I always preferred Hank. He has his faults, but he doesn't have a huge ego. He knows he doesn't understand everything. Peggy's biggest flaw is definitely her ego. Even when it should be clear she's messing up, she thinks she's 100% correct and everyone else is wrong. When she gets herself into trouble, she usually just keeps digging herself into a deeper hole.
Hank has his issues, but I always felt he generally has his heart in the right place most the time. Even if I disagree with him, he usually has some kinda semi-understandable reason for it. When he's wrong, usually it seems like he learns something by the end of the episode. Also they really tend to focus on how much Cotton just really messed him up as a kid. You don't get as much of that on Peggy's side of things, but with Cotton there was always a reminder that Hank had a horrible childhood. In contrast, it feels like Peggy is always right or strives to be right, even when she's wrong. She rarely seems to learn lessons, and her reasons for doing stuff.. don't tend to make sense, like they run purely on her own 'Peggy Logic'. I really don't feel you can say they're equally bad or flawed characters, even if they have very similar flaws which lead to similar stories and problems, Peggy even more in the later seasons always seems to go off the deep end compared to Hank.
Frankly Hank in the first season was just plain intolerant to a hated level while peggy was the favorable one in general. Then as the show went on peggy became more and more of what you said in the video to the point many hoped they killed her off in the parachute bit. Hank on the other hand actually got more and more tolerable and reasonable as the show went on.
I much prefer Hank to Peggy. Hank has his faults but is more likeable. Hank is just incredibly repressed so I can see why he is like he is sometimes. Peggy just has a HUGE ego.
To me, I prefer Hank over Peggy for the simple reason that outright stupidity and ignorance coming from someone with an ego who thinks they're smart is less tolerable for me to watch than someone with bad morals. Lupe's Revenge is hard to watch because while Peggy is messing up, she's also not learning anything from it. She genuinely believes she can do no wrong, from beginning to end of the episode.
the episode was trash like the way they could have made it better is have peggies ego shattered like glass and have her relise she did something wrong the onyl episode i seen this in is the jail one where she gets a letter from the prison about one of her students she should have been smart enough to know it wasnt true and from his accent that she never taught him and she does learn somewhat of a lesson but to behonest hank is the straight man and more down to earth in his views and his ego is not as big as peggy plus hank knows he doesnt know everything but he tries to give advice as best he can unless its uncomfortable for him hell even then he tries even when you can tell he really doesnt want to
Thank you! I get it if people just don't like Peggy, but when someone wants to come off like she's the only with flaws or Hank is a much better parent/character in contrast, it drives me nuts because he has his flaws too. I know in particular the episodes where Hank forces Bobby to do something (take that one fitness test for PE, take up a paper route, join the track team, ect.) it kind of bothers me. I know he's just trying to teach him responsibility and how to be a better person when he grows up, but sometimes I really think he goes too far in how he thinks Bobby should live his life. I get that's the kind of character Hank is, but it's still something that's just always bothered me about him. So yeah, I think people need to realize that both characters have certain bad traits just as much as they have good traits.
