I liked how Ethan was an average joe who literally went out of his way to save his missing wife. I found him likable in 7 with his one liners and his inexperience in the face of danger against the Bakers. 8 really made me really a big fan of him to the point I think he's one of the best father figures in any media.

funny back when I first played RE8, since I did get the optional leg re-attachment cutscene in RE7, when it got to that moment where he re-attaches the hand I remember wondering if the healing items in these two games were some kind of side-project of umbrella or the connections, and the vague "chemicals" added to the herbs were why those potions were so effective. once I completed the game, I did enjoy the "mold ethan" explanation, and it makes me think that "Good" he says when he re-attaches the hand and many of these lines are a form of denial on Ethan's part. like he's not sure about what happened to him and he knows something is off, but refuses to address it between the games because he knows whatever is wrong with him can come in handy if his family is in danger again

Before RE8, I had a pretty big conspiracy worked up in my head considering Ethan's revealed face. The light hair looking almost slicked back along with the look on his face made me think he looked eerily like Albert Wesker. It made me think one of two things at the time: Ethan is one of the Wesker Children or is a Wesker Clone. I leaned more towards the Wesker Children considering he didn't look EXACTLY like Albert Wesker. I thought perhaps he was taken away by some outside party before he could recollect anything and was raised like any other normal kid instead. The Wesker bloodline would explain why he appears to bear no negative effects of Eveline's infection. Even after death, Ethan appears to be more capable than he was before. Taking on the long infected Baker family and prevailing in short time. Sadly, we may never have confirmation or denial of this since Capcom has made it clear that they've moved on from the Winters family.
maybe he wasn't a Wesker child, but was the result of a possible secret experiment made with Albert's dna. he was the only one who managed to stabilize any of the crazy RE viruses into giving himself superpowers while maintaning his mind more or less as it was before he got his virus superpowers. I would expect someone would've gotten a sample of Albert's dna to try and accertain how the virus worked so well with that dna, possibly even synthesizing a vaccine out of it and injecting it into fetuses that were still in development, as an attempt to not lose the progress done by Albert's research? just a theory lol
It's baffling to me that people think the "Ethan is mold" thing is a retcon considering his hand and foot got cut off in RE7 and he just put them back on. Not to mention his other hand getting cut off in Village.
Ethan is a normal guy who only wanted to save his family, and I love it. He's mostly normal given that the mold infected him, but other than that, he's the most normal out of the protagonists in the RE series, which is great.
That is why I love Ethan and re7 they felt true survival horror games and characters. They saved the re franchise and put it back on its feet. I have a theory that Ethan could have been a new scientist or researcher for umbrella but escaped or left after he saw what they were doing behind the scenes with the other b.o.w.s weapons 🤔 think about he knows how to mix herbs and chemical fluid together and make healing items or medicine and he says that should do it when he finds the box with the d series ingredients in it not questioning what it is or how it got there so he knows or possibly has seen the d series b.o.w before maybe in umbrella 🤔 then he faked his death to escape from umbrella core and got a new job as a software engineer and married mia winters that would explain why Capcom keeps hiding his face even his character model his face is hidden pretty strange 🤔🤔
I personally think Ethan was infected with the mold long before he entered the guest house because in the dlc we see the bsaa soldiers wearing gask masks and hazzard suits so the mold could have been airborn or in spurs 🤔 so maybe when Ethan got out of his car he breathed in those mold spurs and the mold started to change Ethans body but kept him human.

I really loved the Winters saga of the Resident Evil franchise, but I’m content with where it ended and hope they leave it as it is. I’m ready for either new characters or old favorites to return.
Well, maybe because CAPCOM wanted to reveal that plot twist later. Or for one reason or another, Umbrella hid his association with Wesker either to stay hidden from the public and Chris, or because the name Wesker comes with bad reputation.
Ethan may have some secrets that some assumed are related to his job and there's no time for him to process everything ever since terrible stuff happened so unrealistic for him once he entered the Baker property. His psyche changes as he witnesses the horror of the Mold infection with the Bakers. I guess this is one thing that I find so odd in this video. He just being ignorant about it since there's no time to worry about it in the first place, ever since 2017.
i never found it funny clever or interesting we couldn’t see ethan’s face. i know we still develop a connection with him. but ima be real the only reason i got a connection is bc i found out WHAT he looked like. i understand the first person horror aspect but it was just a bad decision IMO.
That’s understandable, but seeing a character’s face doesn’t make me automatically connect with them, it’s their actions that do. There’s a ton of fictional characters that ain’t worth my time caring for and they’ve been around for years but can’t express any emotions and are one dimensional at best.

People kept egging Capcom on and wanted 3rd person for some strange reason so they eventually added it, which I’m sure wasn’t the original intention and they just wanted it in first person which is why you can’t fully see Ethan’s face while in third person perspective. There’s a ton of fictional characters that ain’t worth my time caring for and they’ve been around for years but can’t express any emotions and are one dimensional at best.
@@evilredfields i enjoyed re7 but re8 was just not supposed to be first person. it was just annoying and you can literally look at him in 3rd person. and see his face. it was just annoying.
@@jesstality yes, it was supposed to be first person. People kept egging Capcom on and wanted 3rd person for some strange reason so they eventually added it, which I’m sure wasn’t the original intention and they just wanted it in first person which is why you can’t fully see Ethan’s face while in third person perspective. I preferred the first person aspect more for RE7&8.
