Just bought a 2000 Civic DX hatchback, 5speed completely stock in every way, with 175k miles. It's my favorite car I ever owned, more so than my old RSX Type S.
Sounds like she has plenty of life in it. Amazing how wonderful these were
I got lucky with a 57k-mile Civic CX
this car is a good example of a time capsule!
She is in tip top shape (paint and tint withstanding). I look forward to bringing back to it's former glory.
The square hole is for storing extra bullets for your firearm. LOL That's what I use it for. Nothing else fits.
Lmaooooo that’s one use for sure
I owned a 1.5 LS V-Tec. By far the most reliable have I've ever had. Never let me down, owned it for 9 years, just simply serviced it and drive. Such an economical and bulletproof engine.
They truly are tanks. Fill them with gas, change the oil, and they just go go go! Thanks for tuning in Marco!
Here in Australia the best model Civic is the EK 1 1995-1998 they are priceless !!!!
One of my favourite EK civic videos on UA-cam.
Had to come back and watch again, as I have just recently bought a red 96 CX hatch!
Damn!
Thank you so much for the kind words Daniel, really appreciate that. Congrats on the purchase, you got a LOVELY machine!
Back in 1996 when I had this exact car (but black), i used the small storage hole next to the radio for my Nokia 2110 cell phone. It fit perfect.
Incredible. Great use for that spot Marcel.
I graduated college in 2003, so I remember these and other similar cars. It was “a thing” for several car markers in the 90s to only put tachometers on cars with automatic transmissions. Yes, it was crazy!?
That little box on the dash… most people couldn’t find a good use for that besides coins and yes there’s a dedicated change box on the left side of the driver’s position.
My college girlfriend had a ‘99 4 door and they’re incredible cars.
thanks for the in depth review, this was pretty much what I was looking for for days except that its a hatch not a coupe but its practically irrelevant. great video man
Hell ya Ryan, thanks for tuning in! Happy to help.
just picked up a midori green 96, very in love
Just picked up one of these and drove it home... Very slow on the highway but it has some character for sure! I’ll be doing a turbo build on my channel! I’m so pumped!!
Hell ya man, congrats! These rock. Lovely machines.
@@MoneyShift Thanks a bunch!
my granddad has a dx coupe for me 2 states away, and I'm planning on driving that back home although I just started out driving and got my permit very recently 😅
Just bought an EK4 that needs some love yesterday, just because of nostalgia and its more fun than a new boring budget car.
I finished it... just need paint :-)
ohhhh baby! Congrats J.
I subbed for the great content 😎
Appreciate that, more videos coming soon!
The small cubby hole in the dash is for loose change for tolls, parking etc.
Brilliant. Remember cash transactions?
My girl used that for napkins when she hopped in , I didn't even realize I had it tbh lmao
@@phoenixfeather1337 Shoutout to your girl for being an innovator. Genius haha
I always saw them being used to hold packs of cigarettes.
Crazy i have the EJ9 with 75HP and i have the rev gage. I got it with 86k km from a girl that lives here and barely drove it. I tuned it with 90HP seal, new bigger intake, Del Sol seats and engine flush, new oil, short shifter, spoon shift knob and cut a bit weight. Its really fun! Looking forward to alu rims and bigger tires, tuning springs to lower it. Its really the perfect beginner car to get into tuning! Its drinks so small amounts of benzin and really kicks if you want to! Next step is a better clutch and lighter flywheel! :D Greets, i let an abo there. :-)
And its nearly rust free^^ the whole under body has a anti rust skin and the other little rust parts got repaired by me. Also brace and anti roll bars help the car really much^^ I have the 1.4. Liter without Vtec sadly. But with a little amound of money i m going to install the minime upgrade soon to make around 120-130 hp Power!
@@max.racing Is changing the intake gasket enough to get 90hp? I heard some ppl say you also need an ecu from a 90hp civic as well to get the full 90hp.
@@mehmeh7075 Look up my channel, I have an vid with 75hp and 90 hp. I did the gasket swap and did an ECU reset. Its noticable, but i dont know if an 90HP ECU would be better. I think they are probably exact the same like the 75HP ECU because the Honda dealers did the Gasket block after the Civics came out because they thought 90 HP is to much.
