  • KolorBond and uPVC go hand in hand...
    Listen up, folks! Are you tired of your boring white uPVC door? Want to give it a sleek, modern look? Well, I've got just the thing for you - KolorBond Original!
    I'm back again to show you how to spray your uPVC door with KolorBond Classic. In this video, I'll be transforming a white uPVC door into a beautiful RAL7016 anthracite color. And don't worry if you're a beginner - I'll guide you through every step of the process.
    First things first, we need to clean that door until it sparkles. Then, we'll set up our trusty HVLP spray gun (if you're not familiar with that, check out my previous video). And finally, it's time to start spraying!
    But wait, there's more! If you want even more tips and tricks, check out my uPVC window video for more info.
    And last but not least, the question you've all been waiting for - how much should you charge for this kind of work? Well, that's up to you, my friend. Just don't forget to factor in the cost of the KolorBond Original and your precious time.
    So what are you waiting for? Grab your spray gun and let's make that uPVC door shine! (Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post, I just really love KolorBond Original.)

    You must be earning too much money, turning up in your Tesla to the job ;-) Very informative video. We are completing on an onward house move this Friday, and it is a probate that needs a ton of work. First job is to make the outside front look much more appealing. Many friends have said do the inside first, but as we will be pulling in and out of the drive numerous times a day, we want the front of the house done to give us a lovely welcome each time, so I'm researching spray painting the windows and door and garage door to the front. This is by far the best video and explanation. I'm not sure I am ready to take the front door completely apart like you have, but in for a penny, in for a pound and all that jazz :-)

    Hi Phil, I'm new to your channel as I stumbled across it the other night while chilling out at Butlins in skeggy(the life hey).....
    I've just bought my first sprayer(Graco gx21df) and I'm going on a paint tech course next month. I've been watching Pete from Paint HQ(I'm guessing you might know him).... I've learnt so much from him and now your videos are also helping immensley. Going through each step as you do really helps us. I'm hoping in the near future you get a kitchen spraying job, it would be great to see you doing one of those. I aiming to be able to put my brush down and spray literally everything I do within a few years as I'm knocking on a bit and rolling ceilings out ain't helping my neck.
    Looking forward to you next videos. Good luck 👍🏻
    P.S £250 is about right, imagine it being done in Kensington. I'd be a grand.....

    • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator
      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  2 роки тому +1

      hello and welcome. Yes I know Pete and Ian, plenty of time for them, they know all about spraying so you'll have a good time with the guys there.. Jack as well.
      If you look through my other vids you'll come across a bit of stuff you'll want to watch, that will give you a better grasp of things.... practice is the key though.
      Kitchens.. yes done a few now. I've put a couple of photos on the COMMUNITY section on my main YOU TUBE Channel page, click my profile photo should take you there.
      There's nothing complicated about it once you learn how to tape up well and once you know you machine inside and out.
      I still mainly cut in and roll walls... easier for touch ups later.. and spray as much as i can, but some jobs it's not practical... in some situations.
      The GX21 is the same pump unit as my GXff.... a great bit of kit.
      Remember, if the paint is too thick. and you struggle spraying... either move up a paint tip size, or thin it to match the tip you're using.
      If a bit thin... drop down a tip size (the orifice .... the lower the number - ie: the last two numbers on a spray tip- the smaller the hole.. the bigger the last two numbers, the larger the hole, so it lets through thicker and more paint)
      Match the gun filter to the tip you're using - I have a vid on tip sizes and the number. Seen that yet?
      Nothing wrong with Butlins Skeggie.. my sis and her husband were there a few weeks ago. had a great time. Me... we did Crete lol

      That all makes sense and thanks. I'm binge watching all your videos after the lad goes to bed. Never in my 20yrs in the trade have I been so excited to learn something new within it. I've completed a fair few jobs this year where nearly all of it could of been sprayed in half the time. Replastered houses all gutted. New builds etc but I've done them all traditional way. It's time to move with the times and try to make it that bit easier for ourselves.

