and watch a well-known, humble engineer/producer's insights and thought process while he is working (and yes, I see the two well-deserved Grammy Awards in the camera shot 🏆🏆. I only have Pro Tools and the dog). It would be nice to have more raw track contests recorded by a PRO. This Mix It contest was fun and a great experience- even though Waves told me I came in a three-way tie for last place ☹
Inspiring overview; thank you sir! Well done indeed.
Well done Joe West...Great song and sweet mix. Like the attention and care you give the drum treatments and the extra hits on the Chorus Drops!
That is such an AMAZING space to record.....one of the Best I EVER seen anywhere!!
Hey Joe...Great song and excellent over-the-shoulder style video. Killer repeating delay on the snare gives the song movement and juice. Well done indeed!
Very insightful. Especially the use of the C6 and Kramer at the mix bus. World of difference.
Joe you are an orchestrator!! The way you arrange and build songs!
Thanks Joe insight on the mix! It was a great joy to mix this track during the contest period. This was a great song, overall the song moves you, and that's where it's all about!
Awesome video Sir,
The omni's at the two ends of the barn knocked me out. Your approach to mixing is soulful and takes me straight to flavortown. It's always a pleasure to see and hear a master craftsman doing what he loves and has tremendous passion for. I remember when I was first coming up in LA, masters like yourself were very reluctant to pass on their expertise; yet you do it with style and grace...very rare commodities these days...Thank You Sir...!
Had a great time mixing this
very nice! thanks for so many cool tips! cheers
Just stumbled onto this video. I appreciate the explanation of each plugin used.
Nice track, great tips and beautiful studio Joe
great video had fun mixing on this song during the waves contest its a pleasure watching joe work
Thanks Joe!
Watched every minute and appreciated the details shared. Thank you!
great results with very subtle processing, the recording is great too, nice song
always loved the way country music is mixed.
I like the song the studio apoligize amazing keep.up the great work
I really enjoyed mixing the song. Very catchy song and even after mixing it, it's still in my head... Lol Happy New Year Joe West and Waves!!!
Many thanks and happy new year Joe and Waves!!!! Cheers, Jeroen Simons, Independent, ex-Epica.
I really enjoyed mixing this track. This was the first time I worked with country.
Joe West writes a lot of great Country songs. But this track isn't REALLY Country. - It's "Country-Flavoured Pop"
That's what i call a great sound !we can dream !
I love your mixing but most of all I love your dog in the chair. Bless!
Very inspirational
Cool Studio
jesus what a studio
Hi Joe, love the great video, love your honesty, I’m normally a RnB kinda guy but I love the song it had a very modern contemporary feel to it . Mixed all in the box more or less ? Waves plugins it just goes to show the kinda quality that’s accessible to us all these days, great job very informative , Thank you
Kit sounds great! (ATF)
Enjoyed going through the plugins and micing strategy, insight into how another producer's ears work and the decision making process is very useful.
I do the same with Amplitube (guitar / bass) - start with a preset that's in the neighborhood, then tweak from there. I wish I could say I know what every amp, rack effect, and pedal sound like together in every variation, but I have a different day job. lol Shortcuts make finishing a song in my lifetime possible.
Nice vid. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy my Waves plugs very much. Using the Omni Channel now.
Jealous of your space, JW. Nicely put together, and the barn reverb is amazing. You should sell that as a plugin!
Great tutorial thank you
I entered this competition.. let me win this thing! :D
That snare is legit.
This guy right here
Reverse snare is MONEY
Awesome studio dog. I know an engineer who takes his dog to work. When you can take your dog to work without issue, you know you got a high quality A1 dog.
The West barn is as cozy as it looks.
that kramer tape. my go to for vox bus. little bbit of slap and crank up the record knob.
thats great...:)
Great video! He didn't show the most important tracks processing though.. Snare and lead vocal
Good presentation Joe thanks! How many submissions were there for #MixIt ?
Nice video ! I was confused is that the naturally sound of the room?
Awesome session! What model are those horizontal monitors and headphones btw? Thanks! 🙏
the song already sounds great at the start
This is my biggest complaint about these mix sessions. The material they start with is already incredible.
@@MoveUpMedia well it was already mixed at the start…you can see he’s already got effects, automation, and the faders are already set. He’s just showing you what he’s done. And of course starting with quality signals is going to do more than anything else could.
