Thanks for this Nick. Really useful. I use the QC too but still learning how to get the best of out it and this was so helpful to watch. It’s hard to pick this stuff up unless you have someone who can share! ❤
I’ve had issues with output volume getting jacked up when getting reverb anywhere past 40% post amp. It doesn’t seem to do it at all in front of the amp but it can get too saturated. Now that the quad has blend blocks I can have a lush verb that doesn’t spike volume too bad.
Nick, thanks for this info. Very helpful. I use your Helix patches on Sundays but found those huge reverbs we use in contemporary music seem to get muddy and "lost" in the mix. Do you have suggestions on how to dial in reverbs so they're still big and huge but don't get lost in the mix? This is a real-world / house vs. recording kind of problem. Also, any suggestions on how to use the global EQ for a particular room? I currently have a bass cut below 150 or so, so I'm not conflicting with the bass and piano. Not sure if that's the right approach, but we tend to have a muddy mess as it is.
thanks! I personally would just had a lo cut (it may also be called a HPF high pass filter) of some type to the reverb, hopefully whatever reverb that was used inside the preset you have, it will have that option ( I believe most do) and that usually helps a lot with muddiness when adding big verbs. But be carefully that the high's don't overwhelm everything so you may have to a hi cut on it too. (it may also be called a LPF Low pass filter) As for the global EQ, I have found that if I set it how I like it and showed in this video, it has worked really well no matter the room. I generally have the sound tech give me a flat EQ on the board and all is great. But as I showed in the video is how I'd suggest it and that is how I run it.
@@austynstokes6405 you definitely want it to be somewhat similar, but don’t try to set them the same. You wouldn’t want one more gained up than the other. Each amp will have its own voice so the difference in the voicing can be good or bad, so pairing the right amp is key. I’ve tried many together and some are just really bad combos no matter what you do to get them to mix well together.
@@lukeconner it took me a while to understand that there are differences in amps/cabs. I’d just mess around with stock stuff and find a tone you like if you have a modeler of sorts. But then start tweaking on it after a few weeks or so and see if you can find a different cab you like. But you also don’t have to change anything so don’t feel like you have to, if you like it you like it. Do some research on that particular amp/cab combo and enjoy the rabbit trails. If you don’t have a modeler try to get to a guitar store and mess around with some amps and see what you like. Also if you like a guitar player maybe try to mimic their amp/cab/gear combos.

Good stuff and very practical for most situations. Thanks!

Great info. When using a Tele the single coil hum gets amplified and I”m constantly riding the volume. Do you use a noise gate for this?

I notice that you don't use a Noise Gate. Is that just because you tame the gain in other places?
Sorry for the late reply! I do use one when the gain gets to be a bit much, but I typically have very low gain actually and don't need one.

When using two different amps how important is it to adjust the eq settings on both amps so they’re similar in gain, treb, mid and bass?

Interesting video, but it really only applies to people who have a Quad Cortex.
Quad cortex is really just modeling an analog setup so the same principles apply.
Are you running xlr or 1/4” into the Apollo?