Greets.
What a freaking beauty beast of a car
A time capsule for sure. Lovely thing
the space by the radio is meant for holding paper clips, and other small items.
You think that's something? I had a 1988 Honda Civic, and the sideview mirror was an option (an option I didn't have)
A year ago about my 96 dx coupe... With a 104000 miles on it Everything Is mint condition And yeah I have been modding it little bits here and there since I've got it Didn't do much but that thing is definitely not slow anymore... It doesn't take much to get these cars to go quick
Agreed on all counts here. What I always say is fast DOES NOT MEAN fun...these cars are a hoot...whether they have 100 HP or 300HP, doesnt matter. I adore them.
Superman compartment in your cars is a ashtray
The whole next to the radio I believe should be a clock
That’s a popular answer! I’ll have to find out
In 1980s UK cars DeLuxe was the base trim name for most cars
It is here as well! It was just always funny to have a term like Deluxe imply it being a base!
Nice
i have a question can u add an Rpm gauge next to the speedometer on the 1998 dx model? because i have that model if so how?
Hey! I am by no means an expert on these cars, however, it is often cheaper to replace the entire cluster from an equal year Civic with a tachometer. I took one from a Civic Si. It is important to note the redline of the tachometer might be a different one than your engine, but at least you can see how high it is spinning.
Honda Boi, you can change out your instrument panel for one from an LX, EX, SI or as I did, get one out of a similar year Honda CRV. It is plug and play and looks a bit nicer in my opinion.
I believe area where hole is was for a clock.
That would certainly explain it!
I think the hole next to the radio could’ve been a space for an optional clock?
Hmmm, wonder if that could be the case. Any photos?
@@MoneyShift looked it up on google and found this: www.edmrareparts.com/product/edm-96-00-civic-ek-lhd-dark-grey-top-vent-dashboard-edm-vti-sir-em1-ek4-ek9-si-2/
Look through the pics and you will see a clock. Maybe it wasn't a US option but not all radios had clocks in every country either.
@MrAdditionelle well there you have it! Looks like you are 100% right! Thanks for the info
Back in 2012 when I had mine, an iPhone 4 fit perfectly in it!
Can anybody Tell me if the automatic gear as realiable as engine is?
I think the hole next to the radio is for loose change.
Could be!
I always say, if your gonna go for a model, go for the best version of that model. IE. I daily a Honda Del Sol, So I got the 97 SI (vtec top trim) So I have the better seals, dolphin front, and rear disk brakes and fully power optioned. I got my 99 DX because Better front end, and Double din!!, Then my 05 WRX Limited. I wanted a blob, and the 05 had the better interior.
I usually agree, however when it comes to a video of this vintage, a clean one is a good one regardless of trim!
I have the cx and it have powersteering, ac and abs brake.
is it an automatic?
@@TheRyanator36910 no
I found one that was perfect fully stock a day after watching this video
The Civic gods have shined on you! That rocks.
I have 1996 original owner all original like new never winter driven
I'm looking at a 2 owner, 97 hatch DX with the manual trans. Paint fade but it's all stock! Has 255k on the odo. and like new tires. What's a good price to snag it up?
@@TRD_Cueto I wouldn’t be surprised if they want $2.5k
@@txic7330 yes! Asking 2600 and think I can get it for 2400. No rust and AC and heat work well. Just a stock hatch. Think I should snag it up?
i just found an 1.4 for around 400 bucks, just wondering if it's worth as a first project
100% filè. Great car. Endless aftermarket, really reliable. Gìa 400, you can’t go wrong
Yes!
@@MoneyShift look at my channel i have videos of driving it!
I found one of these with no rust on it but it's 1800, do you think it's worth it, or do you think I could get something cheaper?
Hey Quintin!
I certainly do. As the years go on, clean rust free examples of this gen will be harder to find. 1800 is a great price, and you'd have a solid platform!
