Hopefully this will be helpful to you! Have a great day :) if you wish to test out the other Civilizations feel free to do it. I didn't do that because honestly I focused only on the competitive ones... I highly doubt you'll be around in open field with China xD
John this is a good first start to understanding the question and issue. But you must take the next step. The next question is can the default result caused by base troop stats be changed by the application of equipment, city skin, commander view, or commander skills. Such that you control the situation by creating the weakest troop type of the three. If I am Germany and I put gear on Trajan like windswept special talent for leadership and pair him with Alex - does now my weakest unit change to archers? Such that I must now bring mostly archers. Now isn’t that a Catch-22. I just prepared Trajan for an infantry march but I must load it with archers. How do you equip and pair this commander if you must always load the weakest troop type resulting from the pair? Put windswept gear on which favors only infantry and cavalry then bring archers which are then the weakest troop type and then pair with a commander that doesn’t boost archer defense stats? It’s a paradox is it not?
Very interesting! I wonder if this applies to all leadership primaries. Hmm also curious where secondary commanders fit with this. (Aethelfled does still seem like the best option… but couldn’t any commander who doesn’t require all one troop also be used? ) Thank you John for so many well crafted and well tested guides 🙏
Slightly wounded units seems to be closer to proportional of unit quantity in my battle reports which means the units of each kind are there longer I wonder how much this effects strategy
Oh. Its my honor bro. I am your big fan bro. I have never missed any your videos. Your information always support my stream ! Sometimes i uses your video to convince our viet community !
Great content as always Wick. Without knowing these much details, i used Trajan behind my atilla and they worked like god pair..logic - atilla does enough damage that i dont need the 3rd skill of Trajan much. Sustain of atilla is increased drastically with Trajan behind him.. then people don’t always swarm atilla !!lol thanks for the video.
So does equipment change these results at all? If cavs were the ones losing the most, if you stacked cav gear, does that then force infantry to die more
Very interesting video Wick, thank you very much, I never noticed that. I am Ottoman, and after some tests, I saw that during a duel against a tanky march (for exemple Richard Charles), the inf troops in my Saladin Ethel march don't die quickly like if I duel a Guan or GK or YSG. Then, if facing tanky march, I can go with 190k cava 10k inf and 10k arch, my inf stays safe until the end of the fight.
I don’t know what to say my man… you always come through with some great and eye opening content. Trajan has been my favorite since the day they released his info and I’ve been using him wrong. So much for proving he could be a rally commander. Thanks for your analysis and keep it up! Just thought about something else. I assume to use your equipment optimizer with mixed troops I would just use Cavalry stats as my civilization is Vikings? Need to craft new gear now. Thanks in advance.
For the equipment, of course use the one for your main troop type and pick leadership talents :) just follow the same as for a cavalry march, because mix troops is not supported in the calculator. Thanks for the nice comment, have a good day mate
If your goal is to keep the 2nd part of Trajan's skill active until the bitter end, congrats, you figured it out. I'll be using my special troop type to get the best trades and smash myself home for the last 10% of my march, per usual.
It also can be used in mix troops defense scenario too. If you're using Ottoman, you can have a Zeno YSS key with little of archer/cavalry troops, the rest can fill with infantry. Then you don't have to worry much about losing a 2 type troops buff and losing the key. Cause Zeno Yss gonna survive til very end.
It probably reads the stats of unit types from left to right and if infantry is first on that list it’ll choose it since it’s the first lowest, it makes more sense to go off of lowest stats over who they counter since 2 of the cavalry Civs lose more infantry and they counter archers

Dear Brian, this has been tested by me and other players with and without equipments, city skins etc. and the result apparently was the same. I think that putting leadership talent equipment with for troop type that is at disadvantage can be the right choice. Feel free to conduct some extra testings and contact me on discord if you discover anything new on the argument!
Yes, I do think that using Archers might be very counterproductive. Unless you have an archer secondary commander, but in that case you aren’t using Trajan fully according to the current meta
Great Stuff! like always... Can you also test this thing for city garrison.. does a particular troop types dies 1st in a city garrison too.. will that make some particular garrison commander best for certain civilization.. like if Infantry is the unit that dies 1st for German and Ottoman.. Zeno / Constantine are best primary garrison commander for them as they give health for inf.. making them last longer.. (considering all troops are proportional in city) And for.. rome or france.. Jadwiga performs better as garrison primary commander.. not considering mixed troop structure garrison here as that would be too complex and multiple troops from different civ. would be joining.
My conclusion a while back was that it depends on stats.. You are only looking at base stats hence it's inconclusive for some..Look at overall stats (after all the buffs) it will make more sense
How about the equipments related? For example, as you said Rome supposed to set more cavalry. Then do I need to use cavalry equipments for TRAJAN? Then this will make cavalry more strength and effect unit lost data. Appreciate if you could carry out further test with different equipments
I have to miss something on the principle. If a particular unit gets smashed faster than the other two why compensate by putting more of this unit, since it defends itself less well. Because of the talent tree? The difference would be so important if before the end of the battle he has only 2 types of unit instead of three?
only an issue if you have equal amount of troops . if you have more of any one of the troop types, regardless of your civ, battles will wound more of that troop type . I do 80/10/10 split with my infantry because i am viking civ and I haven't had a fight where I went down to only 2 or 1 troops. Even when I go red.
Hello Wick. I have a querry about the video: I am germany in the game, so, when i am defending my city (inside i have mix troops included siege), according to the information of your video, i can anticipate lost many infantery troops (or the rules of the video only work in open fields)?, so i need put a garrison infantery comander whit good equipment to give me more heal and defenses on my infantery troops? Thanks for the work and videos. You have a very fine channel here.
So does this change affect canyon? Should I do 80% cav 10% everything else? I have Trajan primary and Constantine secondary with rome Civ. And what equipment would you recommend on that pairing on canyon? So by that do you think the Weapon equipment “Heart of the Saint” will be a good choice? Need your guidance
Wick, again thanks for your testing videos. It helps beginners like me. If you can, would you please share the battle reports of your tests, esp ratio of severely wounded vs slightly wounded?? As a followup question to this video I am wondering what trajan equipment to focus on i.e. focus on the troop type that is reduced the most (the red) or the one in middle (yellow). In other words, is the severely wounded ratio equal across troop types or is it skewed towards the type that is reduced the most??
So to clarify, as an RoK player that has mainly infantry health and defence legendary equipment on my 5555 Trajan, you're suggesting I should use Ottoman civilisation and using my Infantry troops than Cavalry and Archers?
i notice the same problem whit aetelfleda several months ago if you put 1k cav 1k archer 198k inf you lose the skill to hit more whit mixed troops i solved puting 24k 24k and the rest of troops and never lose the skill