Anyone noticed the Original Mackie HR824's that he is mixing on? :)
Nice .. when do you announce winners of the contest ?
the sound of cheese whiz.
Waves Audio, thanks for this awesome video! Does Joe West mix into C6 or does he add it after the mix is done? Thanks
Has to be mixing it. No way is he gonna slap on a multiband that's taking off 6 db of top end after the mix.
How much talent and good taste there is in Nashville ... I wish i were there!
I used to live there.....I miss it SO bad!!! There's a reason they call it "Music City!" It has more music than L.A. Or NY and is a fraction of the size....and it isn't all country, either, though that's the obvious top genre. There are clubs, musicians, etc for EVERY genre from Metal to Electronic....but there is a Very healthy and Vibrant *Rock* scene...at least one of the Very Top Rock scenes in the nation!! I LOVED living in Nashville...it's a special city and I hat d to have to leave (had to for family) but I am Definitely going back Asap!!! If you live music, Nashville is a GREAT place to be!!!
Thanks for your comment! You make me want to know Nashville more.
Thanks for your comment! You make me want to know Nashville more.
Where ya gonna put your grammy?
"Where's the camera gonna be focused?"
the dog does not care)))
Neither do I ... the song sucks
I hear some reverb on your speaking voice. Is that the natural sound of the room you are working in or did you add some plug-in reverb to it?
It's the room.
I must say I dont get it... why mixing here ???
Is there a reason he refers to what the C6 is doing as "limiting", instead of compressing..?
I know it has knee and attack and release, but what actual ratio does the C6 use..?
Either 10:1 or above
MUITO BOM SHOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
what headphones use this producer?
those are most likely Shure SRH but I couldn't tell you which model
If I close my eyes I ear Joe Bonamassa
i entered this
let me win lol
Is this basically a really long Waves ad ?
I mean.... it says Waves at the beginning of the video......
A re bouzouki!
10:05 you mean cha-ta-ta-ta lol (from office)
Why is there reverb on his voice
I just wanna sit on the couch with the doggo ...
It looks like your studio is made of sesame seed hamburger buns
Sup with all the reverb on his voice?
It's the barn's natural reverb.
Filip Suciu I thought that might be the case. Must be hard to monitor in there! But he obviously knows the Space by now
not feeling this im going do this mix over I wish i could do the contest
What about the comments
Dont't use analog gear or amps?
Sounds like Human Nature from Michael Jackson.
Did u put reverb on your speaking vox?...Hope your control room is not that roomy sounding .lol
Without NLS?? 😮
Yo I kind of like this song, sounds kind of like a Christian record!
Jeez this sounds like he’s mixing in a church, I guess he’s using headphones so it doesn’t matter haha
So, Kieth Urban's hit songs are mixed with Bass Guitar Direct Injected into a Computer, and then 2 Plugs. A Plug In version of an 1176, and a Plug In Waves Amp Simulator that's not even set on Bass Amp, but a Guitar Amp all with neutral settings.. I somehow highly doubt this. There is no 'mixing technique' demonstrated at all.
lol you have no clue.
It seems the tutorials use a lot of really badly written religious songs. Cannot listen to them long enough to get to the lesson of mixing.
Sounds cheesy
Kyle Christopher like all country music...it's a pre requisite.
It’s pop country. It’s supposed to haha
the drums sound really phoney
roman14032 Oooorrrr.... They’re being played by a really good session drummer.
this song is unlistenable
yep, i feel sorry for all those ppl praising his mix and his 'talent'
finally someone with ears.
I must agree... it's a song that sounds like a computer/robot put it together. Yuck. But that's what (radio) Nashville wants.
uses a limiter instead of turning his speakers up? hardly an engineer more like a gamer
While this is an excellent mix it leads to the problem with current Nashville and most other modern music..A solid wall of sound, Way too many instruments and no breathing room. As DAWS become more powerful and more tracks lead to more tracks and more compression we have a sine wave of music. This is of course just my opinion and I long for the 8-16 track days of country music. Merle, Jones, Pride etc. Now what was that on track 87..oh..
It was a sad 😔 day when pop creeped it's way into country music... Kept noticing you referencing pop singers and groups. I think you intended this to be a country song. That being said you got a nice setup.
Is this a joke? THIS IS HORRIBLE. THE SONG, THE MIX, EVERYTHING!
Am I the only one who thinks this mix is terrible?