@@MoneyShift thank you! I'm having a VERY hard time. I'm between a SER Spec V, a 96 dx hatch and a mazda 3 sport hatchback. I think the SER could make a awesome potential tuner car.
@@quintinfertig89
Honestly you cant go wrong either way. Ill caveat it with this. The SER Spec V will be the fastest car out of the box, of the three you have listed, but where it loses out is on aftermarket. The support for the Civic dwarfs a lot of other cars.
Meaning Where you might have two exhaust options for the Sentra, youll have 10 for the Civic, and the same holds true for bumper options etc etc etc. So while they are all 3 amazing cars, and the Sentra will be faster out of the box, if you plan on really personalizing and making it your own, few things beat the Civic.
I’m trying to find a automatic Honda Civic what would be the best option
Why auto?
@@jaedenshilko779 I’m a disgrace and don’t know how to drive stick😭
If you have any desire to learn stick, these are wonderfully easy to do it on. Why? Not only can they take the abuse, but it is some of the most communicative stuff out there. If you want to learn, give it a shot!
I think that little storage compartment was for cigarettes. After all, it makes sense why it would be so small
Makes a lot of sense!
Yeah all the manual stuff is super durable
Built TOUGH!
1996 DX that little cubby in the dash was for the change or if you’re me its for your cigarettes and lighter
I daily one w 335k miles everyday. Mine has power steering tho?
One of the lucky ones! haha
@shaneclipse97 What trim and is it auto or manual?
I have a 96 hatch dx with auto and that has power steering
good video.Halp so much
Thanks Zinka!
Would you recommend me this as my first car ?
For sure! It’s reliable, massive aftermarket support, good on gas, and parts are easy to come by if it needs repair.
My dream car..
its my first car! I have the cx model, and I just absolutely love it. Not a good ride, Not super nice to drive, but so much fun. Who has a 96 civic hatch? They’re so cheap, and so cool.
@@b20will83 Ahh see I think they are LOVELY to drive! But agreed, super cheap..super cool!
I like the 95 always wanted one
Highly Recommend. They freaking rock.
Car for sale? Lmk interested
Ek9 the best car ever made in the world!
Its a ej9 , ek9 is the type r version
I rarely see that body style of Civic
Definitely most popular as a sedan. But they are out there
@@MoneyShift I just got a '96 Civic coupe.
Supposed to be a clock in there
That hole is for a pack of cigarettes
Makes perfect sense
That what I use mine for too lol
I had a 5 door..a 3 door & a coupe of that style. ..they are the motoring equivalent of a cockroach...the 1.6 coupe VvT was the best of the bunch the 1.4 5 door was under powered & the 1.5 auto was not the best
3:03 for condoms
If you drive a civic, the woman will chase you!
Who needs a tachometer?
Honestly, if you owned this with zero intent to mod it...you don't need it. That is the truth. It is very easy to understand when you need to shift, but as someone who has never experienced a car without it....it was quite jarring.
Money Shift I leaned to drive stick on an 87’ ford escort, no tachometer. Go by feel. Or sound... granted I like the addition of a tach on my new to me -98' dx. Had a 93 cx without tach.
@@dw4940
And the beauty of cars from this era, is it is relatively straight forward to do so. You could hear and feel all you needed to execute!
The tach is just a really nice quality of life improvement! Excited to swap mine out soon.
I had a 93 mirage as my first car no tach
@@MoneyShift totally agree. Didnt know its so easy. Rather have a tach, but dont have to have one..
99-00 civic hatch looks and is better
We call it EK here in asia and the price is around 5grand for a beaten up one and 10grand for a mint D series and 20-30grand for the SiR and type R
I have a ek SiR keepin it mint and oem for the timecapsule feel.
Our ek's interior look alot better than the usdm's
We call our variants lxi(nonvtec) vti sohc 1.6 127hp and SiR dohc vtec 160hp. These cars are fun with proper wheels and tires, tune up, and suspension.
Nice vlog! Subscribe to me to my channel is allabout jdm cars too!
The hole is for ciggies
Noooo. Didnt even watch video. 92 to 95 hatch is wayyyy better. And if you got a 96 you need the midori green.
