I have noticed that almost everyone who plays tabla is great at it but this is the only mridangam player which i have found equally good, this brings me to the conclusion that maybe playing tabla is easier because the instrument is doing most of the work not the player, barring a few exceptional players like ustad zakir hussain. Not trying to take away the talent from the tabla players but i havent seen a bad tabla player as of yet but i see bad mridangam players all the time.
You may be right. As someone who plays both the Tabla and the Mridangam, I could easily say that the Mridangam demands a lot more from the player as it has thicker skin heads and needs precise fingering and strokes to bring out the tone clarity, In that sense you could definitely say that patri satish kumar is a true pioneer and a master and satyajit too.
It's not completely true that tabla is very easy because the tone demands a lot of accurate practice and player is clearly not playing electric version of tabla . Agree that nridangam may be tough but tabla isn't easy either
@@hrm9808he didn't say tabla is easier than mridangam. I'm from Bengal and play tabla. But I can definitely say playing mridanga also known as srikhol is much more difficult. To produce the gamaka on the khol bayan one has to apply double the force than in tabla bayan.
