Having owned a few Yamaha units in the past i was dissapointed with the Modx. Great sounds and features but I needed this as a standalone unit (no live performances though). I heard all the praises on all the reviews, but the sequencer is as important as the sound set quality to me. The last update appeased me & fixed a huge gripe {pattern sequencer) . Still not being able to play and audition sounds while recording was beyond annoying. I was eagerly looking to sell today and then...I stumbled across the Update inforrnation. Looks like it fixed my issue and added even more sauce to the mix. I may never love another. Modx may have just become my dream keyboard.
Can you share what you found to resolve that issue less fortunate skilled guys ! Thank you wud be greatly appreciated to many of us Modx beginers ! Thanks again !
@@allenhart2449 which part? The firmware update solved most of my deal breakers. You can now select instruments during playback and record. I Still can not live mix with effects from the mixer view. Eq still makes you stop sequencer. Double tap on Rec button still goes to next song. And forgets unsaved changes on previous song. If you remember your instruments that data is still on that track. Re-add them and any mixer changes. There is a random bug on the volume mixer where a track is unaffected by the volume slider. Have not figured that one out yet. Let me know if anyone knows why that happens. What area are you having trouble with?
Thanks for this very helpfull video. Why Yamaha didnt just put this in the user manual I dont know rather than referring to another pdf somewhere else. I look forward to your other videos as much of the stuff on this keyboard is well out of my comfort zone, as in I never used a synth before. This was a lockdown impulse buy to grow into for me :)

Had to select 'JOB' before I could access the Format feature; spent an hour going thru Yamaha manuals to find this (Reference Manual, page 202, 'Job' switch). I noticed you did not do this, any idea why not ? Also as you covered backup, was surprised that you did not cover restore too.
Hi John - Sorry, just seen this now - I guess my mistake was in assuming people had seen my earlier videos - OS2.0 update video covered restoring files and in the very first video I mentioned the "job" function - something for me to keep in mind for future videos...

I can confirm the USB stick is important, after trying out multiple sticks I bought the cheapest one at a supermarket and that one finally worked...keep trying guys it will eventually work
With my MODX8, I have version 1.10 (A little behind getting it updated). In watching the video, you state that you should update to version v2.0 prior to updating to v2.5. ok? But I do not see the V2.0 download on the internet. Huh… Here is my questions then: 1. Is that really correct that you should update to version v2.0 prior to updating to v2.5? Or did I miss understand you? 2. If correct, does someone have a version of V2.0 that I can download to use? Thanks for your help.
Hi Scott, you're right, V2.52 doesn’t mention this anymore,however,if you want to play it safe, Yamaha US does have V2.0 if you search under firmware/software updates…

The latest update always has all the updates from the beginning. If we made our customers install every update or go back and get the ones missing, that would be way too complicated and way too much work, and that's why there's only one on the download page." So, I proceeded with the V2.52 MODX8 update from V1.10.0 and another MODX8 at V2.00.1. Everything updated as expected (thanks for the video) with no issues. Thanks again, Scott
It would be straight forward if my pc could unzip the 2.5 update in the first place. But it says the folder is empty and another window says it's invalid. I've downloaded several times. The pc can unzip an old 2.0 updater but not the 2.5. I'm stuck. Suggestions???
Hi Allen - if the file size seems a similar size to the 2.0 updater try a different zip utility? - Failing that try downloading from a different site US/UK/Japan etc - good luck!
The MODX uses the FAT 32 format - which some computers only recognise up to 32Gb, but 64Gb drives and larger often come pre-formatted, so some clearly do recognise them. Try putting the drive into the MODX and saving anything to it - if that works OK, you should be good to go with your update...

Is it necassary to use the code card that came in the box at purchase to load the Cubase A1 ? Please help new at this not computer literate for navigating devices yet or an it be loaded directly from yamaha site to laptop without code that came.in the box !
Hi Allen, I'm guessing (as I have Cubase Pro) - that yes, the code card in your box would be needed to authorise Cubase Ai. If in doubt, give your dealer or Yamaha a call to confirm...

@@waveform-synths oh and for other modx owners to load the single file from the bulk file once its unzipped to install 2.5 or newer updates ,downloading the whole unzipped file to install the update will send an error code
And that's when loading the update to the flash drive to load and update the 2.5 or other updates to the modx ,again the one separate update file from the unzipped folder to flash drive off computer and take that flash drive and plug it into the host on modx power up while holding utility and increase (inc.) buttons at same time then turn power on
I've tried downloading the file several times, but when I try to unzip the file, it gives me an error "unexpected end to archive", but im able to get the program file out, but no Manuel, and I get an NG error when trying to install the formatted USB to the keyboard
It fails to download the entire file a lot of the time. I've tried loads of times and the most I've got to is about 70% complete. Not sure if there's another way to get the file, but I've emailed Yamaha about it.

Big thing when using pattern sequencer is to link store the pattern so the broken link turns blue after saving to usb drive.

You need the "job" function "on" in order to format a USB stick. Please add that info to your video.

To format a usb does it have to be brand new? I dont have an uption to format my usb and it is just called usb 1

I think the DX is drawn from the DX7 - hence MO...DX,
In the English language, 'X' is pronounced as 'ex'. So it becomes MoDeeEx :-)
The Yamaha reps call it, 'Moe Dee Ex.'
I much prefer to call mine "Moe Dux"

you can just format the usb drive using fat32 on your windows computer

In settings you can reload defaults so that should help you out hopefully.

Its an old-style PDA stylus - metal with a plastic tip - you can still get them on Ebay...
