Say what you wish dudes. It's a "Free Country" in this music business (regardless of the genre). As far as I can tell *OPETH = Mikael Åkerfeldt* is one of, if not the only one band that can play anything: *Metal, Progressive Rock, Lyrical Ballads etc...* and never fails to deliver top notch music which I dearly love. Be it *Opeth* from 60's, 70's, ......... up until now (2018), I still tip my hat to the genius of Mikael and the rest of his bandmates. *"Do What You Love* guys *The money will follow". In short, just be yourself, *The Opeth* !!!

I can't believe I just now realized this, but I could definitely hear some of Opeth's music working really well in a Castlevania game.

This channel is getting better every day. Nice video production.
Mikael Åkerfeldt is a genius. It is shame that everytime i see something from Opeth, it begins the discussion about how their death metal aspect is gone forever and not seeing how talented these guys are. They are an incredible band and every good band in the history of music needs to change or evolve. Influences and styles are always changing. It is something that we all experience in life.
    Saludos.

+Javier Jones Wow thanks so much for the nice thoughts and for the support! We love Opeth, old and new. This is a series about progressive bands and it would be hard to argue that Opeth are not always evolving, progressing and pushing the envelope.

Don't get angry Metalheads, that Opeth genre change is Great cause they knew how to preserve their composition quality, as a many band fan Is hard to find a band cause many which change left their best behind and refreshstart with less Great songs.

What the heck is ”itunes” and being able to purchase particular songs only? I think maybe Mikael is stuck in 2003 when it comes to how people consume music online. He did say just a few years ago that he had no idea how spotify works, and he still collects vinyls like a demon. All very charming btw.

Maybe because Fred is the most outgoing (no sarcasm) and that he is a very good musician and a virtuoso whose style actually has an effect on how the record sounds? Mikael notoriously cares more about guitars than the bass and the drums (take a look at their Deliverance&Damnation documentary).

thanks a lot for making time to read our comments, I really appreciate that, everything was just perfect, from cameras to using the right questions, great work over all, but like you said, based on the demands perhaps on the future we see a performing section so that we can also enjoy not just what they have to say in-front of cameras but what they have to show when performing.

Best thing about mikael is he just doesn’t give a fuck. Not at all. He shifted his music from progressive death metal to more of progressive psychedelic rock sound because he simply was bored. How many artists have the balls to do that? It’s not like he went from being a complex technical prog death metal act to a radio friendly metal act with verse chorus catchy melody songwriting. He went weird. His folky psychedelic prog rock is so interesting and different. I’m glad he’s doing what pleases him artistically rather than just chasing anything monetarily or try to just please a group of fans who can’t open their minds to different stuff

The biggest problem with Opeth now is not that they don't play heavy anymore. It's that they don't even know who they are anymore. Damnation is the least heavy album from their discography but ironically it sounds more like Opeth than their last two albums. I'm not saying that their latest albums aren't bad is just that it doesn't sound like Opeth at all. They already had an identity as a band, a unique sound that no band has been able to replicate yet, and they completely dished it out in favor of sounding more like Deep Purple . That's whats underwhelming and frustrating. They used to be my favorite band :/

Thanks for noticing! Actually, all of our series start with a shooting, editing and color concept. For "Into the Machine" we wanted to explore prog music as a machine with a lot of moving parts. For the editing, we decided on going for split screens to illustrate the different moving parts of the machine. We stuck to a lot of slow motion shots to keep the split screen images from being too hectic. However, as this was the first episode of the series, we went to the extreme end of split screen usage. If you follow the rest of the series, you will see how we minimalized this effect to keep it in, but to not distract as much with it. In fact, here is another video where me and the co-creator talk about the concept of the show. Thanks again for watching! 😊 cheers, Randy ua-cam.com/video/Q8NfB8-moKU/v-deo.html

It was the fusion and juxtaposition of Death Metal and melancholic prog-rock that got me into them. Now in essence they are just another prog-rock band.
