The husband (mridangist) started with a strong point.....The wife(tabla player) had a more sarcastic reply....When she thought she was winning over, the husband came on with more bang....And so she had to lay her points stronger....Rhythm of life...They argue argue, gel and argue, argue and gel....And then argue in unison, but never out of boundaries (the tala) and arrive at a settlement (arudhi) and hence born the bliss of love and joy (saxophone).....Music and rhythm.....Nature and god...ultimate

In every concert in this carnatic genre, the percussionists have this time called the “thani aavarthanam) where they showcase their virtuosity and creativity within the framework of the “thala” or beat, that the main song is set to. Search for “thani avartanam” if you like this. It is amazing to listen to, and watch.

But they do more than just talk about Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt. Kanyakumari; even the Music Academy recognised her dedication and service to Karnatic Music and honoured her by bestowing her with the much coveted title of Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 2016, the only female violinist to be awarded that title. It is unfortunate that late in her career she abandoned her melody laden Raga playing style, rich in raaga-bhaava, and took to playing a fast, noisy style more suitable for rock and heavy metal style using ear-deafening amplifiers and mics and speakers. I have personal experience of attending two such concerts - one arranged by the venerable CMANA, in NJ, after which I avoided attending her concerts to protect my ears.

Hello Ruben. I have been following the great Shri Kadri Gopalnath for over 20 years from my childhood including plenty of his live shows. While Carnatic music was the first experience I had of music, other forms of music are not bad and I enjoy a lot of other genres of music as well. I appreciate a good rock or jazz song as much as I do Carnatic. Music is meant to bring people together, not to make enemies. Lets not start claiming one is better than another. There is already enough in this world doing a good job of dividing us in 2016. Just a humble request.

Very natural and most suited fashion for the main artist and the instrument.
Mrdangam and other thala vadya artists hardly ever get the time for displaying such explosive imagination. Mainly the "Paani" introduced by Sri GNB has robbed off opportunities for any musical artist to perform to the full. Remove all time-restrictions and see how the so many Carnatic music artists perform ! How could there have been musicians known to have lived without singing Thodi Ragam, having pledged it !!!!!!
Hats off to the Organisers of the programme .... they seem to have let time to the excellent team to perform to their full. Let there be more and more such Organisers ! There is no dearth for artists.

M P Haran Iyer well said sir. These side instruments players should be more time and opportunities. Hari Kumar & the tabla player may be the best. Just media and organisers should focus more on the great talent. People are willing to pay for their concerts. Things are changing for better. Recently been to 2 classical music concerts and both are fully sold out.
