Aloha. I grew up with Ka'elepulu Stream (Kailua) as my backyard, and upstream was Ka'elepulu Pond, and these water held vast schools of tilapia, but also it held large Kākū that preyed on these tilapia. When Kakū were around these tilapia would form tight bait balls as defense against the Kākū threat. These video a tad nostalgic for me as I lived half a block from the Ala Wai back in the mid 1960s. Back then the Ala Wai had wooden chair-like platforms along the banks that mullet fishermen built. Also under the mauka side of the McCully street bridge there was a boat rental business built on floating docks. They had electric boats, and rowboats. I remember my older siblings renting a rowboat for a couple hours. Plenty guys used to crab in there too. Back then the water was much cleaner, no more flesh-eating bacteria back then. I was just in Japan for 4 weeks back in the fall of 2023, best vacation ever. Hoʻomaikaʻi on your marriage. I subscribed to your channel when you were a hanabata kid fishing Puako, B.I. Aloha a hui hou.
These are awesome stories mahalo for sharing! The kaku balling up the tilapia is seems the most likely thing I was seeing, their cover in there is pretty minimal and there is a bunch of predators. I have seen pictures of those chairs and the people fishing, and heard about it from my parents! The boat rental sounds so fun, wish that was an option still. I heard it use to be fine water, hope the balls they are throwing in there to clean it does somthing good. What areas you visit over there? Mahalo, it was an amazing experience. Hahaha lets go! Those fishing trips were so much fun with the whole crew.
@@ShakaFishing I got the All-Japan 21 day JR Rail Pass right before the 70% price increase. I milked that pass going from Tokyo to Hokkaido to Aomori, then Kyoto for week, then Shikoku for 4 days, then Hiroshima/Miyajima for 3 days, then back north to Kawasaki. I traveled 3900 miles, and walked 107 miles. I had a visit to local tackle shop planned, but got sick for 2 days, so just slept in the hotel until day to leave via Narita. Wasn't covid, so that's good. I get plenty Japanese lures already, but lures are an addiction, can never get enough. Aloha a hui hou.
I'm sure this is before your time, but I remember about the guy that was walking home to McCully from the boat harbor and fell into the canal He was drunk and had been in a fight so he had superficial injuries. It was a short time later that he died from some kind of massive bodily infection. Be careful with that ala wai water, that stuff is lethal.
😂 Ala Wai Titus 😂💀 I usually see guys on the other side fishing. Times when I passed on Ala Wai I usually see boils in the water but on the street parking side.
I just got back to cali today. We stayed there 6 days and threw the kastmaster everyday and nothing. I though forsure the flash would entice a strike but nada 😢 next trip I guess

One of our favorite fishing channels! You live on Oahu now? Maybe we will see you around. Dadoosh!
Mahalo! Full time, back for the PhD.
Those are tilapia schools. When you drag the school with crank baits sometimes you foul hook and occasionally you'll get one that strikes for real.
Round 2!
😂 Ala Wai Titus 😂💀

Got to watch out for that one lmao.
I have seen people by the golfcourse. I am thinking of trying there.

I remember years back when a huge sewage pipe filled with gas’s and floated to the top of the water haha.
Only the strong survive in the Waikiki hunger games