    Interesting...
    I will talk about prices in Spain:
    A PVC door panel like that, with a decorative glass on it it is 700€-800€ white.
    Anthracite foiled and new would a 100€ more.
    That is the price for the final customer.
    A litre of Dupont painting for uPVC is about 35€ (price for industrials), and you do need to add hardener and solvent plus the special products to prepare the pvc surface which are quite expensive (Dupont-Cromax).
    After all that you have to charge your labor, transport, tapes and the amortization of your equipment...
    Your price is a total bargain in my opinion...
    That said... I understand there is competition for this specific job in the UK, while here in Spain there is no demand so there is no offer... and I guess that situation make compels your prices to be lower...
    🤷🏻‍♀️

      The KolorBond I used in the vid didn't need thinning to spray, it's like water.
      I'd just check direct with KolorBond just to make sure it's suitable for the metal garage door. I wouldn't want to give advice just in case.
      Their Aquatek is waterbased and may be better suited, check with them

      I used AllCoat exterior in satin black.
      Have to say the results were very impressive.
      I did three coats, 1st as a base over any metal 2pac filler that was needed. Then two nice slightly thinned coats using 1.8 needle set.

      Hi. You wouldn't do this sort of spraying with this product with an airless sprayer.
      Kolorbond us geared for HVLP or compressor spray set up.
      More control, you can dial down the paint flow to get that mist coat on.
      Removal of the door is easier particularly when you remove the panel. Having it flat means you can easily get around or the edges you can easily miss if upright.

    • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator
      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  3 роки тому +1

      I mainly use Tikkurilla, it sprays lovely. Waterbased.
      Depending on what it's going on .... You may need a grip primer or stain blocking base/grip primer.
      Then I'd use either Tikkurilla Helmi or Everal finish paints.. always use the correct matching Under Coat though.
      For Helmi, use the Helmi UC primer... Then two coats of Helmi 10, 30 or 80 finish.
      Everal can be used outside as well as inside.
      Everal UC primer. Followed by the Everal finish... Two coats.
      I also use Farrow And Ball
      Again... Prep is key and the first base coat/primer need to be corrected... Then f&b undercoat... Then the two top coats.... Either Estate or Modern eggshell.
      Modern eggshell has a bit more sheen and harder. So ideal on woodwork and cabinets.
      Does that help?

      My hvlp is a smaller unit to move around than my compressor. So handy when in peoples houses and taking up space In the van. But same principle for spraying, I'd say nothing in it. More a case of what you can afford or like to use.
      As mentioned in the video. The first coat is a fine waft coat, it not there to cover. It's there as a base grip layer for the next coats going over it.
      2nd covers more and 3rd was almost a finish. I gave it another as I had enough paint to give it extra.

    Do you think the graco ultramax would be capable of this?

      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Gavin. I wouldn't want to give you the wrong advice, but I think the ultramax is more like an airless, What psi does it spray at?

    • @GavinMcC
      @GavinMcC 3 роки тому

      @@ProfessionalPainterDecorator max psi is 13800 but still not sure if it will work

      @@GavinMcC I'm not sure either as you need low pressure really. The compressor set up and hvlp spray quite low... Around 50psi.... Which seems to suit the KolorBond.

    How do you price a job like this one?

    • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator
      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  3 роки тому +1

      It's one of those price the job done. Not the time taken.
      How much would a new colour door be?
      But over charge and you won't see nay work.
      I pay £26 for my dentist to count my teeth.. I'm out within 8 minutes.
      You need to charge for the skills offered.
      Does having wallpaper cost more than having a room painted out... different skills cost more.
      What were you thinking you'd pay for a door re coloured?

    if you think u can just buy a turbine sprayer and start this type of work, well dont bother!!! Ive been a sprayer for years, and i can tell you the paints on the market dont work unless your prep work isnt 100%, and grey is a colour that will naturally fade, this is a job for professionals, i do this type of work but never windows insitu, I work for upvc manufacturers and offers guarantees!!!!

    Why not just spray the door where it is ? Save so much time !

    • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator
      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  3 роки тому

      You could do. But I wanted the panel out anyway so it was painted/sprayed all the way across, so it doesn't show when it moves where the rubbers are or it would show a white line around it.

      @@ProfessionalPainterDecorator , I am just starting out spraying ,and didnt want to break a door by taking this panel.off . Also taking door off adds extra few hours to the job !.
      Also spraying a door horizontal is.much better , because you will get a LOT less DUST in it ! I used to spray cars and we.would take bonnets off and hang vertically for a better finish !

      easier to spray horizontal but larger surface area for particles to fall onto, less surface area vertical but more chance of runs.