(long reply ahead) Its hard to say. Hank and Peggy were likable in the earliest seasons. Sometimes I sided more with Peggy than Hank. As the show went on, i was kinda siding more somewhere down the line. Hank does things to benefit himself or benefit those who are in the wrong (like when he found out Buck was doing something highly illegal and sabotaged the police's plan to bust him) But there's times he sees the error of his ways and goes out of his way to support whoever needs it. Peggy on the other hand rarely sees her faults. She does when its come to the cost of someone's well being or destroying something in the process (when she decided to fake her own death and Dale's death by blowing up Hank's shed, just to get out of selling Cozy Kitchen items). By the next episode she's back to her old ways (after Lupe's Revenge she still thought she was an ace Spanish speaker, even as far as to say the Spanish customers calling in were not good at Spanish, fully aware she was answering for Alamo's Mexico branch). There were episodes I sided with Hank, sided with Peggy, saw both of their points, or sided with neither. For episodes like "Church Hopping" neither one was right (though Peggy never really got a say, it was both of their actions, but more Hank's) I tend to look at more how they treat their friends and family. They both have a different way to raise Bobby, but Peggy tends to be the better parent. Hank forces his son to be in sports , but doesn't actually want him playing the sport. He forces Bobby to go down a different path than he really wants to (pretty much manipulating him to pursue a career in Propane selling than anything else, though Bobby shows shining skills in things like culinary arts, comedy, and so on). Peggy, though extremely self centered, encourages Bobby to be himself within reasonable limits. He can like Christian Rock and wear fake dreads, but piercing his ears was the breaking point. Sometimes she leads him down the wrong path and goes too far. But she learns from her actions. There's been a couple times where she's called Hank out for being too hard on Bobby or forcing him to do things that didn't interest him. With Luanne, they were kind of a hit or miss. When Luanne got awful roommates, Hank told Luanne she was just like all those roommates she had (the ones that refused to pay rent, never cleaned up after themselves, took total advantage of Luanne, referred to her as Hitler, etc. Luanne never did this to Hank when she lived with him. She was very respectful, sometimes made mistakes, borrowed his truck without asking BUT fixed it in the process) But Hank still cared for her. Luanne was mainly manipulated by Peggy (while Luanne was under anesthetics after having her baby and saying she wanted to name the baby 'Lasagna' again, under anesthetics and having Lucky as a husband, Peggy decided to technically name the baby after herself, giving the baby's middle name her own name, 'Margaret'. She still cared for Luanne as the daughter of her jailbird twin brother and alcoholic, abusive sister in law.
As individuals, these two would make awful characters. But I think seeing their relationship on screen is what always made the show interesting to me. How their situations make them act differently and how the weigh the importance of love. Many times Hank has broken his fears or insecurities because of love, and Peggy is called constantly vigilant to keeping Hank healthy. You know what would make a GREAT character clash? A Sonic Boom three way comparing and clashing the egotistical characters in the Sonic Boom cartoon. (Sonic, Knuckles, Eggman, and to a lesser extent, Amy)
Alpha Jay Show If you want help writing it or researching it. Let me know, I've seen all the episodes up to date and have experience writing for a few episodes of other UA-cam Channels. :)
I much prefer Hank to Peggy. Hank has his faults but is more likeable. Hank is just incredibly repressed so I can see why he is like he is sometimes. Peggy just has a HUGE ego.
I love Hank to death, but Peggy is far more entertaining. Also, she doesn't seem to learn much because of her ego. Hey, since we're discussing a Mike Judge show, have you ever seen the Goode Family? When it first premiered , I took it as a bizarro King of the Hill. Looking back, it this weird how the show predicted the social justice climate of today. A bit before is time i think. You should do a review.
Just discovering your channel, but I wanna say that this is a really great idea for a video series. I especially like how you include tips on how to write these types of characters at the end. More specific to this video, it's actually kinda caused me to start looking at these two characters a bit differently. I never realized just how similar they were to each other, and it's actually kind of brilliant that they are. I've never been a Peggy hater, even if she is insufferable sometimes (the fact is, the things people hate her for are things that we're meant to mock her for, generally, although I still understand why some hate her because some episodes really push those insufferable traits way too far), but I would still say I prefer Hank as a character.
