  • Tunisia is definitely one of the more underrated countries that I have visited. Come along with me as I explore the hidden gems of this beautiful country. These include the city that inspired Santorini's design, ancient Roman ruins, the ancient city of Carthage and much more.

Im from the UK and live in Tunisia. You said that Tunisia is a country you have to be careful in and keep your guard up. This is not true for the most part, especially in the capital of Tunis. It is a very safe city. Usually those guys who take you to the rooftop just want to impress you so you will then buy something from their shop.
It is true about scam taxis at the airport. You just need to make sure you take an official taxi, not the random men offering tourists a lift. They are not dangerous, theyll just overcharge.
Lastly, you were in the center of the city in the market area, of course you'll get those guys trying to make money off tourists. In the normal suburb areas, you dont get that at all. I live in the suburbs of Tunis and never have any problem with anyone. They are friendly, helpful and honest.
To add, the revolution started in Sidi Bouzid, not Tunis. Also, the square is not blocked off here because the public are welcome to enjoy it, but it's prohibited to film as its a government building.

Thank you for your insight. From my perspective, when I man tries to take me into a dark back room and I am followed by another younger man suddenly, I am going to be suspicious. It doesn't matter what country I am in.

Great content. Just small remark, Carthage fought and lost three punic wars against Rome, not two. As a Tunisian, I would advise you not to follow literally anyone who approaches in the Medina. Let me assure you however that there were no concerns for your safety, they probably wanted you to buy some items. To experience the Medina, it is better to just get lost in it. It has a lot to offer: delicious food, cultural cafés, and unique doors. If you get lost, it is best to ask young people to show you the way. Most of the youth speak good english, and they would help you out. Welcome to Tunisia.
Final remark: the soldiers told you off, because you were facing the Ministry of Defense, and you were filming. It is prohibited to take pictures / videos of governmental buildings, especially the Ministry of Defense.

Great Video! Unfortunately, the number of tourists hasn't always been this low. Since 2011, the country has experienced several terrorist attacks and remains politically unstable, which has affected its popularity as a destination.

It definitely did not feel that way when he was pushing me into a dark room in the back of the shop, but good to know I was not in any real danger.
