    Hi!I use papago translator really often, and if I'm not wrong there is a button to change between polite and impolite speech when translating to Korean actually. It's pretty useful

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  3 роки тому +65

      The button doesn't really work like it should. It still often translates things impolitely even if you select the "Honorific" button.

      @@GoBillyKorean yeah that's true I also use papago app and I use it to speak and to clear my pronounciation but sometimes it says something same sounding word but not the word I want to know and I use to think that my pronounciation is wrong and even if I try 10 times it really doesn't say the word I wanna know

    Papago is brilliant for learning Korean. I use it to practice my pronunciation and to compare how well it compares to the book translation. There are options to play it back multiple times and it enables me to examine my mistakes forensically so that I can practice until I get them right.

      It’s taking dictation in its home language (Korean) not translating from one language to another, so it won’t usually be wrong. If it is wrong then it is more than likely because I have made a mistake in my pronunciation and that is the reason why I am using it!

      for people who don't know any korean, that is true. however, my korean is lower-level, but i do know enough korean and about korean grammar that i can tell when the translation is wrong. i'm also familiar with common translation errors so i make sure that i phrase my english in way that'll translate better (ex: textbook english)

    papago is really good only when you already have a good grasp of korean, at least, so that you are able to identify if they gave you the right translation or not
    cuz with the korean structures and grammars, it will often translate a literal word in english, into not a literal translation of that word to korean, so it adds 이다 after simple nouns, for example, even if you didn't type any verbs in english
    i use it a lot but i always write the specific word i want to know into a sentence, cuz that kind of assures me that they will go with the specific approach that i wanted, i think that's the best possible way to use it when studying, in terms of effectiveness

    I use (with caution) Papago and I prefer it over Google translate but I think it’s very important to know the basics of Korean first. I use it to find out the Korean vocabulary I don’t know yet and also to help with pronunciation. I have had some hilarious mistakes too. One drawback is it often has only v.casual or honorific options when the ‘casual’ polite form would be best.

    I use Papago to translate from Korean to English a lot! I like how (in the web version at least) it gives a breakdown of the different words in the sentence. I really only use it the other way (Eng-Kor) when I want to check that a sentence I've written is correct (before sending it to my Korean friend 😂)

    "Worked better than I thought" has been my experience with Papago, too. Back when I lived in Mexico, I had a flip phone, so these translator apps flipping amaze me. It'd be interesting how you would program a Korean-to-English translator, considering what you and Kenny experienced here. I am grateful for new intro-level Billy content. That's my jam! My goal is to be an ESL teachers who learned as much Korean as possible beforehand. Have a convo, order some food. Mmmm food.

    안녕하세요 Billy! I love your channel. I just wanted to recommend something as a videographer. The saturation in this video is a bit hard on the eyes. Perhaps in editing you could desaturate a bit? Or actually in the GoPro settings you could set your picture profile to flat that way the colors are not as harsh. Just a suggestion. Me and my 5yr old enjoy your videos☺️

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  3 роки тому +9

      I'd love more advice from actual videographers. In this case, the actual restaurant's walls and tables are all yellow, and I had the white balance set to 5600 during filming with my 4:2:0 camera (G85). There wasn't much correcting I could do after it was recorded this way. Next time I'll set the white balance correctly before recording. Or even better, I'd like to upgrade to a camera that can shoot RAW someday, if the GH6 can do that :)

    • @Zommi
      @Zommi 3 роки тому

      @@GoBillyKorean RAW would be the preferable option to play with colors in post, though much more heavy on the processing for the PC... but doesnt the G85 have a raw/flat-like picture profile that you can use to color correct/grade? because at least, seeing its release date, it's right there with other DSLR cameras that do have a PP like that
      And also, WB doesnt have much to do with color saturation itself but with how colors are represented as in regards to what the camera think is actual white [hence the more blue-ish/orange-ish colors]. and what colors the picture is tinted with [green/purple]

    I am a big fan of Papago translator app and I have a tip to avoid unnatural translations. To avoid mistakes or misunderstandings, I double translate what I want to say in Korean into another language. For example, I understand Malay and a bit of Indonesian, so I will translate the Korean sentence that Papago gave into Malay or Indonesian, just to make sure the context is the same. Of course this works for those who are at least bilingual. So if you known English and Mandarin, translate the Korean sentence back into these languages on Papago. It helps a lot. If you're still not sure - tell the person that you used Papago translator to communicate with them. They will understand hahaha.

    I use papago when I don't know a Korean word in public. It helps out alot because you can snap a picture of the words and it translates it. Helped out a ton when I was working in Korea. Like others said it's helped with vocabulary if I forget. The honorific translations need work though.

    Surely - if an obvious "furrinor" is clutching in the their sweaty paw a cellphone which spouts the occassional non-honorific sentance, there is no need to feel insulted ~ at *least* the visitor is making an effort to communicate! If I was swatted for every mispronounced Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Zulu sentance personally spoken, I'd never open my mouth or travel freely! I go with giving a *gold star⭐for effort* to anyone TRYING to communicate in a language which is not their native tongue ~ Papago gets my thumbs up!😁

      Most Koreans would be understanding as well, but depending on the conversation and the situation it could still come across as rude. But for basic things like asking directions to a stranger or when you really need help, I can't imagine someone getting upset.