Also, at least Hank saw the error of his ways in the episode "Who's the Dummy?" and I loved it when he built the little Bobby. Although Hank was really the dummy in that one, despite Chip being the puppet, you see what I did there?
I spent a good chunk of time redesigning my channel page. Now everything for the most part is good. Also, I put in a counter-notification for my latest Family Guy review. 99% sure they will back off now.
Their problems are similar, but to a much different degree. Peggy work Bill till he bled before she realized what she was doing was wrong. She also used him and caused him to bankrupt himself. Hank played videogames while his son did lunges, and in the charcoal episode, he did concede and let her choose. Yeah, she chose propane because she knew it would make him feel better, but when has she admitted her Spanish might not be great? What he did there is comparable to that. Also with the whole sex ed thing; the show really seems to ignore the first season later on, as it’s stated that Hank apparently gave Bill AND Dale the sex talk. Mostly in hand gestures, but as a guy who isn’t comfortable with such things, what more do you expect? In the end, they’re both flawed, but Peggy is by far waaaaay more flawed
Bill of sales was bad because we saw Peggy stop pushing bill when she saw how much he suffered. Also the episode where Peggy is jealous of Bobby for cooking a good meal are the best example of her narcissism. I admit she does have some redeeming qualities but man those are hard to overlook.
I really hated when Hank said to Bobby "Of course you're failing home ec, you're a guy!" I wanted to kick him in the gonads, especially when he said "If Bobby learns to cook and clean for himself, what's his motivation to get married?" Then again, he did have Cotton for a father. Though I can forgive both Hank and Peggy for their ignorance, since they do have genuinely good intentions, maybe because I'm just that naïve. But I like to think I have good moral values. Yes I can be a hot-head, but I'm quick to apologize for my outbursts. I'm also always willing to improve, Peggy on the other hand is not. Besides, you said it yourself "How can I feel empathy for someone who refuses to improve?" Then again, I don't remember Hank willing to improve anything in his life, wait, he did say he needed to call his mother for knocking over her mailbox on Halloween, so he is capable of regret. What was I talking about again? I feel like I'm writing an essay, or an E-mail or something
In my opinion, I prefer Peggy over Hank, because even though Peggy is ignorant, I feel like Hank is also ignorant in a less obvious way, which is my problem with him, since at least the show knows that Peggy is wrong, but at the end of the show they always try to make it seem like Hank is right, even when he really isn’t, like in the episode Bad News Bill, and at least Peggy will usually care about her family, but Hank has implied several times that he’s ashamed of his son, Bobby, he just wants to get rid of Luanne, and that he apparently does not know how to feel emotions, or even how to pay attention sometimes when people are sad.
Does hank genuinely love his wife? He said to bobby if u learn how to cook what’s the point of a wife Does he just want a wife so he won’t have to do those things
that's a good point. also she is the only girl he ever dated, it seems like he never really had any passion or feelings for her and it was more about fullfiling a role he had in mind for himself as a one day being a responsible family man. she was just a means to achieve a family and only caring for her later as thats part of the role he's playing out.
I would not say Hank is a better parent, he has issues expressing emotion and being supportive of things outside his comfort zone. Peggy however for all her faults is normally good at being open to new ideas and as a result more willing to let Bobby actually pursue what he's interested in. They really need each other to parent properly.
YOU GO ON TOO LONG, THANKS FOR NOT DOING IT ON CAMERA. UH, YOU JUST AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH WITH WORDS FOR THIS KIND OF IN DEPTH CRITIQUE. KEEPING IT LIGHTER AND SHORTER WOULD HELP A LOT. GOOD LUCK.