Is it not possible to test what point the march will run out of its targeted troop? Also is it possible that that type won’t actually run out but will just get very low?
It all depends on the equipment, the marches attacking you and other factors. The amounts I wrote down are generically good but of course if you have specific needs you should try and balance it on your own
So if I’m infantry main with infantry gear on Rome/Viking civilization I should have cav gear on my Trajan & have more cav over more infantry with good infantry gear?
Yes you should prefer that. Consider equipping also specific troop type equipment to make that particular unit stronger (with leadership special talent if possible)
I have noticed some time ago that when my mixed march got hit by an aoe skill i only lost one troop type (inf first as germany) and thought it was a bug. maybe the aoe damage with your commanders is causing that problem as well or skill damage in general is bugged!? it makes no sense to me to have it skewed this much towards one troop type.
Nope, tested with different commanders as you can see from the video. I don’t know what is it about, but I am making a deductive guide here basing on how the game reacts
@@WickGaming i'm not questioning your methods or findings, just wanted to add that i noticed the thing where i would lose literally only one troop type when hit by an enemies ysg or guan aoe. I think there is something different with how skill damage is applied, because I haven't noticed anything strange with normal damage in short fights. would be interesting to test with mixed versus a march that does no skill damage, but it wouldn't change the fact which troops to use most.
@@WickGaming I have 2 cavs and 2 archer marches, trajan and ethelfield sound fine but m My infantry buffs are quite low in crystal tech and the city skin. 🥲
What ends up happening to the severely wounded then though? If we prioritise the troop type we lose the most of and use mostly those then wouldn't that end up meaning reports would be worse in terms of severely wounded as a larger percentage of the march gets killed faster than usual? Or does it not make a difference? Edit: read another comment and the response regarding it becoming weaker and not losing the 3% buff. But the bonus is on damage dealt. But usually when you bring a Trajan it isnt a 1v1. So while your Trajan is out there, wouldn't he just end up taking more damage than it is worth? How does that end up playing out?
I think it does not make a difference. Maybe slightly, but compared to the benefit of having Trajan’s benefits longer, it’s going to give a good return. Anyway, yours is a good point but this is very very difficult to test in the real game
@@WickGaming Yes, it truly is. Quite a shame that test servers arent available to the public. (probably for monetary purposes of forcing to spend and invest) And, while having a game like RoK being complex in nature is fun, it can be quite a pain in the butt when trying to test things and try to be as accurate to real world scenarios as possible. Especially with all the new introductions of kvk tech, equipment, as well as player behaviour. Thanks for the testing and the reply. Very much appreciated.
So basically you should use a lot more of the troop type that your civilization counters. Very informative, I just got Trajan and I would have used him the wrong way. The good news is, most players will not watch these types of videos, giving the rest of us an advantage! 😝
Does this true for Aethelfled as primary? she also has mixed troops buffs similar to Trajan. If thats true then the title must be for Trajan and/or Aethel problem!

Well yes, even if the -10% health debuff will be tough to handle if you use more than one infantry march
@@WickGaming I have 2 cavs and 2 archer marches, trajan and ethelfield sound fine but m
My infantry buffs are quite low in crystal tech and the city skin.
So Wick , Am france and I will have to use 80% Cavs, Should I also have to switch my gears mostly on Cav specific ?
I would suggest so. Make your own testings and see which works better for you!
@@WickGaming okay thanks Bro.
Gear for Trajan pls Wick
So basically you should use a lot more of the troop type that your civilization counters. Very informative, I just got Trajan and I would have used him the wrong way. The good news is, most players will not watch these types of videos, giving the rest of us an advantage! 😝
Ok if I understand , i use Viking so I use more cav for the mix but I this situation what type of équipement I will use ?
Cav equipment with leadership talents
Yeah tkx for your job and your explications
But if I want play with harald , what types of troop I use ? Only infant ?
@@WickGaming and with harald what type I can use
@@WickGaming and with harald it’s necessary to use the mix of troops ?
Very insightful video. I find it quite disappointing from Lilith, mathematically speaking this is an error
Is it the same for Ætheflad also?
Yes
Does this true for Aethelfled as primary? she also has mixed troops buffs similar to Trajan. If thats true then the title must be for Trajan and/or Aethel problem!
It’s for any mix troops leadership commander!
This should be hackable into using your civilization unit mostly, if other two are T5 = higher base stats
