yes, steamed/boiled it's perfect when paired with dipping sauces. The taste itself is rather mild, the texture is the high point. Like an artichoke. Yeah, actually for lack of a better reference, it's like an artichoke. But less watery.

In all of Asia except the Philippines , banana hearts are regarded as vegetable , eaten RAW in salads . In the Philippines, it is thoroughly cooked in meat stews to rid of its very astringent "stick to the tongue" flavor. We love it in salads with thick coconut milk ,onions ,chilis, anchovy fermented paste/ sauce and vinegar or citrus as dressing.
They are Cambodians..We aslo cook banana flowers in our soups as well

That looks so good! Us Vietnamese love shredded banana flower in noodle soups. We have a banana flower salad too, but it’s always been cooked (boiled). I’m salivating with this recipe! I will definitely try it, but will make it vegetarian. Looks like you used boiled pork skin and meat, boiled mini shrimp (I’m sure regular shrimp/sliced can be used), fish herbs, fresh sliced shallots, fish sauce, chopped chili, sugar, lime juice, a good squirt of vinegar (?), fresh/young banana flowers (nice and white inside), and lots of toasted peanuts. Yum😋. Thank you for sharing! My family has so much fish herbs in the summer that they don’t know what to do with it! This recipe will help eat more herbs! Love it!

Soak banana flowers in water with salt and lime then drain.
Ingredients:
Banana flowers
Three layers pork
Shrimps
Lime juice
Vinegar
Fish sauce
Msg
Sugar
Red shallots
Red chilli peppers or any peppers of your choice
Fish tail herbs, mint herbs, basil or what ever herbs you prefer
Toasted peanuts...mix well. Enjoy it with your favorite drink:) They are drinking Soju