Hank has this bubble of ignorance likely stems from his social circles, Peggy has this air of arrogance rather than ignorance changing her morals based on gains and appearance. I despise huge egos, especially when paired with blatant ignorance and arrogance.

Thank you for commenting. :D

coolchrisable I wish Kahn's wife Mihn Would beat the fuckin Shitt out her!
#HankShouldDivorcePeggyHill
Kaka Karrot Kake don't we all know people like that.
Kaka Karrot Kake I HATE "Lupe's Revenge". Peggy is so stupid in that episode that I want to punch the TV if I see the episode airing. 😡
Peggy's most brave act was taking on Luanne's mother and kicking her ass. I gave her credit for that one.
Blue Collar Crypto that's one of my favorite episodes lol
Turn down for hwat!

Alpha Jay Show If you want help writing it or researching it. Let me know, I've seen all the episodes up to date and have experience writing for a few episodes of other UA-cam Channels. :)
There's just one rule: when referring to any Sonic the Hedgehog property, don't use the term threeway. There's reasons for that, trust me.
Which character do you think is better: Hank or Peggy Hill?
Alpha Jay Show Hank.
Hank Hill is more likable
I much prefer Hank to Peggy. Hank has his faults but is more likeable. Hank is just incredibly repressed so I can see why he is like he is sometimes. Peggy just has a HUGE ego.
I love Hank to death, but Peggy is far more entertaining. Also, she doesn't seem to learn much because of her ego.

+ThisUselessHeart2 That's fair. I'm just glad that you gave the video a chance and kept an open mind. Thank you for commenting.
The thing is hank seemed to grow and develop as a charector (mostly but everyone has their flaws) peggy declines massively
Also, at least Hank saw the error of his ways in the episode "Who's the Dummy?" and I loved it when he built the little Bobby. Although Hank was really the dummy in that one, despite Chip being the puppet, you see what I did there?
"Note the date that this was posted"
But the shows already over
+D-man the captain Then I shouldn't have any problem. 🤓
Hank at least typically learned something in the end, and his character did change in significant ways over the course of the series, for the better.
I spent a good chunk of time redesigning my channel page. Now everything for the most part is good.
Also, I put in a counter-notification for my latest Family Guy review. 99% sure they will back off now.
Have you seen the Amazing world of Gumball episode The Choices?
Casual CraftMan thats a great lil cartoon man!
They deserve each other.
+Aaron Grier Agreed.
Hey! Peggy jumped from a plane to see/help with DiDi's baby!
I dont get what this video was about but I like King of the Hill alot!! Thanks for talking about it
It is comparing the personality traits of Hank and Peggy and showing how they work together to make the show.
Jake the Dog (Adventure Time) VS Bender (Futurama)?
I never hated Peggy, myself. I mean she creates good conflict while being stubborn. Its good for story telling
Their problems are similar, but to a much different degree. Peggy work Bill till he bled before she realized what she was doing was wrong. She also used him and caused him to bankrupt himself. I still remember when she thought a NATIVE MEXICAN CHILD Was her student, On a Field Trip
Admittedly they are similar even in their negatives 🤷🏾♂️
I know ive seen EVERY one of your KotH videos.... Doesnt mean i cant watch them agaib
I always preferred Hank. Despite his flaws, I believe he was way more interesting to follow and far less annoying.
King of the hill is my second fave animeme
Alpha Jay Show can you review League Of Super Evil episode Once Upon An Episode.
OMG that show was so awful
I really hated when Hank said to Bobby "Of course you're failing home ec, you're a guy!" The worst Peggy Hill episode is Peggy’s Fan Fair. That episode has Peggy’s big ego become out of control.
Peggy's hilarious..Jahoooonnnn Redcorn

Team Dale
All of the main similarities are Texans in general lol
Dammit Bobby!
I love fanboy and chumchum
Does hank genuinely love his wife?
He said to bobby if u learn how to cook what’s the point of a wife
Does he just want a wife so he won’t have to do those things

I think struggles with most of his emotions in general
Because of a future episode?
I guess I prefer Hank only because he is a better parent. But I don't really like either of them because to me they both have shitty opinions
I would not say Hank is a better parent, he has issues expressing emotion and being supportive of things outside his comfort zone. Peggy however for all her faults is normally good at being open to new ideas and as a result more willing to let Bobby actually pursue what he's interested in. That's quite debatable
I think that Peggy has her moments. They're both fun characters to watch
I’m pro Hank.
hank isnt perfect, but im not gonna bash him, despite me bashing peggy.
hank has good intentions, peggy does not.
Eh minus some extreme examples which Hank has as well Peggy typically has good intentions as well, not really sure where you got the idea she doesn't.
tell me how she meant well in the episode where bobby took over the kitchen.
Me: Hank or Peggy Hill...? I choose...I choose...Pearl from Steven Universe!
Alpha Jay Show: What? That's not a choice.
we get it... you hate peggy......
Your missing the point moron
@@TheAscendedOverAchiever god damn.. This was posted three years ago? Guh.. I feel differently about this video now.
I always hated both of them.
